This album is underrated. Dave took all the best parts of his old albums and made such a great album. From thrashy riffs, solos, harmonies, catchy choruses, and CHRIS POLAND.

I think of this album as kind of a Peace Sells part 2. You got the cover art as kind of a continuation as Peace Sells, plus Chris Poland. I know folk are gonna say no! Your nuts! But it has the same feel- prog elements and riff changes just like Peace Sells. Like a 2000 version on Peace Sells
while Dave was creating this masterpiece, Lars was playing a trash can in St. Anger

Vinnie Colaiuta is a monster behind the kit. I was a little shocked to see him on this release.
This is an incredibly underrated album. A mixture of thrash and hard rock - with catchy and well-written songs on the hard rock side. I thought it was "good" when it came out, and I think it's even better now.
Probably Megadeth's 3rd, 4th, or 5th best album (high praise in my book) depending on how I'm feeling on the day.

Criminally underrated album. Being a Megadeth fan since 1988 and lived the old school thrash metal era during my teen years, this 2004 album qualifies perfectly among Megadeth’s top 5. Poland and Colaiuta are true masters on their instruments and Mustaine still has his 90’s grasp voice. Great metal album indeed !
It's the last great Megadeth record that did anything original.

This album was planned to be Dave Mustaine solo album but he has contract for one more album with Megadeth name so he forced to do it this way...thank Destiny for this...

I still remember the concert of megadeth in the summer of 2005 in Athens, I was 22 years old then and it was a very nice experience that I saw up close my DAVE MUSTAINE.

First time listening to this album and I love it. I stopped listening to megadeth around 2000 because I was doing a lot of work in EDM industry. Getting back into all my old bands. So listening to this and my dad who is 70 walks in and say you listening to megadeth, he recognised Daves voice even tho he does not listen to metal. Still got a lot of catching up to do but this is a well constructed album.
2009 endgame is better. And Dystopia too.
Oh, you're not the only one! I loved Metallica and Anthrax through the 80s, but for some reason Megadeth escaped me. I'm just finally getting into them now, and as much as I'm sorry for what I missed out on all these years, it's wonderful to find new (to me) refreshing metal to discover in a time when there's so little new music worth listening to. What astounds me is that Megadeth mostly stayed true to themselves even after grunge/alternative took over the main stream, through the 90s! I was not a fan of Metallica's mellowing out with the black album at the time, and kind of checked out of the scene at the time, figuring all the rest would follow the trend...I really did not have the heart to see that happen.

@@sashizakura9124 My friend base in the 90's was not, and still is not, into Megadeth so they unfortunately eluded me until about 2010 when I bought a tape of Youthanasia. I caught up with most of their albums by 2016. The System has Failed is definitely in my top 5.

I had loved Megadeth growing up but had forgotten about them when I went to college and then out of nowhere in 2004 they drop this masterpiece. This was in my cd player for months.
The album that introduce me to megadeth. After listening to it, I've listen to all their albums, and I have no regret! One of the best metal band. I love Rust in peace, Countdown, Peace sells, and even their more pop album ( except Super Collider), but this one stay my favorite, the lyrics are deep ans various, the riffs and solos are well done, thanks to the great Chris Poland, and Coalita is incredible here, especially with his double bass! It has taken time, but this albulm became one of my all time favorite! Thanks for the upload

Yeah Super Collider was just weak. I even understand the albums where they went softer and more towards rock than metal, the musicmanship was still creative and on a high level despite the softer tone, but Super Collider and even United Abomonations were just really sub par albums to me. It's like they were playing, but their hearts weren't in it. "Let's just follow the megadeth formulae so we can get paid" is how I feel everytime I listen to these 2 albums.
Blackmail the Universe Tour was about as amazing at it got! Saw them in Melbourne 2005 and it was the first time they played My Last Words in more than a decade! Was an amazing night!

this and thirteen have been my most favorite albums in the after youthanasia era,with dystopia,united,world needs a hero,coming close and endgame and cryptic not bad at all with many songs that still make my head bang. their worst must be super collider with risk productionwise only.
And by saying "worst", I don't mean " st.anger-lulu worst",but instead some average stuff.til now there is no bad all the way megadeth album..
@@EkremJevric667 I agree, no such thing as a truly bad megadeth album. Some are more generic, slow, or lighter than others, but they all have something to offer. (and i personally think that Super Collider has more worth than The World Needs a Hero but shhhhhhhhhh)
most forget this album came out after the period of dave recovering from his nerve injury. it was intended to be a solo album, but the record company insisted it be labeled megadeth. it sounds so different from evey other album in the best ways.
As unique a sound and feel as any metal album ever
If I'm not mistaken this was supposed to be Daves soloalbum when he recovered after the bloodflow to his arm was cut due to him falling asleep in a bad position.
This is the most under-rated Megadeth album.

This whole album is incredible. The first 7 songs are incredible, and when you thing the album is mellowing down those eerie effects and the sick instrumental that kick in on the later half of "My Kingdom" are like machine gun fire!

Despite mixed thoughts on Tears... I like it, has an Iron Maiden quality to it, not a bad thing.
The solo in it is one of Poland's best!
Also the second part where the song picks up in anger has a fucking killer riff. I think it's one of Dave's best.

I honestly don’t get how this album isn’t more loved by fans. The Scorpion, Something I’m Not, Back In The Day, Blackmail The Universe, Truth Be Told, Tears In A Vial, this whole album is banger after banger with very little filler aside from I Know Jack and Shadow Of Deth.

Is the president of Gibson guitars finally and that's amazing.
I can listen to this on a regular basis. From first track to last, amazing. This album kicked off a really good run of albums. After this came UA, Endgame, and Thirteen. I like Thirteen a lot, but I know sone don't. Super Collider has a lot of good tracks, though I know it's seen as a disappointment by some. But overall, this album jump started the second or third wave of their output, however you look at it.
