I love how many future superheroes were in this movie. Superman, Captain America, Captain Marvel. Even Huntress.
I legit just realised that Scott's ex was played by Brie Larson 😂😂.
And don't forget Aubrey Plaza from Legion.
Well technically, Brandon Routh played Superman in Superman Returns in 2006, *before* this movie. But he would later play Ray Palmer/The Atom in the various Arrowverse shows and even reprised his role as Superman on their Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover.
Also The X Men days of future's past's Quicksilver as Young Neil.
The Two Vegan police had a superhero member too. The Punisher from the first Punisher movie was the blonder of the two. The other Vegan police dude was in The Boondock Saints 2.
This is my happy place movie, the one I watch when I need to feel better.
Its a fun time for sure!
Scott Pilgrim is an asshole with many flaws. It would make sense that Nega Scott is a nice guy as Nega Scott is the opposite. The plot/expectation subversion is top notch in this movie. :-D
Agreed, he was an interesting main protagonist to follow considering he had many flaws. I love how he becomes friends with Nega Scott, but you could argue that Scott transforms into a better person by the end of it.
I do like that twist, but I do think I prefer the comic version of him.
The version of him that keeps popping up in quick shots while Scott is feeling down, staring at him and smiling, a dark reflection of him.
All building up to the final confrontation when Scott is at his lowest point and it's revealed that Nega Scott is really all of the negative traits of Scott that he'd been trying to convince himself he didn't have. And it's only by acknowledging his own flaws that he stops Nega Scott, fusing with him and regaining his memories of how shitty he'd been in past relationships (realizing that Envy wasn't as much of a bitch in the past as he thought, remembering that he never properly broke up with Kim and just sort of abandoned her, etc.)
Still, I'm fine with these two diverging and being their own things with their own strengths. Both are great.
Scott is a zero. Negative zero equals zero. That is why they get along.
@@TomSketchit No.
Lucas Lee is a reference to the actor Jason Lee who started his career as a pro skateboarder
Film Fact: There is an alternate ending where Scott ended up with Knives instead and Ramona basically moved on to start her own path.
Oooh, I definitely prefer the films actual ending because I feel that knives deserves better tbh aha
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 Agreed she does.
@@MontgomeryWenis my guy, Scott still ends up with Ramona in the comics
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 ¿?
This is one of my favorite movies. Michael Cera and Mae Whitman (ex #4) had roles on the show “Arrested Development”, available on Netflix
The scene where Ann breaks up with George Michael is so funny lol
@@Crevture72 her?
I remember watching this in the theater with friends and there was nobody there. We all had that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (which we all showed up to as well) feeling... but it turned out to be an awesome movie! Too bad it was poorly marketed.
Scott Pilgrim is not a manga. The author, Brian Lee O'Malley is Canadian.
It was a comic in conjunction with the movie and video game.
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 it was a song by the Halifax band Plumtree. The song inspired the comic. The comic inspired the movie.
I honestly don't think you can shove this movie into any one genre. It's just a whole bunch of super creative and fun things to me, with a solid message behind it.
I agree, this movie is a classic example of not having to fit in a certain genre, instead just going all over the place which works for me
A fave movie that gets me through heartbreak crushes and 500 Days of Summer
Pretty awesome having different superheroes in one movie:
Brandon Routh - Superman; Captain Atom
Brie Larson - Captain Marvel
Thomas Jane - Punisher
Chris Evans - Human Torch; Captain America
Aubrey Plaza - Lenny Busker from Legion (not exactly a superhero, but still in a Marvel-based series).
I don’t care if Aubrey Plaza plays a lead superhero since she is so awesome in real life.
Saw this in cinema when came out, and instanly fell in love as director my fav from three corneto trilogy guy! love reactions! relate to these characters esp scott to me
The comedy in this is very similar to the comedy in the cornetto films, thanks dude!
I have seen this movie many times. It's one of my favorites.
Each of the exes have a number associated with them. 1-7, which appear in their respective scenes (it's that ONE guy, TWO seconds to kick you ass, 3 days until the cleaning lady comes, etc. The twins get 11, 5+6).
That being said, Ramona is a 10. Scott & Neill are zeroes. This explains why Scott and Nega Scott got along. Negative zero is still just zero.
I love how MacCauley Culkin's (Home Alone Star) little brother played Scott Pilgrim's roommate Wallace aka his irl name Keiran Culkin
He is also * great * in Succession.
There actually is a great Scott Pilgrim videogame out there as well. It was actually just rereleased like a month ago. And I love this movie. One of my absolute favorites.
I would definitely play that game, that 3rd act would be great in a video game.
The game is basically a remake of River City Ransom but it's still fun.
One thing that I don't think I've seen anybody talk about is how Ramonas actions in the fights evolve. In the first two fights, she bails at the first chance, second time without Scott even. By the third fight, she doesn't run, but she doesn't actively participate either, she stands on the sidelines. But by the fourth fight she actively wants to face her past and actively engages in the fight. It doesn't work, because League rules mean only Scott can defeat her exes, so she starts running from her past again, but also her present (Scott) as well. Ramona can't face her past without Scott. There's also some kind of reverse version of this regarding Scotts suppression of his past and Ramona (and Knives), but I need to rewatch it a couple more times to fully work that out.
Director Edgar Wright told Michael Cera to draw whatever he wanted and that was he came up with
I can't believe I never recognized Thomas Jane! Good catch!
By the way, it wasn't just a great movie, it was an amazing adaptation.
Michael Cera is probably best known for the TV show Arrested Development.
No, Michael Cera is best known for Superbad.
*"He'd make a really good action hero."* Uh, you mean like Captain America?
Also, Stephen Stills and Young Neil are references to the American band *Crosby, Stills, and Nash* which for a brief time went by *Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young* when the iconic Neil Young joined them.
No. Like Johnny Storm. Duh.
Johnny Storm lmao, I still have a soft spot for the first Fantastic Four aha
I meant guys like Stallone and Schwarzenegger, not superheroes but its similar so I know what you mean
...have you seen Speed Racer? How ‘bout Spy Kids.
It’s cool to see you knowing the video game stuff.
Anime does this all the time. Fun that its an adaptation of a manga that tributes Japanese Game Titles.
I've seen spy kidz but not speed racer, the style of this definitely gives that impression that its based on a manga. A very interesting experience aha
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 Those two films have a similar vibe .... Speedy Racer might as well have Health Bars in the top corner. Lots of fun. Live Action like the ‘67 Batman series.
Speed Racer would be a great one to react to.
Beck actually wrote the songs for this one. Pretty cool.
Definitely a favorite!!
You mentioned the way Chris Evans was talking sounded like Jason Statham. They've done at least a couple of movies together. Cellular, a fairly enjoyable thriller; and London, an okay and interesting romantic drama from what I remember, but I wouldn't mind seeing it again to re-assess.
I can't believe people are saying Michael Cera is best known for Arrested Development. No, he is best known for Superbad lol.
Directed by Edgar Wright starring Michael Cera as a Canadian who falls in love with an American to the point of having to fend off her "seven evil ex's" to win her heart. This movie plays like a video game/manga in which people bleed coins in stead of blood. Also featuring Chris Evans, Luke Makulky, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Schwartzman
It's not a manga, it's a Canadian comic book.
Edgar Wright didn't know how to end this movie so he asked the author how he did so Edgar did that
You should check out the alternate/original ending
Oooh, does he stay with Knives instead?
I'm still curious about that liver disaster tea...
There is a beat them up game based on the books.
Heeeeeelllll yeaaaaaaahhhhh
Best movie ever!
this was great. You should react to The royal tenenbaumes
It sounds good, it has a great cast when I was looking it up on google.
The Guy With The Microphone watch
1. Scream
2. I Know What You Did Last Summer
3. Urban Legend
You'll enjoy those movies
Its funny that you mentioned scream, because I'm gonna rewatch them all every Thursday. In preparation for scream 5 which is coming out...eventually
What a great movie, so we'll directed! Based on an american manga.
You can definitely tell, the style lends itself to that.
You mean...a Graphic novel? Cause Manga are by definition Japanese.
“You have to be a certain individual to be like him in real life” ...uh... thank you?
I don't even know what that means and I said it lmao aha
It's curious that the 2 coolest ex-boyfriends are Captain America and Superman.
14:29 YOU FOOL! THAT’S CHRIS EVANS
i AM SO SAD, SO VERY VERY SAD
22:57 Did you miss the earlier joke about "the L word"?
I know I didn't.
Im telling you right now should probably mute the part with chirs evans and the univeral theme cause there’s a big chance it’ll get copyright claimed cause of that.
I've done caring about copyright at this point mate aha. As long as its not blocked, its all good
I loved this movie when I was around 15.
Nowadays....not so much.
How come you don't like it as much as before?
Damn really ready for v for vandetta. Film is a masterpiece
Yup, Its up now :)
If I would rather have an untainted Asian schoolgirl over a candy haired snobby chick with 7 exes, does that make me a bad person? LMFAO!
Narrated by Bill Hader
Gotta love Bill Hader
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 was also great as Flynn Lockwood 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' with Anna Ferris
Spoiler alert, this was a video game first
There was a joke at the time that Jesse Eisenberg was the male version of Michael Cera.
All of the drummers are female
No way I watched this a couple days ago. Found it to be an absolute cringefest ngl 😬
There is some cringy moments but I think it was done on purpose aha
Am I the only one who didn’t enjoy this movie?
Yes
Yep.
This and Baby Driver is one of Edgar Wrights better movies outside of the Cornetto Trilogy
@@jamesthomson5516 I love baby driver but not this movie
Yes
