Rory Stewart was once a Tory MP and campaigned to become party leader after Mrs May resigned. It's baffling why he ever joined the Conservatives in the first place. The Lib Dems are ideally suited to him. Had he succeeded, he would have led the party to a defeat greater than the shambles Sunak did.
I've listened to Kemi when she started gaining attention. The Party is not stupid. She's very articulate, intelligent, competent, and highly principled, and her track record is encouraging. I don't really care where she's from. But she has spoken so much sense. I will vote for her with confidence. I voted for Nigel Farage last time. But she appears more clear-eyed than Farage.

One doesn’t need to agree with everything what Alistair and Rory are saying. - I cannot emphasise enough how enormously enjoyable is it to listen to educated, knowledgeable and decent people with broad understanding of politics and current affairs. Thank you guys
"Decent" people eh? Do you know anything at all about Alistair's background???? As for Rory, he is such a lover of democracy, he wanted to overturn the results of the Brexit referendum. Hmmm...

It’s about time this comment section gets some regulation. Too many people jump in just to say something negative about Campbell. And yes, the Iraq dossier is, of course, somewhat problematic, but to let this single event consume the totality of Alastair Campbell’s existence would be to overlook the vastness of many of his positive contributions. He has consistently demonstrated dedication, insight, and integrity in many areas, and we shouldn’t neglect the good he has done because of one contentious chapter.
He’s too tribal, Rory gives some balance but this podcast is basically two lefties talking. I don’t mind though, always good to consume content that isn’t an echo chamber for my right of center politics.

Speaking as a Brit resident in Britain, who has always voted Labour, I give credit to the Tories for picking women and non-white people as leaders, without making much of a fuss about it. Contrast this with American politics, where there has never been a female President, and the country had to react to their shock at electing a black man as President by switching to a racist lunatic, for the sake of contrast. I don't hate British politicians or political parties. I hope we can keep some civility over here, and not go in the direction Trump has dragged the USA.
Good point . It is also to the credit of the tories that they quite happily and properly and without favour put up ethnic minority candidates in very safe Conservative and white seats and got them elected . People like Kemi in NW Essex , James Cleverley in neighbouring Braintree , Sajid Javid in Bromsgrove , Bim Afolomi in the former Hitchin and Harpenden seat , Kwasi Kwarteng in Spelthorne , Ranil Jayawardena in NE Hampshire , Priti Patel in Witham and Suella Braverman in Fareham and Waterlooville and of course Rishi Sunak in Richmond and Northallerton . Labour ( my party ) appear to make more of a virtue signalling point when selecting candidates . For a lefty I dont agree with positive discrimination as it means discriminating against someone else who just may be the best person for the job .

I agree with you but - to be fair - it’s difficult to genuinely call a Tory left wing. Clickbait is unacceptable though, particularly when it contains grammar errors!
As someone from her constituency, i would add that two large effects helped her even win her seat. First, our reform candidate got kicked out of the party after it was revelaed he used to be part of the BNP. Secondly, the lib dem and labour vote was very split - this is a very upper middle class area, which should not be voting labour. In 2029, if there is a concerted effort she could easily be kicked out of the party. She also does nothing for the area, especially young people
@@sinisalo8710 I dont know the area so bow to your local knowledge , but the seat ( now NW Essex ) is pretty rural outside of Saffron Walden , Stanstead Mountfitchet and Great Dumnow ( if it still includes those areas ) with alot of picturesque countryside with beautiful idyllic names like Thaxted and Steeple Bumpstead and is the epitome of a Conservative heartland . Is the seat more or less most of the Uttlesford Council area and part of Chelmsford council area ?
You know there is a lovely aura of sanity that can be found in the UK, Thank you both so much for your fascinating perspectives and for not being American!
Not true in the Conservative Party, purely on merit and doing a good job. One former Conservative cabinet minister started out in life as a farm labourer. The Labour Party has totally lost its working class roots and is now the prevail of middle class champagne socialists.
Why the f would u want someone working class to do a posh man's job. Stop looking at the Lords and wishing u were them and just be happy with who you are, if you are who you say you are that is.
In response to some comments about Alistair. I’ve always had a lot of time for him. I appreciate the honesty with which he has talked about his personal struggles and in a way in which people also troubled can relate. He was the only person in the Labour Party and the media who highlighted the Tory campaign of “the mess Labour left us in” and that Labour left a vacuum as a response. He is intelligent, well informed and well balanced. He would be in the top three of famous people I would like to have dinner with. The other two are Trump and Putin (but only if my wife cooks).

What's the difference between a children with autism and a child who refuses to control their impulses? The reality is, there is none, it's not a binary condition, it's a scale and she is objectively correct, a child with impulse control of 0.4 who we classify as autistic we care about, but a child with impulse control of 0.41 we classify as anti-social. The nuanced reality is that autism should not be given special treatment, all people should be given fair consideration.
@ The difference is in the massive rate of exclusion of autistic children from schools. The difference is that only 30% of autistic adults are employed. The difference is that the suicide rate amongst autistic people is several times that of the general population. Does that sound like a privileged group to you? Your talk of “impulse control” is utterly ignorant
@@jonathan2847 first Badenoch was factually incorrect. She equated anxiety to neurodivergence and autism to a mental health condition. Neither of those are correct. Notwithstanding, I get why people would view people being treated differently as not being fair, but it is. Let’s take your example where two children have the same level of inattention and one has a condition (eg autism) and one doesn’t. The former, due to their autism, may have less capability to understand their issues and also may have a limit on what their ceiling of attentiveness is that is below the “norm”. Requiring them to meet standards that are likely unachievable doesn’t help anyone. (It would also be a waste of teachers’ time and taxpayers money- which KB hates). If the other student is just choosing to be inattentive and has no condition (as you described) be able to achieve a higher level of attentiveness- we would then be doing them a disservice treating them as if they had the same ceiling because they may be able to achieve a higher level of attentiveness, which would be good for their future employment prospects etc. it would do them a disservice not to aspire to a level higher than other people who can’t achieve those goals. It would also long term be beneficial to the person and state (they may contribute more tax, be less likely to commit crime etc). An easy proxy when people struggle to understand mental disability is to take a physical proxy. Person A and Person B both run the 100 metres in 1 minute- a very slow time. If person A has one leg and person B is hyper morbidly obese then you aren’t going to treat that issue the same. Person A (bar prosthetics etc), will be capped a lot lower than normal versus an average 100 m time as they are effectively hopping. Person B would likely get significantly faster if they lost weight and got healthier. They likely have a higher ceiling than Person A and so the intervention should be appropriate on the basis of that. Treating people fairly =\= treating people equally and treating people equally could both be a disservice to those who are disabled and those who aren’t.
Her personality.....just comes across as nasty. Everything seems to go in cycles and this is reminding me of the cycle they went through after Blair got in. She's Michael Howard with less empathy (ha!). Hope they're out of power for a very, very long time. Hope some people who actually are interested in protecting and conserving state assets and institutions instead of selling them off and cutting services, come in eventually. Some proper Conservatives (in the now VERY old sense) with a genuine empathy for people and particularly the poor.
@@LeonLShaw Don't you get it yet? To be elected, you have to appeal to the majority center ground. To them, empathy is a dirty word. But to want to pitch in as a politician, you have to see the bigger picture, and that requires empathy. The result is junior MPs who are total turds, becoming senior ones with a closer resemblance to a reptile than any self-respecting viper really deserves. This is why Starmer's failure to loose MI5 on them is a serious mistake, in Machiavelli's view, as a new Prince, if you can't rule by love, rule by fear. There was some hope after the Southport riots that he'd got a grip, but no, the flabby old DPP emerged, seeing the best in total thugs. The real question is who's the puppetmaster with his hand up their unmentionables.
Is AC describing himself? What utter nonsense. Kemi actually knows what's going on in the country, especially when it comes to women's rights. How tone deaf entitled male can you sound? Hopefully someone can give the lads a run for their money in that respect. But I doubt it.
I know people who have worked for her who say she treats her staff terribly. She's one of these people who cover up for their inadequacies with bluster and arrogance, but there's not much below the surface. A lot of people are hailing how smart she is - I'm afraid I just don't see it. Smarter than many of her Tory colleagues, perhaps, but that's not hard. Not even a majority of Tory MPs want her (they wanted Cleverly), and with only 120 of them it won't take long for fatal splits to appear.
She sounds just like a first year wannabe student politician - anything to grab a headline, no matter how tacky. Neither Alistair nor Rory could remember what she was comparing sex to, just that she did. Eughh!
@@cianog You don't have to have worked for her to know she's got abysmal people skills. Even her strongest supporters say she could start an argument in an empty room.

Thought the point that LibDem inroads into Tory vote puts Badenoch on the backfoot as she is on the right right instinctively. Better for her to ignore Reform. How she deals with that re policy will be key.
I was a bit concerned about her choice as leader. She looked competent enough, speaks nicely and I thought she might appeal to voters who are socially regressive whilst providing cover for their racism. Then I saw her in Laura Kunnesberg, and I stopped worrying so much. Utter nonsense and apparently unaware that she’s speaking nonsense. Anyone foolish enough to dismiss partygate and all the other misdemeanours that it came to represent, can’t be all that bright or, maybe bright, but basically rubbish at knowing what to say. If she is the best they can do, and the evidence from the leadership contest suggests it may be, then the Tories are toast. They might hang about as a legacy brand and get a relaunch in a few years, but if I were invested in them, I’d worry.
The claim of competence sits badly with the choice to accept terms to join the CPTPP practically as given, almost without any effort to negotiate to obtain better ones for the UK. The impact of that trading relationship compared to the terms of trade with EU countries will be felt by many citizens until the disaster of Brexit is recognised and remedied.
Always enjoy listening to you both: mind you, the advert at the beginning borders on the nauseous. I didn't know hether to 'Get fused' or tell someone to 'Get fu''d'. Still, I guess it's the price one must pay for listening to superior political podcasts!
For me Badenoch showed her true colours within seconds of her first PMQs. She said she would be a constructive opposition, a statement preceded by a nasty unnecessary little jibe (thanking the PM for his "almost warm welcome") and then going on in her very first question to undermine UK national interests. Love or hate Trump (I'm the latter), the UK does need to try to form some sort of constructive relationship with the new US administration. Badenoch reading Lammy's derogatory statements about Trump into Hansard and then trying to put the PM on the spot about them is definitely not a constructive contribution at this time. The woman is poison.
I can´t take seriously anyone who thought Brexit was a good idea and then went swanning around the globe trumping up utterly useless trade deals with the other side of the world.
@@matthewv4170 Rubbish. The EU accounts for 42% of UK exports, down from 47% in 2010. US 22% and China a paltry 3%. Her trade deals were worth peanuts and disadvantaged our farming community.
You know things are bad when the only thing on the news to cheer me up recently was Badenoch (who I cant stand) keeping that appalling weasel Jenrick from winning
Agree totally with Campbell. Badenock is a Placeholder leader and the Tories know it. This makes sense because they Tories are going through an identity and Ideas Crisis so they need time to work out what they are. But I see Badenock is an immature and impetuous Culture warrior at a time wee need really serious thinkers to devise really serious solutions. Her parents 'gamed' the uk immigration system by flying to the uk to be born and she didnt even grow up in the uk. Despite studying 'software engineering' she only worked as a software engineer for 2 years before taking more general business management jobs, but she calls herself an 'engineer.' so that's a lie. These are red flags most of the media have missed. She is an upstart who is totally out of her depth. She is very similar to Truss and will be a total embarassment. Farage will benefit the most from this. The Tories are a total bin fire
One of the worst things is that she appears to be both malicious and entitled. Not good when you add those characteristics to those you have already mentioned.
It’s bonkers that someone like Rory or indeed Rory is not the leader of the Conservatives. It shows you how powerful social media is as a weapon in the wrong hands.
Opening trail to the show seemed to be going in as very anti-KB, but, the body-content of the episode was actually quite balanced. Interesting and enjoyable. I agree that while I wouldn't necessarily see her as a good PM (although maybe I'll be surprised), I think she will be a beneficial leader of the opposition, and will catalyse labour by giving them someone to put on an energetic fight with.
Hiring her is an own goal for Tories. The split in their vote is due to many fleeing to Reform and others fleeing to more moderate parties such as LibDems and even Labour. Her politics will not win back the moderates, and (sad to say) that her complexiion will not win back the racist tendencies of the Reformers. Given Labour's poor share of the vote I thought the Tories would act to win back their lost support. This is not the way to do it. It had never ocurred to me before but I now wonder how many votes had the Tories lost simply because Sunak was not white. Racism seems to be the elephant in the room in British politics - until we get riots like we had earlier this year, then it is all too obvious a evil virus working its way through society.
Honestly I'm still laughing about their failure of tactical voting the other week. Otherwise, I'm torn on whether this is a good thing. I want the rightwing vote to be split, but I don't want it to tip over into Reform becomming the opposition. Not that I can do anything aboutbit anyway. As for the racism, it sadly wouldn't surprise me if that were the case.
I must say, you lot and the Americans aren't as smart as you should be. Look how you have run yourselves into the ground! You need to stop with neo-colonialism around the world and free Africa, not vote random black and Asian people into your parliament to do your dirty work!
When Tory MPs picked Badenoch and Jenrick as the final two it sent the message that they are not bothered about winning votes back from Labour , The Lib Dems and Greens which helped to cost them many seats and as a centre left voter that suits me fine .
As Trump would say - "it was a rigged deal". So your advert says crucially your entry has got to be in by 3rd November, but it's now the 9th, and the episode is 4 days old, which my maths means it was released on the 4th November...
She says some breathtakingly awful stuff. I saw a clip where she was arguing that membership or not of the ECHR is irrelevant. Whether or not we are members of the ECHR the real problem is that Home Office officials side with the asylum seekers. She was saying they should help charities, not be public servants. Really? I mean really? It's just gobsmackingly awful.
I think at first I misunderstood what Rory was saying at 14:05, comparing the respective tenures in the UK and Dutch parliament. I thought he said current MPs have very little parliamentary experience *compared to* (current) Dutch MPs. I don't think that's actually what he was saying, but too late, I'm already back from the rabbit hole! Average tenure of current Dutch MPs (as on 5 Nov 2024): 1332 days. Less than 4 years, which is our nominal election cycle. Number of MPs with tenures shorter than 1332: 115 out of 150. Median tenure: 336 days, which is the date of the most recent election, which means that just over half of our MPs have been there for less than a year.
True . I wonder if a PR electoral system produces a higher turnover than FPTP .If you think at the 2019 General Election MPs like Ken Clarke ( who stood down ) and Dennis Skinner ( who was defeated ) had first been elected in 1970 , 49 years before . I think the longest serving MPs now are Sir Edward Leigh and Jeremy Corbyn , first elected in 1983 , 41 years ago .
Low party member turnout and even lack of much publicity were due to the fact that this election wasn't for selecting the PM too (by implication). But her clear strategic views of so many topics, and calm and friendly manner even under pressure, plus her perfect articulation when we realise that she actually came to this country only 25 years ago as a grown up, are all very impressive. And she DOES realistically reflect some of the concerns of the public, including immigration. Campbell seems to be pre-biased against her; but Rory's superb -- balanced, knowledgeable, and fair!
Better go to The Interesting Times podcast. Matt deals with the non understanding of Dawn Butlers ironic comment brilliantly. The Tories can dish out racism but lack the intelligent humour to get it when thrown back in their face.
This is a very shallow podcast from a Centre-Left perspective where one of the members is an active media spinner for the Labour Party. If you don't know that going in I am telling you that now. If you still want to listen than fantastic, if you are looking for objecitve news analysis or analysis from a Conservative perspective you should probably look elsewhere.
@@tobywaller7574 How can something be objective if it's from a Conservative perspective? Have you seen the Tory leaning press with its client journalists? Rory was 5th in line to be PM during the Tory leadership contest. -Yawn
True, but not in way you seem to have meant this. No party is even countenancing the large scale deportations and remigration that we need. People consistently democratically voted for less immigration over the last 5 elections and the Brexit vote. They pursued their extreme policies of mass immigration without democratic consent. Now that we are facing the consequences of these policies, economic catastrophe, astronomical crime levels, impossible housing costs and just about every other issue impacted. We need a proper conservative party way to the right of reform and the tories.

I'm surprised how positive they're being about her, and skimming over her previous scandals. Perhaps they have to remain impartial, but she's an awful woman. Trending towards as right wing as Patel and Braverman (she's reeled it back for the election but I don't believe it's really gone) but also thick and combative. Can't see any positives for a party that experts say needed a moderate, not another right winger
The Tories need more moderates like F1 needs slower cars. The party has drifted into wet liberal territory since Cameron, and have basically been continuity Blair - they haven't repealed any of his dreadful works, the supreme court, the Equality Act or any of the ridiculous quangos throttling the country. The Tories need someone prepared to get to work peeling off the layers of corrupt bureaucracy holding us back. Get rid of woke in schools and workplace, DEI and all that bs, and get the economy growing. Borders need enforcing, too, before we are swamped in 3rd worlders.
Campbell's initial comments 5 seconds in to this video don't describe Badenoch, they accurately describe himself. He is so massively out of touch. No need to watch anything past 10 seconds.
We can say the same from you two as well, I have huge respect for Rory, you guys have no idea how ordinary people are suffering and how suffocating it feelings at the bottom.
I was one of the 30% I joined the Conservative party following the last election, with a hope to vote for someone i could support. The Parliamentary party left me with nobody I could vote for in good conscience.
MP wise I would take a guess at Andrew Mitchell , perhaps Jeremy Hunt , Alicia Kearns , Damian Hinds , Jesse Norman and Jeremy Wright OK I am struggling a bit now !.
I think one thing has become clear. I’ve always been a critic of the FPTP system, and the 2 party system but - as things stand - both are protecting us from populism, to some degree. As an example, proportional representation would result in Farage being very close to winning.
I couldn't care less about her skin colour, but she is lumbered with a whole set of retrograde African social attitudes. She may be intelligent, but she's been intellectually over-indulged, which leads her to be intolerant to opposing views. Some of her statements betray a serious lack of empathy with, and understanding of, ordinary people's lives. I find her unnecessarily aggressive and I suspect she will be a terrible bully. She is dangerously ignorant about climate change and net zero, and shows little interest in finding out.

When her opponent admitted that if he were American he would vote for Donald Trump, voters applied the old standby that applies in all elections: it's not who you vote for, it's who you vote against.
Except you forget they were appealing to a small cross section of the UK electorate , namely Tory Party members and I suspect most would prefer Trump .
@scooby1992 Nope, didn't forget. So why didn't they vote for him....maybe they figured the Orange Imbecile might win which would make Trump and Jenrick an unhealthy alliance...
That’s a seriously small talent pool you’ve got going over there, Tories, so it’s no surprise that you voted in this mediocrity. No surprise either that Hunt, Dowden and Cleverly refuse to get involved in the impending car crash. At least a decade in the wilderness is my prediction.
The thing that’s worrying for our democracy is that she presents a poor alternative to Reform for the electorate likely to be drawn to the Right Wing among the working class. The vote will be split even more in favour of Reform.

As a non-British subject who would never have voted for her if that were the case, she is charismatic but is unfortunately in the Conservative party.
18:56 Is this actually the fault of the current voters being more impatient than previous generations, or is it more related to the incompetence of the current generation of politicians?
Kemi’s leadership success emphasises just how much the Tory membership are out of touch with the electorate. I predict she’ll be gone within 18 months, once her inadequacies become evident to all.
The only reason Labour won is because of how bad the conservatives have been for 14 years. The majority of the British public agree with more right wing ideologies than left wing ones just look at the past decade.
@@damian_smith She's obsessed with issues that most people don't care about at all (the polling is very clear that people are very bored of talking about "culture wars" and "identity politics"; yes the base love it but the bulk of the voters hear the word "woke" and switch off). She's got terrible interpersonal skills - it's said of her that she could start a fight in an empty room. And I've no idea why people think she's tough. What we've seen from her consistently is that she makes "tough" (meaning ignorant and poorly thought out) statements and then immediately backs down. She either denies her own words or claims she's been taken out of context - her comments on maternity leave are a great example; her original words were clear and unequivocal but she instantly started pretending that she didn't mean what she said. Fundamentally, this choice says that the Tory party have no understanding of why they were beaten and even less understanding of what they need to do to rebuild. She's a dead end for them.
Three cheers for Rory. It might just be the lighting but it looks like he's got a new crown on that front tooth. The previous one was as distracting as that big mole was for Austin Powers.
I still just about followed this, but this was the least interested I’ve ever been in a leadership contest involving one of the 2 main parties. The Tories are so useless and irrelevant now that I found it difficult to care. When they were last in opposition, a political heavyweight Ken Clarke kept standing, while from the sidelines Thatcher was determined to stop him from winning. This result was completely overshadowed by the Man Utd managerial appointment !
Kemi visited my husband‘s old firm, a large British manufacturer. She refused to sign an NDA. She sent a list of beverages that she wanted to be provided for her and theirroom temperature. She didn’t ask any intelligent questions and she behaved like a diva. I very much doubt that she has any real concept of public service. Separately, her understanding of the kinds of treatment and provision for autistic children and creating a divisive narrative around that has been utterly disgusting.
I am Victoria’s husband. Kemi is a truly horrible person, divorced from the reality of most lives in this country and actually really, really thick. Unfortunately surrounded by a bunch of sycophants so doesn’t really comprehend this. Democracy only really works properly when there is a credible opposition. She is not it. But then that might be why she has the job now. When we get closer to the next election, she’ll be history, replaced by someone with more integrity and substance.
all politics is totally divorced from real lives, it's why its dying out. I cannot remember the last time a politician did something for the peoples benefit.
Same thing was said about Trump. Kemi can win, a week in politics is a long time. Keep thinking that. Nothing wrong with the leadership process, must not be left to the elites only.
I find Badenoch;s performances in the commons woeful. Same at interviews. She is patronising, thin skinned and unable to answer questions that even vaguely challenge her views. I find the descriptions of her as likeable as odd. She is not to the observer. Her views on woke things show her to be totally out of touch. She has terrible views on immigration which like many tories who are from a background of immigration makes one scratch their heads in bewilderment. I predict 1-2 years and then she will be toast.
"terrible views on immigration" - the only sane option is to cut it - the population is increasing too fast for our woeful infrastructure, NHS etc! Economic migrants and illegals are going to bankrupt this country, they cost over 400,000 per person, and will bring nothing to the country. Get real mate. Why should a former immigrant not want tighter borders now, when the country is in danger of becoming a 3rd world dormitory!
I don’t care what leader comes in for whatever party. Just do what is right for the country & the people of this country. British culture British values What the British people want Instead of trying to shoe horn this never ending world peace multicultural environment which will never ever happen. Too many cooks spoil the broth, there are too many egos, ideologies, people thinking they have more power over another for multiculturalism to work. Just pissing everyone off
Does multiculturalism really impact your life that much? I live in the south in a large town that is very diverse. I like the diversity but we still have churches, pubs, old school cafes, countryside is 5 mins away, etc. Nothing has been taken away. Most people rub along fine.
Kemi Badenocjh has recently been talking disparagingly about 'low glass ceilings' Given that she has just been elected to lead a Party that currently has its lowest ever level of representation in the Commons, the membership of which has fallen by 20% in the past 18 months and in which Honest Bob Jenrick is condiered to be a 'Big Beast' I would keep quiet about low glass ceilings I I were her.

Wrong again! Kemi is great! Very thoughtful.
This is a canard.

Good point . It is also to the credit of the tories that they quite happily and properly and without favour put up ethnic minority candidates in very safe Conservative and white seats and got them elected .
She also does nothing for the area, especially young people
Does nothing for young people? Perfect for the old pensioner vote then!
What are you talking about, upper middle class is the epitome of labor vote

Her comments about autistic children were ignorant, nasty and unforgivable and almost the exact opposite of the truth.
@@AndrewHepburn what did she say about austistic children?
@@Nonesovile96 A black person being right wing isn't being an uncle tom. That assumption itself is racist. Many 3rd generation immigrants tend to be quite right wing.

Well yes, masses of MPs chose not to stand again, lots are therefore going to be new.

Some of her statements betray a serious lack of empathy with, and understanding of, ordinary people's lives. I find her unnecessarily aggressive and I suspect she will be a terrible bully.
She is dangerously ignorant about climate change and net zero, and shows little interest in finding out.
Yes, very much my feelings too.
She understands ordinary people. She worked in McDonalds for 5 minutes
@@KevinHorrox yes, must have been a drop from being chauffeured to her elite school in Lagos. In a Nigeria she says was under a ‘socialist government’ (it was a military dictatorship).
Still, her parents were clever enough to get her born in a private hospital in London, to obtain a UK passport, just before her heroine Thatcher ended that option.
You go ahead and know what omniscient God knows about climate change ( I personally know little and care less.) Nothing that either of us know or say or do will make an inch of difference to Indian and Chinese coal burning policy.
@@actionflower6706 what a sad attitude to have
That bit about oow turnout is so funny to me, like how do you have 70% turnout of party members? What's actually the point of being a member then?
It will be interesting to see how Badenoch pans out, she stood up well to Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday I thought, Rory Stewart would be a lovely PM but he’s too honest & a nice person probably!
At least a decade in the wilderness is my prediction.
with the greatest respect, how can we have stability if we have to change r electricity providers all the time???
The thing that’s worrying for our democracy is that she presents a poor alternative to Reform for the electorate likely to be drawn to the Right Wing among the working class. The vote will be split even more in favour of Reform.
If she lasts that long !
I don’t like Reform but how is that worrying for democracy?
@@NeilOB9 Firstly we need an effective opposition and secondly the Far Right have the tendency to erode rights . Starting with those of minorities, then due process, official independent bodies and the rights of others. It’s a slow but obvious road toward Fascism .
As a non-British subject who would never have voted for her if that were the case, she is charismatic but is unfortunately in the Conservative party.
It doesn’t occur to either of them that 30% of Conservative Party members may not have voted because they disliked both candidates.
Which inadequacies do you have in mind?
BRITAIN IS ANGLOPHOBIC THEY SOLD OUT TO ISLAM BLACKS & INDIA HOW MANY WHITES IN POWER IN BLACK MUSLIM OR INDIAN COUNTRIES
The only reason Labour won is because of how bad the conservatives have been for 14 years.
The majority of the British public agree with more right wing ideologies than left wing ones just look at the past decade.
The Tory membership is very much a part of the electorate, though. Why is it wrong for them to elect leaders that represent their own views?
Deadline 3rd November, on the 5th November ...
I can’t believe Fuse are at it again!
I like her. She stands her ground. We've had too many TINO types that haven't had any Tory principles. They're basically, right wing Labour types.
A horrible woman
I am Victoria’s husband. Kemi is a truly horrible person, divorced from the reality of most lives in this country and actually really, really thick. Unfortunately surrounded by a bunch of sycophants so doesn’t really comprehend this. Democracy only really works properly when there is a credible opposition. She is not it. But then that might be why she has the job now. When we get closer to the next election, she’ll be history, replaced by someone with more integrity and substance.
It has to be kemi😅
Kemi the Anchor baby
She’s acting like Trump & the Magas. Buyer beware of this lady.
Well 17.5% flat tax is not the best idea she's had. Makes £220 winter fuel look miner to that.
all politics is totally divorced from real lives, it's why its dying out. I cannot remember the last time a politician did something for the peoples benefit.
I watch these podcasts for the uninspiring ad reads from a veteran MP and a veteran staffer and media figure.
Alistair just cut Rory off when he was giving us interesting infomration about Kemi background.
its a shame, it is primarily this reason I follow this. Alistair if you are reading these comments let Rory finish please.
He's a racist thug.
Generally they are good together, so let's not be overly critical .
She is also very very condescending .
I don't think anyone in Britain has said Rishi Sunak was black.
Starmer will be quaking in his boots!
Yes he should. About time Keir's entitled approach gets a challenge.
I don’t care what leader comes in for whatever party.
Just do what is right for the country & the people of this country.

Instead of trying to shoe horn this never ending world peace multicultural environment which will never ever happen.
I will definitely be tuning into your US election podcast.
I'm still waiting for all the Black Rights charities to come out and congratulate her. Will I be waiting a long time?
Has Mr. Stewart never listened to her? She is arrogant, condescending and impatient. She speaks to everyone as if they were mud marring her designer shoes.
Sounds like you have not been listening to her instead.
