Luxury hand bags sales in Korea are the highest in the world. They starve 6 month just to buy a Gucci hand bag. It means lot to them. Koreans consider iPhone as luxury brand since it’s expensive in Korea. Thats why they are crazy over it. Its not how good they are. Its the symbol.

Korea, Japan and China are the largest consumers for the biggest luxury brands in the world. It shows how much the society puts emphasis on brand name rather than functional value.
So is it a surprise that young people want to own the most popular brand name phone rather than the domestic one?

This is the main problem with Korea and its culture.
EVERYBODY has to wear the same, eat, drink the same, breath the same air, EVERYBODY has to have that same hair style, the clothes, shoes, I mean, they ALL look alike!! You watch them walk on one of them streets in Seoul, EVERYBODY looks the same. They just LIVE for others and lack individualism for the better and most part of their lives growing up. As I'm Korean, in my opinion, trends and reputation are quite important in Korea. They prescribe the standard of social success (for example: fashion, job, residence, looks, etc.). It's changed a lot compared to the past, but it's still a group-oriented and conservative culture (many Koreans deny multiculturalism). Put simply, they are overly aware of other people's eyes. So this is the reason why young Koreans are likely to use iPhones.

Therefore, they tend to overindulge, adorning themselves with many luxury items and posting only the best parts of their lives on social media platforms like Instagram, striving for validation from others. However, if they truly had great wealth, they wouldn't feel the need to act this way, as having self-assurance and confidence in what they possess means there is no need to flaunt it.

SK is very materialistic, and alot of Apples marketing is around being a status symbol, that's why they can afford to not innovate and people will still waste their money on the new shiny one each year. Luxury isn't really a big factor, Samsung in S.Korea sells their phones with no actual promotions happening since theres no competitor for them in the Android market. If you want to buy a Galaxy in Korea you have to buy it with full price. There's no Pixel, Huawei, Sony, One-plus, etc in the Korean smartphone market. Why'd you buy a Samsung phone with a full price that'll probably have a discount in other countries when you can buy an iPhone that has the same price for nearly every other country? Ofcourse the android sheep will say we simply buy iPhones to show off, but look at your own android phones lol. They’re just as expensive as iPhones and yet they perform like shyit. Abhishek you're just delusional, you're stance may be correct like before 6-8 years but now android phones too have well polished software experience. It's very clear that you just blindly support Apple & blame android to be buggy without experiencing it's features. I love to customize a lot during early years of my Android usage but now I just use 1 or 2 customized features but that doesn't mean I need an iPhone. I might not need that feature but someone else will need those features. It's better to have something than nothing right?😃I like iPhone for their simplicity and iOS UI/UX but iPhones for the last 5 years suffers serious quality issues which hinders the longevity of usage. I won't invest in anything that's expensive but not lasting long.

More like a status symbol to some like a Prada, Channel or Gucci bag. It's not just Koreans prefer Apple over Samsung in terms of phones or tablets it's also very similar to how some people prefers to drive an Audi or a BMW or a Porsche rather than a Kia or a Hyundai eventhough they have both good qualities. That's not to day that Apple is superior over Samsung or the other way. It's just a matter of preference over the other.

My reason for switching to Iphone was the quality hardware and software. Also with android devices before you upgrade there a waay too many devices out there. Meaning in one way or another you will be disappointed in a feature on your android. Apple has limited device options, all of the options are solid devices. Plus the software and hardware feels a bit more safer than android’s.

if u r not in a country with a huger Apple market share (>40%), noone will use iMessage, facetime and airdrop ( i would say only japan,USA,canada and may be korea now would use those apps) ....killing the specificities of Iphones (but if u have an Apple set up workstation/tablet/buds/phone or relatives with them eventually)

Rise in popularity also has to do with South Korea's taste for luxury goods. What Apple has done with the iPhone is that it transcends functionality and has become a luxury product. It's not that the iPhone is objectively better in every category, though it does excel in a lot of areas that customers love like the ecosystem, it has been elevated above the price sensitive market into the luxury market where people are willing to pay for the brand. Which leaves other brands like Samsung fight for the bottom and Apple getting more affluent customers, those are the principles of a luxury brand.

I used to be an Android user and Samsung was my main go-to. The last Samsung I had was Samsung S20+, which developed a green line down its screen. Then our Samsung TV developed lines as well, not too long after that. I was given dismissive answers from Samsung Service Center and got really incensed. It costs nearly as much as a new phone to fix the screen, and my warranty had just expired one month before it developed the line. Ever since then, I swear NEVER to buy another Samsung. I switched to Apple for my phone, got an iPad and love the connectivity and the ecosystem they have going on. My TV is now Xiaomi. It's miles better than Samsung and so far there's no problem with both the phone and TV. Apple is just a better made product compared to Samsung. I'm sure they have their duds too and Apple's battery does deteriorate quite fast but that's also the case with all gadgets with batteries. So for me personally, it's not the trend and whatnot, but the entire experience of using Apple products. You just know that it works at the end of the day, and works well.

The thing is Samsung became a crappy company. They kept taking features away that made me but their
phones like SD card and some features in settings. Whats the point of buying an Android if its so restrictive??
At least with iPhone they build their own OS and is way more stable and reliable.
