I have the simpli safe for years now , i also use a garage camera inside and outside the garage entrance in addition to the garage door sensor. since you can add up to 9 cameras for the same monitoring monthly price. I buy the cameras when they go on sale at sams which seams to be the cheapest route. great videos and content
Ehh i feel like you should make another channel of you’re going out to use exotic tools. I feel like this channel was a minimalist channel now it’s not. Cool tool though
Your honesty and care in explaining, managing expectations etc... is quite remarkable. I believe that in this man dominated industry, I find it refreshing. Kind of similar in how a lot of managers are men and we re often missing out on this type or nurturing approach so thank you!
yup. of course i want one but i dont feel bad for others having stuff i dont have. i have only been into woodwork for a year so i cant expect to have everything already.
Same here. It's all about using one's head. Also, I think it's good to first use the other methods (if only because you are too broke to affort a fancy tool) before you get enough money to buy the fancy tool. And I see two advantages to this: i) obviously, you will (havo to) understand some things in order to finds solutions around the limitations posed by you not having all the fancy tools, so you'll use your brain more, and ii) it would avoid the pitfall consisting in buying a lot of expensive fancy tools then go bankrupt before even starting your business (or so low on money you won't be able to afford buying basic tools you didn't realize you need).
@@SerbanCMusca-ut8ny exactly my thoughts. I had the funds to buy all the "fancy" tools off the bat, but specifically did dozens of hours of research and tried to find the best mid range benchtop stuff. Totally agree it's best to learn on cheaper stuff, or no stuff! You end up training your brain and eventually if/when you can justify it or treat yourself you're in a great situation. Just like she said in the video, she had to learn how to grt around stuff, and look now how "obvious" solutions are to her. Love it. I'm just now buying a used biscuit joiner, got myself a makita track saw and one day it will be awesome to have a domino, but since I don't NEED it I just can't stomach it even if I can "afford" it. If/when I start selling my hobby projects, I'll definitely get one
I agree! I don't get all this being sorry for buying a tool that very relevant to your work. Let me check Amazon and see if it can fit my shop too aaaannd... sweet mother of Jesus, is it made of gold?? 😀
I recently invested in a dowelmax and that thing is simply amazing. Pretty much dummy proof once you get into the habit of using the checkmark system. For the longest time I used loose tenons made with a router jig I designed, but it wasn't as quick as I'd like. I also used to have a domino and the dowelmax is every bit as accurate, and the joints are plenty strong for woodworking projects. The domino is a bit quicker, but the cost of entry is about 4x that of the dowelmax. I ended up selling my domino since there was a period I had to stop woodworking for a bit. I'm back into the swing of things though, and once I get a few other big tool purchases behind me (CNC and then a sawstop) I'll get the domino again. That thing is a joinery game changer. Enjoy your new toy!
Totally agree. I invested in the dowelmax and I love it. What she said about having to perfectly align the holes is true. Before I got the dowelmax, it was very difficult to get the dowel holes perfectly aligned with the simple dowel jig that i was using.
@@cfoskeeter Yep. The precision and build quality of the dowelmax is what sold me on it after dealing with and hating one of the cheaper doweling jigs.
Part of the charm of your videos is watching you figure out new techniques and overcoming any problems you encounter with your projects, including making the odd mistake. It feels like we’re all learning together. However, we all have to grow and improve - and that includes our tools as well as ourselves - so there’s no need to feel guilty about upgrading. The woodworking aspect will always be there no matter how sophisticated the machinery. Long may you continue!
I just got the 500 and it changed my life. So worth it. You'll love it. I wish I had known about the 1099.99 version, I bought the 1019.99 one and then bought all the stuff that came with the more expensive one separate. I got the CT 15, don't ever use that thing without dust collection or you'll wreck it, but I'm sure you know. I'd love to see Domino content, looking forward to it. Great video, congrats on the new tool you deserve it!
Happy Friday Tamar!!! No need to apologize for anything!!!! You’re my go to sweetheart when I’m scratching my head on a project… This is why I LOVE your channel.. You have no idea how much you have helped me… Thanks so very much 😊
Tamara, your words alone are great inspiration, let alone your ideas to solve complex problems with relative simplicity are extraordinary. Thank you for all you have taught me.
Or, with my budget, a Wen! Festool's earliest Domino patents were around 2004. Patents run 20 years, not including later innovations. I'm pretty sure most manufacturers have designs ready to produce as soon as they can, but we won't see affordable options until 2024 at the earliest.
I think we all buy the tools we need whenever we can afford them, as well as the tools we want once we can justify the cost to ourselves. As a weekend woodworker I cannot justify buying any Festool tools for myself, but I love to watch them being put to use on UA-cam! You keep doing what you do with whatever tools you decide to buy, and I'll keep looking out for your videos. No need to justify your purchases. You can't please all the people all the time.
One of these days I’ll probably buy a Domino too. I’m fairly committed to traditional joinery for my furniture pieces, but for other projects I see that they can be a real timesaver. I also think they make a nice little mortise for buttons to attach tabletops. Thanks!
I don't know a lot about woodworking, but nearly everything I learned was from watching Norm Abram every morning on PBS while I was getting ready for work. He had all these fancy tools to make certain cuts or joints, so my default reaction was "well, guess I can't build that project either...". The more episodes I watched, the more I realized he taught many other techniques to achieve the same results. Thank you for this video. So much great information.
Good luck with your new toy! I'm jealous. I think part of your appeal has been your "relateability" to new wood workers. You use the tools we have or help find a way for the tools we don't. This is switching from fixing honda engines to Ferrari engines. fun to watch but perhaps less likely to inspire someone to have a go themselves.
I agree with you here, however at a certain point a decision has to be made... Does the shop stay the same so the content remains consistent (like dedicated to making content for new woodworkers a la Woodworking for Mere Mortals), or does the shop continue to evolve over time (like many of ours do). Gotta decide what your passion is, I think. Tamar is pretty clear about it, she gets it, addresses it, and I hope many will understand.
@@MosquitoMade I don't disagree. everything changes, you have to grow. I was just acknowledging a shift in focus/direction and potential implications of that shift. no criticism implied.
@@martinmoss317 We're completely on the same page there (I saw your comment after I posted a similar one lol). Just based on how she addressed it at the beginning and end, she clearly understands that as well.
Glad you get it. Yeah. I started woodworking for the love of woodworking and creating. Not to make UA-cam videos…. I happen to have turned it into a business with the videos. But I’m not going to let that stop me from growing and creating in the way that I feel the most comfortable. I’m not setting up my channel to be anything…. It’s just a documentation of my “journey”. Ha
This is why I love following your videos from early days onwards. - You actually show me the mistakes I am also making, hence I learn. - The jigs you make are exactly what I need for my skill level where it is and suits my budget. -As my skill level grows, you actually introduce the better tools to get there faster.I can then make more informed decisions. - And now my budget is maxed for the RIGHT tool in the correct category (routers ,more routers, another router love that router!) Please keep it up. Also think about a paypal link if you want one day as I would love to actually contribute to more of these videos!
Can't wait for all the "don't hate me" disclaimers every time you pull out the Domino for future projects. :) Seriously, you've got a great attitude about this and woodworking in general so don't worry about the haters. You of all people simply cannot be accused of going the easy route - your creative workarounds are legendary! As a hobbyist at this point, I can't justify the cost of a Domino, preferring to put that money into wood but if I ever get into more of a production mindset, it'd be my first purchase! Still waiting for you to get a decent table saw though. :)
Tamar, I told you some time ago that you are the teacher. This video is a perfect example of that so well done. I remember my days in woodwork classes at high school and there were no power tools to be found. But you know what, that taught how to improvise with whatever hand tools were available and those skills are invaluable. Now we have access to some amazing power tools that just make things easier and quicker. Time is money in today's world so we have to take advantage of the quickest way to get the job done. Festool are very expensive but make some awesome products, have fun with your new toy. Great video.
One of the things I love about woodworking and DIY in general (electrical, mechanical, etc) is exactly the tools because I love tools, buttons, and machinery in general. 😊
Very glad that you explained your philosophy behind getting tools to support your business. Many youtubers flaunt their tools expecting everyone to have them. And thanks for all the great dowel tips!
How does buying/using a Domino equate to growing as a wood worker? It's a highly specialised tool for people where time = money. I.e. furniture production. In that context it makes perfect sense. For a hobbyist wood worker it is a luxury purchase that shows you've got more money than sense. For a YT content creator it reduces viewer interest if you keep pulling out a tool that viewers can't afford each time you need to join two pieces of wood together in a project.
You are awesome and no need to justify anything you decide to use; it’s your shop, your channel, your choice…and you have been such a help to so many with the straightforward way you explain things and show people how to grow their skills. Thanks for all you do!
Love that you show that having or not having a specific tool is OK and not an excuse not to build something and there is always another way to do things…Tamar thank you for helping us learn new techniques
20:23 "We take ugly rough pieces of lumber, and we turn them into things that they're not supposed to be" - or sometimes, in George Nakashima's way of thinking, we make them into exactly what they were supposed to be 😁
Your knowledge overwhelms me. You can speak faster than I can process the info. Not a criticism of you but a observation of my own learning curve. Your enthusiasm is contagious so it all balances out in the end.
You don’t need to justify your purchase. Your content is amazing. We get to watch you grow. And as you grow and your tools change and become more professional, hopefully we will too! Enjoy your reward for your hard work!
No apology necessary. You advance and mature in your craft, and we do too. Its just that since you have been in this earlier than a lot of your viewers, you get cool tools sooner. You deserve a new tool every so often, look at how long you have made your table saw last.
@@3x3CustomTamar I understand, just upgraded my Dewalt job site saw to a Harvey, got a great price. When I found “creative” ways to work with it, it was also started to take some of the fun out of it.
Why? If you can afford it, use the best tools for the job. I use a full complement of them and they work really, really well. Don't let ego get in the way of productivity and an easier life. Also, I hate their pricing structure. 🤷♂️
@@eviebr83 Festool tools are very expensive and they work well together as a system. People that 1- don’t understand the system and 2 - likely have not used these tools extensively doesn’t recognize the value compared to regular brands.
Domino was game changer. Worth every penny. No controversy at all. Just a niche segment of people who do hand tool stuff. I was trained in hand tool use and maintenance in my mid-teens at school 1968 to 1972. Used hand tools (inc drill and brace) for over 15 years till could afford machines. Still have my tools and dowels jig but machinery is faster, I don't have space for heavy benches, and I often work in people's homes and gardens. Machinery almost every time, especially modern dust control systems. Others will have said how biscuits are good for alignment but not strength. Dominos are tenons
They are only $200, put $5 in a jar for a year and you have more than enough. Better yet, if you have a Veteran friend, have him buy it (with your money) that will save you 10%
@@ChipEstrada Hmmm. Not sure what “they” you mean. Biscuit (plate) joiner and dowel max come in at about $200. Domino (drool) comes in at about $1,000.
@@ChipEstrada I am a military from Canada and I will remind you that the Canadian dollars worth 70 cents for a 1 US dollar......... it is a pure racket... Super happy for Tamar and I am a bit jealous of your new tool. Enjoy it. ha ha
Thanks again for not only reminding us about finding optional ways around a missing tool, but also giving us your insight in the how and why you use a particular tool and approach to different woodworking applications. One thing I would point out on using the spline though is the use of a plunge cut on each end and cutting the length so that the spline doesn't show on the end for pieces that would be visible such as in a divider or when edge joining two pieces together where there won't be banding around the outside edges. Always learn from watching your videos, Tamar. Thanks,
You know a person is dedicated to their audience when she puts a 22 minute video to show you to “don’t be mad at me!” I’m not. I’m buying a domino once I finish paying off the new table saw in a few months.
Don't apologize for having a domino you have worked had for 4 years and worked around it so so long i'm glad you got one. Sometimes you just need something to make a take easy so your creativity and be spent somewhere else.
It is inevitable. Domino joinery is just one of many innovations that happened through the evolution of wood working. It's not different from any power tool there is. It will serve its purpose, whether it breaks the bank or not. . .err, it will most definitely. But case and point, power tools are invented to aid workers in their craft, and this domino-thingy-majig, is just one of them tools.
"The quicker and more efficiently I can make my projects, the more videos I can make for you guys." WRONG APPROACH! I could watch a commercial furniture production line making many wonderful products and LEARN NOTHING USEFUL. I stopped watching April Wilkerson and Darbin Orvar because they focus now on their $$$ creations, and less on making the creative process approachable.
@@chrislamoureux5500 He's got a point. So do you, though. Ultimately it is 100% her call, but as channels evolve, as they must, so must their audiences. For better or for worse. I used to watch Wranglerstar 10 years ago. No longer. If you're familiar with his channel, you'll know what I mean. Last time I looked at his subscriber count, he doesn't miss me
I started this channel as a journey of my woodworking. People seemed to like when I shared what I learned along the way. There is nothing that’s going to change from that. It’s not like all of a sudden I know all because I have this magical tool. To think that is silly. Each project has its own unique challenges and this one tool is not going to solve them all. Ha
@@3x3CustomTamar I love your stuff and how much you've grown is nuts. If you find ways to be faster and crank out more content cool. With the wide range of things you make and your creative process there's no way your videos will be fluff articles. Your channel is a reflection of you and as a woodworker myself I honestly don't watch your channel to learn (although I do) I watch it for you....that sounds way creepier than I meant for it to lol.
Never apologize for having or getting a new tool to do the job that much faster and cleaner. You've put in the work and sweat with basic tools to get to where you are now in your woodworking journey
Funny how discussions about wood joinery become so colourful... decorative or functional, old vs new,. For many speed, cost, safety and repeatability matter too. There is so much to consider if one truly wants to explore the merits and suitability of one joint, wood species/material and geometry over another for a given load profile, function and aesthetic. As an old structural engineer that has worked on numerous wood, wood composite and timber structures, along with putzing around in my own shop - it is fun to just build stuff and improve my skill at working with wood, regardless of the tools I may have at hand. 3x3Custom - Tamar... great content and always a super delightful attitude, makes me smile, get off the couch and into the shop.
Tamar, I fully understand your idea to get the domino in an effort to save time of your projects, I am not a pro but I don’t have much time to dedicate in the shop between work and family, time is scarce. I saved and got the domino, absolutely no regrets, it enabled me to saved a lot of time and achieving projects much quicker. You have always showed different ways to make joints in your past videos. Being such an entertaining person, your videos are fun to watch! Keep up the good work!
The only thing I wish I had like in your shop is your energy 😀. Good luck with your new tool and if any haters don’t like it too bad. It’s your shop, your life and you need not apologize for living your life. You go girl. 👍
No need to apologize. You work hard! Go treat yourself. Like you said, it will help you with efficiency of producing more content. It’s cool that you understand not everyone can afford a Festool Domino and providing awesome alternatives videos like this one is amazing. I’m new to Woodworking as a weekend warrior from Dallas,TX. I love your jigs videos. I have a Dewalt 7845 Table Saw similar to your 745. So your Crosscut sled and Straight Edge Jig are freaking amazing. Now that lumber prices are going back down. I can’t wait to start making mine. Thanks again for your videos keep up the great work.
As a carpenter in a small cabinet manufacturing company, I think it’s a great tool. Yes, it’s expensive, but worth it. Sure furniture makers would love to do it all by hand but there is a saying in the area I work. “I know a lot of poor furniture makers”. The fact is that with how competitive the market is and how much cheap labor there is in other countries, some of which using not so nice business practices, we here in the west need to be able to do things well and do them quickly.
Totally agree. As a hobbyist, it’s one thing. Take your time, you don’t need to compete. But if it’s your livelihood, take advantage of these modern tools that can help you produce high quality work quickly. 👍
Twenty years ago when I was 18 I went to a votech for Cabinetmaking. I heard this trick to microwave the dowels to shrink them, so I decided to nuke my dowels in the shops adjacent lunch area. Well, I set the timer too long and forgot about them. When I got back to the micronuker, they were on fire. I grabbed the melting container with my bare hands, flaming dowels inside, and sprinted 25' to the shop sink to douse them. Thankfully, the only carnage was $15 in dowels, and one severely bruised ego in front of my class. So, of you cook them, keep an eye on them! Btw, I own lots of Festool. Don't make apologies, you only have so much time in life, so use the equipment to speed up the process! Keep up the great work.
Happened to me recently too! Didn't take long either, less than a minute, and on low power too. Fortunately I stopped the microwave before they burst into flames, but they were blackened and smoking.
I got a Domino several years ago and was lucky enough to get it used. Got the Domino and the accessory kit for about the price of the Domino alone. I also bought other Festool tools at estate sales. Took a while, but a great deal. I think you will like your Domino more than you realize. It's a great tool. Game changer. You will love it. (I'm so cheap I make my own dominos and still do not regret buying it.)
Congratulations! I heard what you said but didn’t think you were going to be changing to a production mode on your type UA-cam videos. As you said most of us don’t and won’t have a domino so we liked watching you come up with ways we could also do it. Doesn’t mean we won’t continue to watch your great build videos. Bottom line here is that I’m really glad you got one and know you will enjoy using one. Thanks for sharing!
Oh. I definitely won’t be changing to production mode. There is just one small aspect of my projects that’s going to take me a shorter amount of time to do. So my projects will be finished quicker and more efficiently
Great video Tamar. For the amount of joinery you do the Domino is absolutely justified, no apology necessary. I'm with you on the pocket hole joinery. I tried it once - wouldn't bother again! There are so many better alternatives in almost every situation.
Buying an expensive, shiny new tool and then making a video on ways to not use it. Genius! Seriously though, don't apologize for your tool choice. You're a pro and every pro uses specific and niche tools that are not for the casual hobbyist. Informative video showing pros and cons, thanks!
You're a very talented young lady and remember, It's your shop, it's your UA-cam channel and it's your projects that you build. If people don't like the tools you use, well that's their problem so no need to apologize. Personally, I would never buy a domino jointer myself, however, that won't stop me from watching and enjoying your great builds.
Congratulations on getting a Domino! After my first big project using mine, I would have found the money and bought one if I had not already owned it. It really save time when it comes to mortising for joinery in my projects. I am sold on the domino. Thank you for your videos. I really enjoy the verity that you provide on various ways to accomplish woodworking projects. Blessings!!
Hi Tamar, Glad to see you sharing your joy over another time-saving tool, as well as showing that your "too expensive" tool isn't the only show in town. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate the alternatives. Regards, R
Don't apologize for having good tools. A lot of us grew up watching Norm Abram in New Yankee Workshop and he had tools most of us will never own but was still a great learning tool.
I am hobbyist and I ended pulling the trigger on a domino. I used to rely on a dowel jig but like you I value time cause I don’t have much to spare on the weekends for my projects. It is expensive, but I love it. And also, I babied mine and dropped it once from my work table. It still works fine 😁
These sort of tools are good for people who have disabilities or chronic illnesses, where projects takes 10 times longer to do (even just using glue, nails etc). Always trying to find efficient tools. So thanks!
Tamar, you put so much imagination and intelligence into your videos. You provide us with endless inspiration, exploring alternative methods for a given goal and experimenting to discover what's possible. I'm delighted to see your excitement over a new tool, and yes so what if they're also toys?? That's what life should be about! You've more than proved your worth as a maker. Indulge yourself, you deserve it.
Congrats on the domino! We all wish we had one too and that’s why some peeps get mad so I wouldn’t worry about it…I have been looking for an affordable yet efficient way for dowel joinery, almost bought the dowelmax, but then ran across a video from Dennis at Hooked on Wood (episode 27), he does a series on China Tools and when I saw his video on a dowel joining system, I was “hooked”…I ordered the kit and was not disappointed. It’s not as fast as the domino, but it’s not much slower…it’s ideal for cabinet making, shelves/dividers and edge joining for glue ups…for about $110 I was able to get a jig that is fast and accurate, makes seamless joints…if I was a pro like yourself I would absolutely buy a domino, but for me this cheap but quality jig was a true bargain and excellent find…keep up the good content!
I'm glad you can have a domino but what I'm really jealous of is your knowledge and imagination to create or use different tools to get where you want. So easy to understand when you explain. Thank you for sharing !
Tamar, I think with the spline edge gluing technique, you might be better served to flip the piece over and rout/cut the groove again from a different side to make sure it is centered. It will give you a 'loose' fit and give you more room for glue on the edge grain. It will require more careful alignment, but in reality, that is what 'loose' tenon joiner is all about.
I feel the same way. The Domino always seemed to me like, as Chris Salamone of FourEyes says, "Woodworking on Easy mode" and I swore I wasn't going to take shortcuts like that. Felt real superior. What changed my mind (and I just got my Domino DF-500 this week, so we're both new to the tool) was a project where I did lots of loose tenon joints with a router and handmade tenon stock. It worked just fine, but took a lot of time and I was constantly making sure I had the pieces oriented right and taking 3-4 passes with the router per mortise. And I don't have the pressure of a UA-cam channel; just the pressure of trying to pack the most woodworking into a short weekend. But I got the Domino so I won't have to spend my time obsessing over mortises; I can instead spend that time either improving the designs or just getting things done faster to go on to the next project. (I have quite a list in waiting.)
Yes!!! Exactly!!! Now I feel like I can free up some creative space in my head to think more about the project as a whole than how am I going to get this all together
Tamar steps up to the plate... there's the pitch.. and SHE KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE PARK! HOMERUN! Too many people focus on the tools and not on the results. Great job showing all the different methods to accomplish the result. If you compare the tools we have today vs 100 years ago, we.. are.. SPOILED! Oh, you did forget one method for loose tenon joinery, hand cut the mortise! (or use a mortising bit). Congrats on the domino... we aren't jealous at all.. nope.. not jealous.. 😁 [Keep up the great videos!!!]
I just came across this video and it was exactly what I needed. A quick summary and how to joints. I’m starting my woodworking journey and this is exactly the content I needed. Thanks.
For the dowel marking pins. Put the piece with the pins in flat on the bench and the piece of be marked on it's edge. Then your bench takes care of the alignment for you. I like your dowel jigs, that's pretty cool.
How could anyone get mad at you ? Can’t wait to see you use this awesome tool and making awesome projects as you always do , good on ya for getting this tool it’s a great decision Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
Just came across this one. But oh man, I feel bad that you felt bad/guilty about getting one. You've got one of the most creative channels out there. No need to justify your purchase! It's well-deserved!
I've never seen an issue with the Domino. In a production environment, or any space such as yours, where it aids in work flow, it's an absolute must-have. For most hobbyists, who don't have set schedules or deadlines, using any of the other methods is just fine. Or if a hobbyist wants to use a Domino just for the sake of making their job easier, it's still a great addition to the workshop. There are almost always a bunch of different ways to accomplish the same thing in woodworking.
I use my Makita biscuit joiner in many occasions and appreciate that it cost maybe 15% of a domino and came with dust capture also. However, when a stronger joint is really important, chairs and tables for example then a loose tenon joint is much stronger so use your jig. Pocket holes are great for certain jobs but you are right that they are not for structural load work. Use a jointing sled to get around not having jointer and dado jigs along with the micro jig dado tool on the table saw. So many ways to do everything, some are better for particular tasks.
The thing is, Domino joiners are fantastic tools. They take a very common and often difficult-to-solve woodworking process (cutting mortise/tenons) and make it quick/clean. At the end of the day this is what every tool is supposed to do: take a difficult or tedious task and make it faster and easier. The difference with the Domino is accessibility. A lot of woodworkers can't justify the cost and don't have one, which can make this type of content less relatable since we at home are going through a different problem solving process than the person making the content. The person making the content no longer has to determine what the best way to accomplish a joint is, whether it's the right application for dowels, biscuits, or a handcut M&T, because the person making the content has a domino joiner which solves all these problems. Much like CNC: they are fantastic tools and very helpful when properly applied, but everybody would rather watch someone handcut a joint than use a CNC to cut the same joint. Anyway, people shouldn't be mad regardless, but I think that's how some people I've talked to feel at least. Super excited you were able to get one, I hope to be able to as well some day! Also thanks for all the great alternatives, it was a fantastic compilation!
I totally get it. That’s why I made this video! I showed the 3 different applications that are typically used when using a domino and showed alternatives for all those processes. So I’m a future video someone sees me using it for alignment. There is this video to show the alternatives
I like seeing the new tools! About a year ago I didn’t have any. Now I can do many wood working projects. I still don’t have a router or router table. But I learned from you how to use my table saw to do V cuts into hardwood and plywood to dress the edge of the plys. Someday, I’ll get a router table.😉
Congrats on the FWW article! Agreed on pocket holes for table aprons. For that very reason I have a video on my channel on how to use a pocket hole jig as a dowel jig for building tables! I'd love to get your feedback on it. Great job as always, keep up the great work!
I realize I'm a bit late to the party, not having seen many of your videos - even this one is coming up on a year old, but there are so many great jigs. I'll definitely be checking out more videos. Much appreciated. Cheers!
the alternate ways shows you have experience and You are a real pro by coming up with so many ! You have a great delivery and are full of Ideas . Thank you for all your work !!
I think the biscuits and domino is a great alignment joint...I dont use them..cabinet maker for 35 years...but rock on T. Your a very smart lady...next generation.
Thank you for the video. Honestly, one reason I enjoy your channel is you don't over use pocket holes. I will go to to great lengths to avoid using pocket holes, the most over rated joinery in wood working imo.
Sold!! I want one too!! Horsing around with other joinery methods can be time-consuming and have the potential for mistakes. I bet you'll find all kinds of things to do with it. I look forward to seeing what's next.
I honestly can't decide if I have a woodworking hobby or if I just like UA-cam videos about woodworking. Either way I always look forward to your content!
The day I stop watching content because the creator bought a tool that I cannot afford, is the day that I give up on woodworking altogether. It's probably also a good day to evaluate my warped sense of life. :-) I love your channel and how you approach your projects.
I watch your vids so that I can learn. And with this new piece of equipment you have given me another method to complete projects. The information is appreciated.
Don't worry Tamar, we could never be mad at you. I used to get annoyed whenever I saw a UTuber using Festool equipment, but then I gave my head a shake and noted that I had a cabinet table saw, a couple of routers, bandsaw, etc., etc. There's lots of people out there who would wish to have what I have. I'm trying to appreciate what I have in my life instead of regretting what I don't. Don't worry about us: your loyal followers will be fine.
I have the 700xl and it is a great tool. I use for so many things that my big mortiser can’t do. I use it for shelves, doors, cabinet face frames including installing the face frame. I have used it for making drawers too. I may still use mortise and tenon when I want the joint to show.
While I have already decided that there will be a Domino in my future, I really liked your nails-in-wood system for marking dowel locations. I'll try that the next time I want to use dowels. Thanks!
No apologies needed! You are truly the greatest influence on my wood working. If you saw my conversational table with the bridle joint legs, you would know. Don’t go all “Woodpecker”? Eh, you’ll still be awesome 😎!
Don’t apologize. You have been making some of the coolest jig videos for a bit. You’ve earned your upgrade! Can’t wait to see the cool stuff you come up with next👍👍.
Woo can't wait to see what will you build with the domino, your projects are consistently the most unique and creative in all of my woodworking subscriptions!
That was simply the most hilarious, amazing and joyful advertisement for "7 reasons why I do not need domino (at least for now)" .. you are doing great stuff. Thank You!
What can I say that others haven't already I love your work arounds, and enjoy your videos. Don't worry about having a Domino joiner ,and I look forward to seeing you use it.

It appears as if it can also be disarmed with a cheap device that emits the very commonly used frequency their sensors use :/
Matthias Wendel built an amazing pantarouter to avoid buying a domino
I have the simpli safe for years now , i also use a garage camera inside and outside the garage entrance in addition to the garage door sensor. since you can add up to 9 cameras for the same monitoring monthly price. I buy the cameras when they go on sale at sams which seams to be the cheapest route. great videos and content
I died when you were rocking your Domino like a baby! Don't apologize for having one, this video is a great collection of alternatives.
😂😂😂😂 my new baby!!!
I almost died when it almost fell...lol
Ehh i feel like you should make another channel of you’re going out to use exotic tools. I feel like this channel was a minimalist channel now it’s not. Cool tool though
Your honesty and care in explaining, managing expectations etc... is quite remarkable. I believe that in this man dominated industry, I find it refreshing. Kind of similar in how a lot of managers are men and we re often missing out on this type or nurturing approach so thank you!
You shouldn’t apologize. You deserve to have great toys to use in your creations! You always provide great content, I am definitely a fan.
I don't care if you use a domino. Enjoy the fact you're successful enough that you can afford one! But I do appreciate you showing other options.
yup. of course i want one but i dont feel bad for others having stuff i dont have. i have only been into woodwork for a year so i cant expect to have everything already.
👍👍👍
People used to complain about New Yankee Workshop because Norm always used specialized tools or machines. But that’s why I liked the show.
You shouldn't have to apologize! I love the content!
Glad you like it!
I agree! I don't get all this being sorry for buying a tool that very relevant to your work. Let me check Amazon and see if it can fit my shop too aaaannd... sweet mother of Jesus, is it made of gold?? 😀

Agree 1000%
100% agree
Haha! Thanks for that!
Exactly! 100% agree. I am not here for tools, I want to know the thought process and learn. Doesn’t matter to me which tool is used.
I love the attitude about how you figure out how to work with what you have and encourage a problem solving attitude. Well done.
Thanks!
You have no idea how much you have helped me… Thanks so very much 😊
Awesome to hear! Thanks!
Tamara, your words alone are great inspiration, let alone your ideas to solve complex problems with relative simplicity are extraordinary. Thank you for all you have taught me.
I'm waiting for the patent to expire so I can get the Porter-Cable or the Bosch one.
There are several versions available, Dewalt and Makita are at Lowes and Home Depot I think, also Amazon.
@@gwbuilder5779 Or get a Ryobi or Triton off Amazon, they're cheaper.
@@a0flj0 Exactly. Plenty of options.
@@gwbuilder5779 I don't think any of those products actually make floating tenons though. They typically are some variation of biscuits or dowels.
Glad you’ll still watch. Ha
@@MosquitoMade - in a few years it will be CNC router...
- And now my budget is maxed for the RIGHT tool in the correct category (routers ,more routers, another router love that router!)
Please keep it up. Also think about a paypal link if you want one day as I would love to actually contribute to more of these videos!
Thanks so much! I have plans available to sale on my site ☺️☺️
Can't wait for all the "don't hate me" disclaimers every time you pull out the Domino for future projects. :)
Seriously, you've got a great attitude about this and woodworking in general so don't worry about the haters. :)
Haha! I can’t help myself! 😂😂 I will upgrade that saw one day! But for now, it works just fine 👍

Never heard it referred to as a "Domino". Oh, it's Festools name for their joiner.

One of the things I love about woodworking and DIY in general (electrical, mechanical, etc) is exactly the tools because I love tools, buttons, and machinery in general. 😊
You’re not alone there!
"We take ugly, rough pieces of lumber and we turn them into things that they're not supposed to be."

Very glad that you explained your philosophy behind getting tools to support your business. Many youtubers flaunt their tools expecting everyone to have them. And thanks for all the great dowel tips!
Glad you liked it. Thanks!
Keep up the good work. Don't ever apologize for growing as a wood worker or person. The haters will always hate.
Thanks so much! 👍👍
Awesome to hear! Thanks so much!
Would like to see you in a well insulated shop filled with festool and sawsafe.

So excited about it

Thanks again for not only reminding us about finding optional ways around a missing tool, but also giving us your insight in the how and why you use a particular tool and approach to different woodworking applications. One thing I would point out on using the spline though is the use of a plunge cut on each end and cutting the length so that the spline doesn't show on the end for pieces that would be visible such as in a divider or when edge joining two pieces together where there won't be banding around the outside edges. Always learn from watching your videos, Tamar. Thanks,

Haha thanks!
Haha! It’s all about figuring out a way that works for you using what you have!
I just came across this video and it was exactly what I needed. A quick summary and how to joints. I’m starting my woodworking journey and this is exactly the content I needed. Thanks.
Awesome.
For the dowel marking pins. Put the piece with the pins in flat on the bench and the piece of be marked on it's edge. Then your bench takes care of the alignment for you. I like your dowel jigs, that's pretty cool.
How could anyone get mad at you ?
Can’t wait to see you use this awesome tool and making awesome projects as you always do , good on ya for getting this tool it’s a great decision
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
Haha thanks!
Agreed!
You do you. Your videos are amazing and I have learned SO MUCH from you. Please keep up the amazing content no matter what tool you are using.
I’ll try my best! ☺️
Thank you! this video felt so genuine. Go ahead and use that festool! You deserve it.
Haha I will! 🤘🤘🤘
Router tables are awesome!
I think you have the best and honest youtube maker channel. great job, keep doing that. I love your style. thanks for sharing
Awesome to hear! Thanks!
Congrats on the FWW article! Agreed on pocket holes for table aprons. For that very reason I have a video on my channel on how to use a pocket hole jig as a dowel jig for building tables! I'd love to get your feedback on it. Great job as always, keep up the great work!
Thanks! I’ll have to check that out
@@3x3CustomTamar Thanks! Yes, please do! 👊
I realize I'm a bit late to the party, not having seen many of your videos - even this one is coming up on a year old, but there are so many great jigs. I'll definitely be checking out more videos. Much appreciated. Cheers!
Glad you appreciate it!
the alternate ways shows you have experience and You are a real pro by coming up with so many !
You have a great delivery and are full of Ideas . Thank you for all your work !!
When you don’t have the “right” tools you just have to come up with other ways!
Who could get mad at you? I love watching you work in the shop.
😂👍
I think the biscuits and domino is a great alignment joint...I dont use them..cabinet maker for 35 years...but rock on T. Your a very smart lady...next generation.
Thanks! 🤘🤘
Thank you for the video. Honestly, one reason I enjoy your channel is you don't over use pocket holes. I will go to to great lengths to avoid using pocket holes, the most over rated joinery in wood working imo.
Hahaa they have their place! I just don’t like that ppl think they are the solution to everything
Sold!! I want one too!! Horsing around with other joinery methods can be time-consuming and have the potential for mistakes. I bet you'll find all kinds of things to do with it. I look forward to seeing what's next.
I’m glad to put it to good use!
I honestly can't decide if I have a woodworking hobby or if I just like UA-cam videos about woodworking. Either way I always look forward to your content!
Ha! Glad you like them anyway!
The day I stop watching content because the creator bought a tool that I cannot afford, is the day that I give up on woodworking altogether. It's probably also a good day to evaluate my warped sense of life. :-)
I love your channel and how you approach your projects.
Hahaha glad to hear! Thanks!
I watch your vids so that I can learn. And with this new piece of equipment you have given me another method to complete projects. The information is appreciated.
Awesome to hear
Don't worry Tamar, we could never be mad at you. I used to get annoyed whenever I saw a UTuber using Festool equipment, but then I gave my head a shake and noted that I had a cabinet table saw, a couple of routers, bandsaw, etc., etc. There's lots of people out there who would wish to have what I have. I'm trying to appreciate what I have in my life instead of regretting what I don't. Don't worry about us: your loyal followers will be fine.
Sounds like you have a good set up! You have heat and air conditioning too? Ha
Thanks!
Yeah! It’s worked really well for me in the past.
No apologies needed! You are truly the greatest influence on my wood working. If you saw my conversational table with the bridle joint legs, you would know. Don’t go all “Woodpecker”? Eh, you’ll still be awesome 😎!
Hahaha awesome to hear!
Don’t apologize. You have been making some of the coolest jig videos for a bit. You’ve earned your upgrade! Can’t wait to see the cool stuff you come up with next👍👍.
Excited to put it to good use!
Coming to this channel late, but so impressed with Tamar and even the comment section. Awesome.
👍👍
Woo can't wait to see what will you build with the domino, your projects are consistently the most unique and creative in all of my woodworking subscriptions!
That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks!
That was simply the most hilarious, amazing and joyful advertisement for "7 reasons why I do not need domino (at least for now)" .. you are doing great stuff. Thank You!
👍👍
What can I say that others haven't already I love your work arounds, and enjoy your videos. Don't worry about having a Domino joiner ,and I look forward to seeing you use it.
👍👍
