Tactically speaking, the best lessons I've learned from many, many failed invasions are, in no particular order: (1) get familiar with the most popular invasion areas (Farum Azula, etc); (2) separate your opponents, e.g. elevators; (3) learn to alternate between locked and unlocked targeting; (4) don't do the thing they want you to do (h/t St. Riot), e.g. spawning in and seeing the host down a hall that opens up into a larger room with corners the better for his teammates to ambush you from. But most importantly, accept the fact that you're probably going to lose. A lot. The odds are heavily stacked against you as an invader. Your opponents likely are packing EZ-cheese weapons and spells that do not inflict friendly fire, and they outnumber you at least 2-to-1. If you watch unedited streams of the very best players, they still lose quite a bit. Invasions are very difficult by design.
Yeah, not doing what they want you to do has become a central point in what equipment I decide to bring, too. If I can meet the intelligence requirement for Night Maiden's Mist or I have the means to cause explosions that hit them through walls, I'm going to use those things as ways to force them to either confront me or get whittled down until they're dead. The Hand Ballista and Jar Cannon/Rabbath's Cannon (now with the DLC) are also amazing tools for strength characters. Also, having a way to make them stop chasing you for just few seconds goes a long way. At the time of posting I love Milady's standing heavy. Comes out too fast for most people to react to you just stopping and hitting them with it.
For low level i wouldn’t even worry about dumping stat points into a damage stat, I would just meet the requirements of whatever you want to use and put the rest of the points into health and endurance. The scaling on weapons in this game doesn’t make it worth it until you’re at +18 +7 at the least. As far as stats go for 138 your build is as perfect as it gets for a dex build, only thing I do is take one point out of endurance and put it into strength so I have 20 strength
Good information to share! On my low level builds I typically just get stats to wield whatever weapons I’m trying to run (within reason. Dump the rest into VIG/END
@@miguelnascimento2847 for pve it’s slightly different because you can potentially get a +9 somber weapon a couple hours after starting a play-through so you could just dump all your points into damage stats and be a glass cannon
Yo great tips my guy! Great to see someone coming forward and making content for newcomers, this is what we need more of My extra tips would be: • Assume you're not winning a 3v1 in an open field, 2v1 is sometimes manageable, and a 3v1 CAN happen, but assume you won't - have an escape plan • When being chased down, don't panic roll, if they're close to you (while on a chase) do the "turn and burn", hit them with a quick R1 to get them off you • While baiting them to come closer, don't get too close, most casuals nowadays know too well when an invader is in "range" to push with his overleveled buddies and melt you while you're trying to run away • Know, or take your time to know/study the "scrub" weaponry/spells This means the weapons that have the lowest skill floor but have the highest reward: Moonveil, RoV, Blasphemous Blade, Bolt of Gransax, Star Shower, double Naginatas, Moghs Spear etc etc... Learn them, and act accordingly, most people that abuse said gear play the same, and will make the same mistakes, but one mistake from you is all they need to kill you; don't take your eyes off of the Moonveil spammer, keep your range from the RoV scrub, don't panic roll Bolt of Gransax until the animation is about to launch it
Always enjoy seeing videos like this. When I first started getting into PvP I always found it odd how there wasn’t that many guide / tips videos for inspiring invaders, or just PvP in general. Thankfully that seems to be changing a bit recently, at least to me. In regards to hardswapping & inventory management, I found it easier to get used to HSing by having my “main” weapon in the middle of the weapon’s inventory and 4 of my most used weapons around it in the 4 directions of the D-Pad. Then, as you get better, you can continue to organize them in ways that almost make hard swapping mindless. Same for talismans. Apologies if something like this was already said and I just missed it lol.
Really nice idea. Most people are casuals just enjoying the game and could use some advice. Although I follow one unspoken rule: If the host is just being nice, I usually leave them alone haha
If the host is nice and actually trying to fight me and progress through the level, he gets a bow and a message from me saying "ggs bru!" Or something Similar If he's being clearly a scrub who watches those "most OP build in ELDEN RING!!" he maybe gets a wave, guard spam or nothing; and if he was being HELLA toxic with his overleveled buddies he gets a point down, bag and also gets a message saying "that's what u get buddy, go back to horizon" or similar The salt that follows is insane
Unspoken rules and obligatory emotes are as cringe as “honor”. There’s no strategic advantage in emoting, therefore it’s a waste of time. Perhaps there could be some use in point downs and shit pots in victory, to destroy the opponents morale. However, that aside there’s no point.
I started a new character and been playing with taunter's tongue on getting invaded non-stop. It's fun way to play if you enjoy pvp. What i've noticed most invaders do is run in and open with their weapon arts leaving 'em open for easy parries/backstabs. If your gimmick is your strongly buffed weapon art then do not open with it. Learn to poke in with fast attacks and when your opponents learns to dodge 'em you go for your strong moves throwing their roll timing off usually finishing 'em because of the little lowered hp from pokes.
Pro tip with the jar cannon, stats aren't necessary for it. It can still knock people off their feet using explosive or lightning bolts and thats death near free falls. If the host and their phantoms are gonna camp pestering them with cannon will usually make them flush out theor hideyhole, usually, even if the damage is negligible.
This is true! You can fire the cannon just fine without the stats to knock other players around. However the trade off is about 200-300 damage but it’s still good to know for certain situations
Also listen to Saint Riot. Target the summons first when you do this. They have less supplies to work with, just like you. Even if it's a level 300 guy, he's got half estus.
What an amazing video, unfortunate that it doesn't have more than 1.8k views. If you keep putting out content of this quality I'm sure your 117 subscriber count will skyrocket :D
I don't really invade much, because i prefer playing as a sunbro to help people. But I think a good tip for invaders, or really anyone doing pvp, is to practice by dueling in the arena. It helps with learning fundamentals like spacing, movement, whiff punishing, etc. And once one is good enough to comfortably 1v1 other players, especially golden combatants in the arena, they'll likely be better at invading. I've noticed a good number of hosts will die on their own to pve as well, as alot of them are just PVEers. So it might be helpful to use pve as kind of a pseudo co-invader if possible.
I would also recommend using the Taunter’s tongue when solo. It’s another opportunity to 1v1 an invader and get some experience in. Both are good ways for newer players to dip their toes into pvp
I think its similar to learning a guitar. Like trying to move your fingers in a certain way that's different than what your used to, like hard swapping, or backstabbing with quickstep. I also see it like that movie with Tom Cruise Edge of Tomorrow. Just keep invading and dying with the mindset you'll get one step closer every time.
One thing you have to accept is with so many low level hosts just waiting to gank with overleveled phantoms with cancer builds, you are bound to run into a bad time somewhat often. You pretty much have to be ready for the bullshit and sometimes just beeline it just for the host because their phantoms ignore 50% of your damage.
know when to pull back and know how much health you have, keep all three host/phantoms in view, constantly move, cycle weapons to mix it up, use the environment. the most important is knowing when to be passive and then come back to aggressive, learn also how to bait an attack by being slightly out of range and use the block button to pivot 180 degrees without doing that stupid sliding stop animation. good luck, i invade all the time at 168 in leyndall and rarely lose to 3 man squads.
Granted I've almost exclusively played Elden Ring in singleplayer (and for some reason never been invaded), I do find it fun to drop by the colosseums every once in a while. The hardswapping aspect is hard no for me though. I find it really weird and wished there could have been some slightly more sexy ways to change gear on the fly in this game.
#1 just relax and have fun with it. Too many obsessive degens sapping the fun out of the game. People take “winning” at invasions way too seriously when you don’t actually anything of value.
It’s fun to win, with an optimal build and superior understanding of pvp tech, your win rate will go up significantly. There isn’t anything degenerative simply using in game mechanics to its full potential. The feeling of logging off after a full day of exerting dominance on Elden Ring is better than human intercourse.
how do you approach poise, do you stack just enough to hyperarmor trade with your greatsword(s) or would you recommend stacking above 89 to passive poise through light weapon backswings? Edit: nevermind, I commented before finishing the vid lmao
For a dex build the optimal starting class is the vagabond. I see you started with the samurai and that choice cost you 1 level wich could have been put into strength to use the greatbow wich is a better ranged option than the jar cannon if you can get golem arrows. Don't take ER's starting classes as gospel for the build you want to play, it has been a staple in souls games for them to put starting classes for all build types and most of them will not be optimal for the build they seem to be. In DS3 you had only 2 viable starting classes, the Knight for dex,str and quality and the Pyromancer for faith and int. In ER there are a few more choices (the Vagabond is the best class for dex, str and quality, Hero for arcane, Prophet for faith and either Astrologer or Prisoner, I can't remember wich, for int builds) Edit: also worth noting that while at meta levels you dump points into all the stats you want to use for the build at low levels you should dump all your points into vigor until you reach at least 45 since vigor is objectively more valuable than any other stat. Points in damage stats should only be accounted for high upgrade weapons at high levels, at low levels level those up only to reach the requirements of whatever weapons you want to use
This character is actually the first one I made when ER released. I chose samurai for the Uchigatana lol. You’re right though I typically pick vagabond now
If I can't win with that I have equipped then I dont deserve to win. Hard swapping is extremely difficult when when pressure on the invader is tight. I personally don't give invaders time enough to swap.
I understand your mentality but it's flawed, some matchups are straight counters so you should try and swap to something to deal with your encounter. Pvp is alot about adaptation and knowing what to use in certain situations. I suck at hardswapping under pressure but you can see lots of people hardswapping in less than a 1 sec window
