For me, the scariest thing about this game is the phrase: "this time with friends"...
i'll be going single-player cause i have literally no friends but one who doesn't like scary games
I don't think that it aims for the multiplayer mode here. Most likely we will have some companions to help or maybe even protect us from other people/monsters, which would be awesome since the main character probably won't give us the satisfaction to fight back our pursuers (although I hope that we can to some extent, like maybe outsmarting and tricking a bigger opponent into his death..) I can only hope for the best! And it also looks like we might not need the camera anymore....
And judging by the fact that it takes place during the Cold War, our character might (I'm using this word a lot, I know) be a soldier.......
In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Philippe Morin mentioned that the Cold War era was chosen as a setting in order to flesh out the mythology behind the games by revisiting Project MKUltra at its height. Morin also described the multiplayer as "...flexible, so that people can play it in any way they want" and noted that the co-op mode will have segments where players will find themselves separated from one another: "Stuff will happen, shit will hit the fan and soon you may find yourself separated from the group."
if it's really does have a multiplayer one, it'd be stupid to see all those player's running around

We know that it is just a game, and even though some of the things in it's world are inspired by real life events, such as the MKULTRA program and Project Paperclip, we are still aware of the fictional nature of the franchise. We enjoy exploring these dark things in a safe and non-real enviroment. And there is nothing wrong with that. The only fans that are twisted individuals are those who either defend the Murkoff Corporation's actions from a real life prespective and those who get turned on by Eddie Gluskin (this one is more of a joke).

I know I’m late but I’m pretty sure the game will be sorta based around project mkultra which was a series of human experiments conducted by the cia. They were trying to control people’s minds and basically tortured innocent people who had no idea what was going on. Pretty interesting.

Anthony Walker it’s a long explanation but if you look it up the story is explained . Pretty much the whole town in Outlast 2 was an experiment from Murrcoff like in the first game. That bright beam in the sky was them causing the people of the town to have hallucinations and dream like stages which caused them to go crazy about the whole anti christ thing. The religious part of the game was all a hallucination. If you watch videos they also explain why you have the school hallucinations and how Lynn’s baby wasn’t even real and it was a phantom baby like was said in a document in the whistleblower Dlc. It sounds confusing but I recommend everyone that’s played that game to watch a vid about the ending explanation.

compared to that, no other torture scene came close to making me grab my balls
{THEORY} Outlast Trials will take place in the late 1950s and early 1960s (1958-1962)
Reasons:
1. The song that is playing in the teaser is from 1958, on a record player theoretically from the same time. Which makes me believe that the story of Outlast Trials will take place in that period.
2. The goal of the scientists in this teaser is to create '' Super-Humans '', unlike Dr. Wernick, who wanted to separate the mind from the body with the Walrider Project. The story of Outlast Trials will take place during the Cold War, which dates back to the MK-Ultra Project. The MK-Ultra Project consisted of making tests on human beings so that they become super soldiers. The teaser suggests that scientists wanted patients to have night vision. That was the goal of scientists at that time: to create superhumans. Detail: The MK-Ultra conspiracy theory supposedly happened in the early 1950s and ended in the early 1960s.
3. Similarities. In an image published by Red Barrels ( @t ) we saw a vehicle in the right corner, which looks like pickup trucks from the 50s and 60s.
4. Documents throughout Outlast + DLC show events that revolve around the 50s and 60s.
Documents that mention the 50's and 60's: '' Lesser Known Ecological Aspects of Humanity (DLC) '', '' MKULTRA CIA Hypnotic Homicide (Outlast) '' and '' God and Family (DLC) ''.
In the document '' God and Family '' it shows the presence of Dr. Bruce Newhouse around the 50s and 60s at Mount Massive Hospital. Dr. Newhouse was employed in 1958-1965 (in the late 1950s and early 1960s). Based on my theory that the story of Outlast Trials will take place between the 50s and 60s, it will be this scientist who implanted night vision in the patient is the DR. NEWHOUSE?
Anyway, this is just a hypothesis.

100% agree man. I thought to myself too that it can only be 1950 somewhere or 1960 somewhere cause MKULTRA was stopped in 1972. If the developers doesn't go that way with timeline then it must be a secret undected way to test the project. Like if they go 1980 which I highly doubt then it would be a scenario of testing the project secretly but I 100% agree with you. Game can only take place between 1950 till 1969 before 70s. You deserve more likes on this comment, its a good touch of detail you gave here.
The description also mentions that it takes place at some point during the cold war from 1947 to 1991, so I'd be inclined to agree with you.

I have such a love hate relationship with the Outlast games. The scares, the brutality, the heaviest atmosphere ever in gaming, it's so unnerving yet immersive and overall well done. I'm talking about watching, of course. I could never play these games.
