I was just at the rusty ships today and I ate at the same place for lunch! I’ll be continuing my solo trip to Khiva tomorrow. My experience in Uzbekistan is totally different though because I don’t get special vlogger access to certain places and I don’t have a guide😐 But I’m still loving it, although it’s a bit difficult with language barrier sometimes.

Thanks for the opportunity to visit such an interesting, less obvious place! It's so much fun to live vicariously through your travel videos, I love how they're not just "Here's what we did on vacation" videos, it's not about promoting some resort in the Maldives and stuff like that, which there is an abundance of already! We get to learn about these places, the nature and the culture, it's really great teaching about world history and human diversity! You're making the world feel smaller at a time where we most need people to realize that humanity is a community, and that we all need to take care of our collective home, the pale blue dot! Cheers from Canada! xxx

It's extremely sad. In 1985 I went on a school trip with my classmates from the American school in then-West Berlin across the USSR. My two favorite locations we went to on our 15 day cross country odyssey were in your previous videos on Bukhara and Samarkand. It was great to see those places with you guys again. I fell in love as a Senior in High School with Central Asia (and it was early Feb with snow on the ground and very cold!).
Anyway, flying back from Tashkent, which we went to for the flight to Kiev, we flew over the Aral Sea. I was excited to see one of the world's great bodies of water, looking much the same as the 1989 satellite photo you showed. I'm glad I had that opportunity when I did, because it will never happen again. Thanks, guys!

humbling...and a lesson...we did the same mistake.... with how we tried to "tame" the Colorado river....and the Columbia river...altering forever vast parts of our country and forever altering and damaging those regions for, the even on a human time frame, benefit of the few for a brief period with consequences lasting far into the future...so short sighted.
    Great series. Thanks.

Hi from Kazakhstan! You should come visit. Yes, what happened to Aral Sea is terrible. When I was in school, I used to look at the map, and Aral Sea was big, yet smaller than before. At the time, that was strange. Then it got smaller and smaller. Now it's just painful to look at. It lies between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and people here talk about ways to improve the situation, but it seems that it's too late. I hope not

      Not really.
It's estimated that if the river water that feeds the cotton crops (why even do that in the first place in a arid area when you have vast areas of green not used. USSR and Uzbekistan Logic.) was released, it would make the Aral sea go back to its 1960s levels in less than 20 years.
It's about the money of cotton crops for those politicians being more important than the once 4th biggest lake in the world.

Awesome video, guys!!!! I'll have to make a trip out there one of these days as I LOVE visiting places least often traveled. It's sad that the Aral Sea is shrinking more and more as the countries who own parts of it aren't doing anything to conserve it. I wonder what's going to happen to Uzbekistan's cotton economy when all the water is not there? It's no wonder why more of the citizens are using tourism to replace a dying economy. Also, I wonder if the government is going to do anything about cleaning up the sea? I noticed the Dead Sea is facing similar issues as it continues to dry up and become smaller.

Very educational video! It is truly sad to see the Aral Sea, which was once one of the largest lakes in the world, dying and getting smaller every year....all because of human misuse

Sad to see how destructive we are and that we are not learning from our mistakes. Very unique place to see!

Loved this series. You are right- I would have never thought to visit there before. Honestly, I still probably won't. :) So it was cool to see your experience with it.
