It sounds like the "dynamagic" Jason is referring to is the Cadillac stiffening the magnetorheological shock at the outside rear tire (or both rear tires to simulate a stiffer anti-sway) to induce rotation at the limit. That trick would require sufficient weight on the nose of the car to pull it off.

The two long gear sets available in that trans is how tremec keeps the transmission in one piece. Tail rated shaft torque limit is 1450 ft lbs. Either 2.26 or 2.29 gear set x 650 ft lbs is technically over the limit not accounting for mechanical loss already. If you look at torque ratings of the TR6060 gear sets and torque limits are intertwined. At least the caddy and ZL1 have a 3.73 rear end to help low speed. Vettes have a 3.42 making tall gear problems worse. Supercharger isn’t clutched but the LT4 has 460lbs of torque at 1k rpm or 200 rpm off idle. It’s a torque monster.

I see the LF4 V6 as the main sticking point for properly celebrating the 4BW. My thing is, I have a disease where I can't leave cars stock. From experience a car with factory forced induction has a lot of headroom compared to naturally aspirated. Of course you can throw a blower on an LT small block. But the cost is far more than tuning the V6. The V6 is known to take 600+whp reliably and commonly now. An BlackWing 4 with downpipes and a tune will crack 500whp for maybe $1000. I think that would really change people's impression of this car and motor. A 7500rpm redline would be a game changer too. I bet you upgraded turbos would give you pull to an extended redline. Manuals already have titanium connecting rods and a stout bottom end.

What you received, branded as the Chevrolet SS, was the near ultimate version of our Commodore: 6.2L SSV. (Am not sure that you scored the supercharged variant.)

To be fair, GM did innovate in the 60s -- they made an affordable, all independent suspension, turbocharged Corvair, for example. And a V8, FWD Toronado and Eldorado. And had the best automatic transmissions and air conditioners. They did innovate, just not across the board.

I think GM and Cadillac were just innovative in an area -comfort- in which neither Hyphen nor Jason have any particular interest. Cadillac innovations of the 50s and 60s that I find noteworthy are Twilight sentinel (Autronic eye), Power steering 1951, dual circuit brakes 1962-63, climate control (not just ac)1964, cruise control and power "memory seats" 1957 on the Brougham, seeking fm am radio 64, telescopic tilt steering wheel 66.

E30 coding plug has to match the cylinder count. If you have a 4 cyl plug in a 6 cyl car, it multiplies the tach output by (4/6) like yours. Hence the 740 RPM looking like 500 at idle. I had the opposite problem, my 318is 4 cyl had a coding plug for a 6 cyl and multiplied the tach by (6/4). Coding plugs are cheap and easy to replace.

A Gen V LT1 in the ATS-V would have been a winner. The LF4 is fun tech, but being able to have a lightweight, compact and responsive V8 there would have been a blast especially for the sedan.
Sounds like a fun project, find an ATS-V or CT4-V with a blown LF4 and run a Gen V LT in its place 🤔

Maybe it's a Midwestern thing where American car enthusiasm is pretty strong, but I have thought that Cadillac did a reasonably good job in their attempts to pivot toward performance with the V branding. My dad has had two CTS-Vs and my gen Z daughter is obsessed with his current one and having one one day. Vs have been held back by Que, interior gripes, and internet hateraid, but they are also undeniably good and IMO do have presence and cool factor.

    • @memememine1
      @memememine1 2 роки тому +1

I think it's awesome that your daughter likes the CTS-V but I'm not sure if it's an indication of the mass appeal of the Cadillac brand. I'm also a gen Z. My friend owns a modified Gen 2 CTS-V. A powerful brutal highway car with an incredible engine. He thought that the ct4v black wing would be a smaller version of his car. But in reality it's focus is completely different. It took us getting a ride at Laguna seca to convince him it wasn't just a smaller version of his car. The rest of my friends don't even think of Cadillac or even GM. I almost bought an ATS-V but the gauge cluster and the engine were awful. I bought an SS 1le instead. All of my friends were confused of my purchase and kind of made fun of me untill I could keep up with their light weight modified cars around an autocross and smoke them around a track. GM performance cars are incredible but nobody knows about it. For example even the most hardcore euro or JDM fan probably has a fairly realistic idea of what a corvette hellcat or mustang is and what they can do. But take like an SS 1le or a ct4v black wing. Most people think it's gonna have bad brakes a squishy rolly ride and either be a straight line drag car or this brutish muscle car when in reality both are excellent balanced track cars.

@@memememine1 totally agree that my anecdote is thin and that GM, particularly Alpha platform cars do not get the credit they deserve. Some of that is our fault, being brand snobs and hating on everything on the internet, and some of that is GMs fault, as they can be exceptionally good at shooting themselves it the foot in idiotic ways - that ATS gauge cluster is a good example, just atrocious. Congrats on the SS, super sweet car. I have a Fiesta ST, so im used to the, "no, it's actually really good..." conversation. 😆

I have a custom E30 without doors or a top that I just pasted 18 years with. I have a 1949 Ford that my dad got me when I was 14 25 years ago that I drove when I was 14, on a private road of course, but haven't driven since because I started a project to but a Mustang Cobra 5.0 engine and trans and a C4 Corvette superior in it but then got very sick for over a decade which involved 24 surgeries and dying twice so it got put on the back burner. I have a couple other cars I've had for over 15 years but the one that has been in my life for 34 of my 39 years and my dad gave it to me when I was in my early 20s then he passed away when I was in my early 30s so it's becoming another reminder of him is a 1959 Austin Healey Bugeye. I will never part with it. It helps that's it's a ton of fun! My dad had a FB RX7 rotary put in it in the late 80s and I'm in the process of putting a newer and more powerful 13B rotary in it because what everything 1100 lb car needs is 300 hp and a 10k rpm redline!!!

My first car would do 60 in first gear, and about 104 in the quarter mile.😁
    1971 Torino GT, 351 Cleveland 4v, 4spd.
Learned to drive the 4spd, two weeks after turning 16, on the 60 mile trip home from the dealer in Eugene Oregon, to Florence Oregon on a Beautiful summer day in August of 1977!
Karma was kind to me that day, as when I was driving home, I saw my ex-girlfriend and her cousin, standing by his car parked on the side of the road. Of Course I had to stop!
She dumped me because I lived too far away from her.
Man that sounded so great when down-shifting as I drove up next to them.
Felt even better when I left and lit up the tires! 😁
Oh to be young and stupid, and lucky!
The same night I got the car I was racing a friend of mine.
I asked him how fast I was going when I started to leave him behind. I couldn't tell as my Speedo was buried in the dashboard! He said I pulled from him at about 143 mph. He had a 160 Speedo. Who knows how accurate it was! 😁
I went a bit faster, but the front end started getting floaty, so I shut it down. First time experiencing that and luckily even my 16 year old brain decided to slow down.
Had a lot of "Firsts”, thanks to that car!😏
Only had the car for about 2 years and regret selling it to buy a 1972 Chevelle Malibu 350, 4spd.
Torino was a beast, had all 4 wheels off the ground twice.
Second time landing on the beefy frame skid plate, knocked the rear view mirror off the windshield. Who says Torino's can't fly! 😁
For fun now, I have a 1995 Cadillac Seville STS. That Northstar sounds Sweet when you get up on the cams and give it a good Italian tune up! 👍
Would love to drive a Blackwing.
    Mike in San Diego. 🌞🎸🚀🖖

I have loved all the Cadillac performance cars since the 2000s (including XLR -whatever is said about the drivetrain, it was a damn nice looking car) but these black wings are unobtainium...they aren't available and when they are the ADR is insane...the CT4V-BW is great at sticker...after 25-40k markup it's no longer affordable for the guy that wanted it...but it is for those who want to add to a collection...
I am now just looking for a decent used CTSV or something...it still OP for what it is given the current market but it atleast has no insane ADR

I think Cadillac's direction is clearer with their transition to EVs. Looms like they're going for real luxury again. When/if we see a Blackwing EV?? My guess is at least another generation or two of Ultium before the tradeoff between battery density, range, and weight is there but I have no insight.

I owned new a SS 1le and it seems like the Camaro would be slightly better at handling from what he's saying. It does do that dymagic thing. Also the engine I didn't like the lt1 all that much but it's def better than the ct4v v6. My main issue is at high speeds the lack of top end power combined with the SS 1les high drag and wide ratios means you hit 4th and it feels like you stop accelerating. Another downside with the Camaro is the interior is tiny. That would be fine except it's a big car on the outside, so you get all the drawbacks and none of the advantages. I would personally take the ct4v blackwing.
