    Well that was a treat for Visitors to Hampton Court. Such a great idea to hold this event & it'll be an annual thing too. A very good way to keep attracting new people & being young people, this will be the Bandsmen of the future, all with a good grounding in Military Bands & the Discipline to deliver. There's lots of non Military opportunities too & it's good to see young Brits embracing that option as well. I'm not a fan of the Cheer Leaders I must say, for me it's about the Music & Cheer Leaders are just an annoying distraction, all a matter of personal taste of course. Another Great video from Mr Baton's "..And Now For Something Different" Category. Thanks Mr B!

    Well done to Medina Marching Band! Have friends on the Isle of Wight so happy for their small Island to be represented! How brilliant were the young drummers! Great effort! Will pass the link of this video to my pals.

    Thank you to young people of University of Tennessee for attending the event. Long journey for you all and you did perform beautifully.

    Stunning backdrop. Dont envy those that gotta trim all them trees/bushes tho. Really diverse selection of bands here. Nice to see so many kids and tackers into creating marching music. Future drum majors and musicians in there no doubt. Hope all the young tennesseans enjoyed their stay in the uk as well as 4th july celebs. Hope they had plenty of hot dogs supplied for the occasion.

    I'm not normally a fan of the University of Tennessee, but they did a great job! And I could hear people in the crowd singing Rocky Top!

    Great job by all the bands! I am so proud of the University of Tennessee band. I'm sure some people don't understand what a college marching band is and all the showmanship that goes into each performance. I would think they knew what they were getting when they invited you here, twirlers and all. Good thing those cheerleaders didn't come over some would have been appalled by their uniforms I'm sure.

    Tastes vary but personally I’m not keen on US style prancing bands.

      Me either. I want any differences to be in the arrangement of the Music, not who can twirl a staff higher or do the Splits lower.

      I'm American, and I have to agree. The marching band genre in the US is heavily influenced by the high school/college bands that are part of their respective sports programs.

      @@christopherreed4723 There's nothing wrong with that style of Marching Band but it's followers can't point at the Military Bands & say you're not real Marching Bands, because you don't memorise your Music, you don't have Drum Majors/Majorettes who use the Baton/Staff/Mace as an extension of the Entertainment, you don't have Cheer Leaders in Costumes that look like they came out of a Circus Wardrobe & you don't create a dazzling Show. No we do none of those things, we have Bandsmen who are able to play an unlimited Repertoire of Music, spanning back 500 years or more, right up to the Current Top 20 Hits, because they are able to read properly arranged Sheet Music, they aren't limited to a handful of Marches they've Memorised. We have Drum Majors who use their Staffs for the purpose they carry them for, to Direct the Bandsmen, instead of blowing whistles at them, they are not Dogs. The only vocal directions in both Military & Civilian Bands are made before the Band Marches off so everyone knows the Tempo, how to start Marching, so the entire Band is in unison, especially in the Military Bands, the Military insists on its Bands Marching as well as its Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen, who are all Drilled to March in Unison. The impression they project is that of a well oiled Machine, you really don't want to mess with a Group that are so Connected with each other. Most people who follow the Bands, do so out of Love for the Music & for the Discipline & Precision of the Marching. They aren't interested in a Cabaret act. They don't take kindly to their Bands being belittled by people who disrespect the amount of Work these Bands do & how talented they are, because they are different to what they think is right. The British will appreciate the American Bands for their performance & they will appreciate the British Armed Forces Bands & they will appreciate the Civilian Bands, for what they are, they won't say one is better than the other all they will agree on is that they are all different. You can't compare them against each other & all of them have those who Champion their Style. Just as there's different Styles of Music, there's different Styles of Marching Bands, but just as you can't compare a Philharmonic Orchestra to The Rolling Stones, you can't compare the Different Styles of Marching Bands to each other.

    Not keen on the American raz ma taz. If we are going to have music let it be presented by top class bands like the Royal Marines who are the very best at music presentation.

      You wouldn’t have any top class bands if it wasn’t for bands like these for people to start their musical journey in

      @@callumblair7773 I disagree. I can't see how having Cheer Leaders improves a Band. If you're going to be in a Band, you need to be a Musician first & foremost, not the sound track for a bunch of people jumping around. If this is your idea of a Top Class Band, then it might be for you or your Country, it certainly isn't for most of the World. Top Class Brass or Marching Bands in my opinion, can be ranked in this order; The Music, The Arrangement, The Musician's playing of the Music, The Precision of the Marching & The Overall Look of the Unit. If I wanted Dancing, I'd go to the Ballet.

      @@vickyRoyalHistory the initial comment I was replying to indicated that there should only be bands like the Royal Marines playing, I was mostly defending the youth bands like Medina and Brentwood there. I wasn’t a fan of the American band either

    • @vickyRoyalHistory
      @vickyRoyalHistory Рік тому

      @@callumblair7773 I think the person making the Comparison, used the Royal Marine Band of the CTC as an example of a Marching Band as opposed to the Style of the American Band. The British Bands do concentrate on the Music & Drill rather than the Razzle Dazzle of the Americans. Most often now in the UK, Marching Bands are part of the Military, with the Fall of the Coal Mining Industry, came the loss of the Brilliant Colliery Bands. There are still some excellent non-Military Bands out there, but nothing like the number there were & nothing like the Public exposure the Colliery & Village Bands of the time enjoyed. Military Bands are an extension of the Discipline & Precision the Armed Forces train their personnel to have & they also have Musical Schools to bring young Musicians through. It's the combination of the Military & the Musical that sets them apart from even the very good non-Military Bands. On leaving the British Armed Forces, any Musician can look at a Professional Music Career their training is so good. It's all about the Music, not the Showmanship.

    There is something almost comical about the University of Tenn Band and the outfits worn by their baton twirlers. And the outfit worn by the drum major borders on the ridiculous. They are very good at what they do but I don't care much for what they do. They certainly did not play a selection that was challenging. I am an American musician and have seen many such university bands. I would not have joined such a band in my university days. Too silly for me. Meanwhile. I love the Brentwood and Medina Bands and hope their youth musicians continue their studies and participation for many years to come.
