- The side scrolling continuation of the Metroid franchise is finally here! special edition includes the game, steel book, art cards, and an art book. The Amiibo of Samus and E.M.M.I. released the same day as Dread on October 8th, 2021.

Frustratingly, other regions got both cases in the Special Editions.
Yes in Australia we got the case and steel book in the special editions.
I gues the price to pay in some regions was the artbook Shell, mine is hard shell in Mexico but i've seen book with soft shell I other unboxings but with both cases
I ordered mine from Amazon Japan and I have both cases. I was delivered today!!

Just got mine this morning as a gift, absolutely shocked how big it is! Most special editions I’ve bought lately have been small. Mine came with the original box and black cardboard inserts (UK)
Yes the uk version is way better and you get both case's
Unfortunately I could only afford the standard edition, but wow does this ever look premium. Lets hope Dread sells well so we can get more Metroid!
i got the special edition myself, i did not expect the book to be so gigantic, the pictures made everything look much smaller than it actually is

The EU version comes with the case and steelbook. No idea why NoA doesn’t include the case
This game is so fun, I've beaten it 3 times already. It's the only metroid game I've ever finished, and I'm glad I did
I got the European version of the Special Edition and it has both the steelbook and the regular case.
The book is just so great!

Double dip in my case, being the only region without the actual case, I ending purchasing one Special and one regular, keeping the regular sealed and playing the one in the steelbook case...just a fantastic game and way to support the franchise and developers

The Fusion Suit goes so HAAAAAAAAAAAAARD Samus looks mad and as badass as EVER. I plan to get the physical game and the Amiibo separately the detail on the figures looks siiiiiiiiiiick and her pose is so dynamic and E.M.M.I dare i say fills me with DREAD!
Nintendo don't do this much and it sucks but this special edition for 80 dollars is how you do a collectors edition. It has a huge art book instead of a small one and that's awesome!!
Seeing the OLED, Dread, and those amiibos together in the same frame is to die for lol
I went day one to Best Buy just to get a standard copy of dread. No luck. But sitting by itself on the bottom shelf, a special edition. I couldn't believe it. So cool that I got it. Just at the right place at the right time. 😄
Great detailed review, iv'e never owned a Switch until now but I am very impressed with the console Oled screen and the amazeing Metroid game, I am a fan of the Metroid games going back decades...

Here in the UK the metroid dread special edition does come with the standard box and the steelbook. Odd they didn't release both in yours.

metroid probably is the nintendo character I am most attached to just because metroid fusion was one of my first gba games as a kid

Snagged mine from target online, literally at 12:00 am release day. Was so disappointed to have missed preorders till it was sold out but mines supposed to be delivered tomorrow, so I’m glad
I got mine delivered right to my door before I even woke up to go to the store to pick up my standard edition copy that I actually opened to play, it truly is a _massive_ box.
My only complaints are that other regions get both the steelbook and a standard case in the box, and that the Special Edition isn't shrink-wrapped. I'm in love with the game. I've had enough time with it to say that I think only Super Metroid is better, but they'd be equals to me if there were an option to swap the left stick and D-pad controls to allow for movement with the latter.
One of my favorites games ever along with Hollow Knight and Ori Will of the Wisps. All of those games are masterpieces!
I will say I think this is one of the best special editions Nintendo has ever made. Not only as a great promotion for Metroid Dread, but as a beautiful way of celebrating the franchise’s 35th Anniversary (1986-2021). I hopefully plan on getting the game for Christmas this year, as someone who’s been excited since the games announcement at E3 2021.

Nice unboxing! I got the Japanese version. It did come in a 2 piece box, it is matte and everything inside, except for the game was not shrink wrapped. The art book is bagged.
I REALLY wish I had gotten this edition but I remember i got the standard one at release. I gotta track this down someday!
the european version i have is build differently,
you open it by just lifting the top which is the front of the box and then just acess everything inside
also we get the normal game box + steelbook

I ended up buying both copies because I needed both cases. Wish Nintendo included both as I hear they did in Japan.

Managed to get the Special Edition, 2 pack and Ridley amiibo from local GameStop (did try to pre order them when it was announced but couldn’t get them) didn’t have a pre order so I called ahead two days early to see if they had extras and they did and they put one of each aside the employees are cool and I went and picked them up and I love it
Had to use Play-Asia to import a Japanese version. Still waiting on it to come in. Most places sold out fast in pre-orders because of scalpers, so I had to import the game. As a lot of comments said Nintendo is weird where it was normally American versions that remove the normal retail case and give you just the steel book.
I was able to order one at 4 am from target very happy
Wow. Collector's Edition is really cool. I just found a brand new sealed copy for only $50 !!!
I preordered the game at Gamestop and I got the standard edition and a Pin Set. I also bought the amiibo set, thankfully there was one left at that store, so I'm happy for those.
I am enjoying Metroid Dread very much. But the EMMI's are a pain in the ass, lol! Such a short window to counter them and escape when caught.
My thoughts on Sora in Smash Ultimate is really "meh" with me as I don't care much for KH series. I enjoyed the first game though. But it is what it is and I'm grateful for the roster that they gave us in the game.
Looks like a great Special Edition. The book looks pretty cool for the fans of the series. The only complain is the fact they didn't give the two cases together in the same box.
Now I know that you probably pre-ordered the Zelda Game & Watch (which is coming out on November 12), I don't know if scalpers targeted that too. I had to pre-order the US version thru a website that I didn't know about because pre-orders were sold out at the websites I usually go to. I was able to pre-order the Japanese version thru Play-Asia and I already paid for it. The US version has not been paid for yet because I heard they won't charge me until it gets shipped in November. My only question is, have you pre-ordered your copy of the Zelda Game & Watch? If you did, which versions?
The uk version also comes in a plastic protective case for the big box

Missed the original release but same, I follow an acct on Twitter and was able to get a SE copy from GameStop, Amazon UK & Best Buy
I got the last one on GameStop before these sold out, they’re being scalped like crazy, and the Amiibo set is being scalped too. But I’m keeping mine completely sealed in a display box, and I got the last Metroid Amiibo set in Target.
Is this special edition box the same size as the xenoblade 2 one? Im wondering because I want to buy a protective sleeve for this.
NZ special edition contains retail case and steel book.
Check out the japanese gba version of the nes metroid, the box and overall presentation makes a gorgeous collector's item.
Metroid Dread is sick
I got the special edition and the book and card pack looked greasy fresh out of the plastic for me too, besides that everything looks sick and the game is awesome
Good. I just wanted to verify that no original case is included, which is odd, because Fire Emblem Engage special edition does include it. Only thing is, they are the exact some cases, one is just in steel.
The amiibos are so beautiful, I'm glad I've been able to get all of them from my favorite game franchise. Also when is the Metroid wall coming?

I got the Japanese special edition. It comes with both steel and plastic case.
And none of the things came shrink wrapped....
Love Amibos…….hopefully Nintendo keeps making these great figures. Can’t wait for Zelda BOTW2 special edition
In Europe they get both the steelbook and the original case. I dont know why they dont give us the option for both. My favorite is the art cards in this set.
Bought Dread digitally kinda regretted not pre ordering the SE…… glad I didn’t. The art looks great but not $90 great enough for me. Thanks lithium for doing this and washing away any regrets.
If I had to pick between the two, I'd rather get the amiibo. At least if enjoy them more rather then putting them on the book shelf like the special edition
I agree, I can’t part with any of my Amiibo, especially since I’m neck deep with all Smash, Zelda, & Metroid amiibos.
I feel the same. Super wanted it, but after watching this I dont feel like Im missing anything. If the art book had art from the prime games I'd maybr feel different. Otherwise this all looks like stuff I'll look at for 10 minutes and then never pull out again

I got the limited edition as well and it came with the sealed original case and steelbook. I am based In Ireland so this must be region based.
I just got mine, which is an EU version, so it was both boxes. On the down side, we won't be able to get the Amiibos until November.
I would buy a movable, larger scale model of an EMMI in a second.

I went to gamestop and asked for a display only case that has the art thats almost exactly like the game minus it says for display but I'm ok with that.

I have both cases and the box opens in a diferent way.

I had a problem last year with Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Europe Special Edition. The store I bought it did not recieve the game and I had to wait and ask them for a refund.

The reason why the Switch OLED, Metroid Dread Special Edition, and Metroid Amiibo sold out quickly was because of the scalpers, that is why all of these are unavailable at this time after release. The only thing people can get is the regular edition of Metroid Dread, the scalpers didn't target that! It sucks that scalpers have to do this to make a lot of money, it gets old fast!
