So maligned yet people forget how groundbreaking it was in-period. I feel like these transmissions will eventually come back in vogue due to their place in automotive history. It doesn't hurt that this one happens to be one of the best sounding V8's in history.

I love the 355. I was always a little afraid of potential service costs. It's also been pricey for a while now. I would have wanted the gated shifter though. About 6 years ago I looked seriously at a 360 with F1 transmission. It was fairly priced and I thought the maintenance costs might be better. Someone got it before I got around to making an offer. Just a couple years later even the 360 had appreciated in value a lot. I was visiting the boutique car dealer that had sold the 360 and told them I missed an opportunity. Ironically another fellow also in the dealership spoke up and told me that he was the one that bought that car. I complemented him on buying a very nice car at a very good price.
Great episode. Indeed the F1 gearbox is a little misunderstood/unfairly viewed. Sure, a gated manual offers an amazing experience, but the F1 is a lot of fun in its own right. Also, I must say, Donald does really well solo. I love and respect Jay Leno, but I find Donald on his own offers a little more cohesive content in these ride along videos. Anyway, keep 'em coming!
I'm a Porsche man but had to buy a couple of 355's (tuned by Novitec) because they are so pure and easy to live with compared to other Ferrari prima donnas of the period.

This generation f1 does well when u lift off/drive it more like a manual. Of course it was the first one and today’s options are so much better. I have a 355 manual but I wouldn’t kick a naked f1 out of bed if it was next to me.

Stock exhaust will do that. They're typically equipped with some crazy system, which we can't fault the owners for running because these engines sound great when opened up. Such a recently over rated car. Ownership soon wears off. Much better cars follow 360 430 and only in manual.
