    A cold towel or washcloth is good after you shave.... It closes your pores after shaving your head. It helps to put a hot towel or washcloth before you start as well....

      I use a hot cloth b4, then afterwards I shower so that I can wash my head, but I then run as cool as I can stand it over my head, after I’m out & my head air dries I use the post shave balm by van der hagen, & gelet shave gel! I don’t shave it all year round just @ the beginning of spring & through the summer months! This yr will be my 3rd yr doin so! So some helpful hints or maybe some constructive criticism would be good! Rude or assholish criticism I won’t care 4! I luv 2 shave my head so any kind of HELPFUL ideas would be great on different kinds of products 2 use!

    Fortunately my father and I have good genes in the matter of hair, he's 60 and his hair is still jet black (almost no silver hairs at all), thick and has no balding patterns yet, and thankfully he passed me those genes. However, for the sake of a video I did recently, I decided to shave my head bald. And you know what? I love it: shaving my head is as relaxing as those mini Zen gardens; I feel much more fresh now and I get to sport cool hats; I see myself younger and taller, and also people don't address me like a child anymore, they address me respectfully like an adult man. Thank you for sharing these helpful tips and tricks, I've been _bald_ only for a week now, but I already agree with you: tried the double mirror thing, it's just easier to master the Touch-Approach. Regards from México!

    I use head slick from the company Headblade as a pre shave for added slickness and then use whatever soap and brush from my collection that I am in the mood for. I have been shaving my head for over a month now and I love it. I had an advantage since I have been DE shaving now for 3 years. Two days ago, I grabbed my R41 instead of my R89 and needless to say, I didn't figure out what was going wrong until after the fact. Had I known what I grabbed, it wouldn't have been a problem.

    Thanks so much for this. For the past couple of months, I was paying a barber to do it, but I eventually thought that was silly and that I should do it myself. I watched your video and a few others, which gave me the courage to try it. It was a bit scary at first but I've managed to do a great job! And I haven't cut or nicked myself yet, even with a Feather blade. Now I shave my head every couple of days or so and keep it looking great.

    Interesting and informative video, TCS. Regarding head wounds and bleeding, I think that's mainly got to do with pressure. Skin on your head is of course stretched over bone (the skull) pretty much directly, which goes to say that there is little to no tissue seperating the skin from the skull. This results in relatively high pressure, which will in turn result in head wounds bleeding profusely as well as head wounds being generated easily in sports such as boxing and football/soccer, where a slight bump may cause the skin to burst open.

    I've been shaving my head since I was 17 due to sports and then later on. The military. Here's the one trick nobody knows except for hardcore shavers and people in the medical field. Disinfect your blade after each use. Hot water and soap is not sufficient to kill germs and can damage your razor with rust. Your blade won't turn orange if you leave out your razor to dry in your bathroom once or three times but the microscopic beads of water left on the bevel of the blade can cause havoc on shaving. To disinfect your blade and prevent rust. Take 70% isopropyl alcohol and pour some in a cup. DO NOT USE 91% or greater alcohol. Any cup. It doesn't matter. My favorite is a standard red party cup. Soak your blade in it. Doesn't matter if you use cartridge or a DE blade. You have 2 choices at this point. Leave it for 2 minutes and take it out, or you can leave it soaking until it's time to use it again. If you have a cartridge razor, it will obliterate the moisterizing strip, But that's okay. You should be using a high quality shave soap, gel, or foam anyways if you are going to be taking a razor to your head. Disinfecting your blade solves almost 80% of irritation, ingrowns, and infections. If you want be OCD about it, you can use the 70% isopropyl alcohol as an aftershave to fully disinfect your head AFTER you've shaven. Your head will be dryer than a raisin but that's why you buy a good moisterizer. You always moisterize after shave. Everybody knows that. I shave my head daily as it's part of my routine and haven't had discomfort or burns in years.

      That’s an awesome tip. Thanks. I’ve tried DE shaving a few times before but I was ignorant about the whole thing and went the cheapo route. After many years of buzz cuts and shaving my head with the usual cartridge razors, I’m finally ready to dive head first into the world of DE wet shaving. I’ll be taking your advice about disinfecting my blades for sure. Thanks again.

    Cuts on your head tend to bleed more because the skin is thinner and the blood capilaries are very close to the surface of the skin to help regulate body temperature. You loose the majority of your body temperature from your head because of this, hence why most new head shavers fibd themselves feeling the cold so much for the first few weeks. Hope that helps Scott, another excellent video keep them coming brother!

    Great video, Mr. Scott. The timing is right, since I'm thinking on shaving my head today or someday next week. Been wanting for a while. I've also heard putting a towel wet with hot water on it makes for an easier shave, since it opens up the follicles or something. Don't worry, I know about the cold and the sunburns.

    If you get a chance to try them, L and L Grooming post shave linament is really amazing. I have a Mohawk with tattoos on the side which is the only reason I shave my head. I sometimes let it go quite a while between shaves and if I wait a while I absolutely have to do a two pass shave but when it's short I do one pass ATG too. Because I have the Mohawk, I like to keep the edges really clean and I have to have a mirror, so I have a wall mounted extendable arm adjustable mirror that's pretty priceless but was relatively cheap. Much props to you for being able to do your had without a mirror. Also, for anyone else who might be new to head shaving, the de razor is really the way to go. Cartridges clog so easy and cost so much money. I used to have to use clippers between shaves and now I don't. And there's a blade in both sides, so if it does get clogged up just flip it over and keep going. Half as much time taken of your shave routine by that alone.

    Thanks for the video, was some good tips. I'm still learning how to do this without my head getting super sore, or the whole shaving routine taking forever. I end up just buzzing it without a guard instead, which is easier but doesn't look as good, imo.
    I think the reason it bleeds more easily on the head is because the heart has to pump the blood extra hard/fast in the upwards direction, to defy gravity, and we even have extra big veins (arteries) in the neck to help with that. So like basically there's higher blood pressure in all the veins on the head, so blood comes out faster there when cut or otherwise injured. I dunno why it stings more there, some say they're less sensitive there, others say they're more sensitive. So that's probably just individual.

    Blood flow to hair follicles, there is more blood vessels on your scalp because of all of the hair even if you might not have much up there the blood vessels are still there and I’d just assume your scalp is thinner so it’d bleed more

    Very important for begginers: before going out, put some sunblock cream on your head. It doesn't matter if you live in a cold/cloudy area: UV light will do its work and now you don't have hair to protect you. After two weeks or so, you can stop using sunblock.
    The first time I shaved my head, I got real nasty sunburns all over my skull (I live near the coast). You don't want that, believe me...

    Thanks for the tips! I am terrified of using single blade razors tho!!! I've found multi blade cartridges work fine for me. My only issue is that my head has more, let's call it, "dynamic topography" lol so i always struggle shaving around the bony/bumpy parts. But you're right about not aiming for BBS, I think it's unrealistic to expect those results every time, as nice as that would be.

  • @jeffe6928

    Head wounds bleed more because you're dealing with lots of capillaries (20% of your bloodflow is needed to feed the brain compared to the rest of the body). Because of the lack of tissue between the scalp skin (which itself is very thick) and the skull itself you don't have much room for larger blood vessels so the cappilary coverage is more dense. The good thing is that cappilary blood usually clots quickly so while you'll bleed a lot for a short time unless there are contaminants or an infection the wound will clot quickly.

    Head wounds sting like crazy because you have extra nerve endings around your brain dome area.
    It bleeds more than you'd expect because said braid dome area requires bloodenated oxygen to do cool things like be alive and function.
    You helped me shave, I helped you bastardize anatomy. Thank you, and you're welcome!

      and bastardize anatomy you did. why would you go around spreading misinformation like that?
      yes the scalp has a fuckton of blood vessels but literally none of them supply oxygenated blood to the brain since that would literally be the most retarded thing ever. "Hit your head and popped a surface blood vessel? Whoops guess part of your brain isn't being supplied with blood anymore and you're losing brain tissue by the second."
      Now guess which part of the body the blood vessels in the scalp supply. That's right: *the fucking scalp*

    Braun electric razor for my entire head! Use beard trimmer alone and/or use screen to take it all the way down. Helps to have 2 razors fully charged. Use same model in each hand for speed! Have High Time "Bump Stopper Plus" ready after shower.

    I have been shaving my head for about 20+ years. I used a cartridge razor (like a coward) for years and switched to a double edge about 5 years ago. I found that, since you cannot see the back of your head while shaving it, you need a mild safety razor and blade for that to avoid "slicing" yourself since you cannot see the angle of the razor behind your head. I only shave my head twice a week but I shave my face every day. Sooooo...long story short, I really like the Vikings Blade long handled "Vulcan" for my face and to edge around my beard edges. BUT I love the Viking's Blade Godfather to shave my head. It is a VERY MILD razor that adds a little extra safety against cuts on the back of my head. Just my opinion. But as always, keep the styptic pencil handy just in case. Sometimes you get too confident and THAT is when you cut yourself no matter which razor you use.

    this video helped me alot thanks clean shaver I have recently started shaving my dome and I love your videos about head Shaving. what type of aftershaves would you recommend to use on the dome

    • @TheCleanShaver
      @TheCleanShaver  7 років тому +1

      It probably depends on your skin type. Lots of guys tend to have oily skin up on their head (and especially on the nape of the neck). With that in mind, I usually do a combination of aftershave balm and an alcohol/witch hazel splash. Lots of options.

    I have a full head of hair but always wanted to completely shave my head to see what it was like & what I looked like. All I can say is there is no going back to a full head of hair! It is Awesome being bald plus my wife loves the new look so enough said. Even if you still have a lot of hair but have thought about shaving just do it, most guys look better bald so just go for it. If you dont like the like the bald look it will grow back! JUST DO IT! I have a full beard that adds to the look as well!

    Also I use 1 blade per head shave, now I don't use Timor blades that are $40.00 per 100. But I do use Treet blades that you can buy for $5.00 per 100 and there great for 1 shave. Hope this helps someone out.

    I recently have been using an alum block on my head after shaving as an antiseptic. What are your thoughts on alum blocks? My head is super sensitive and so far I have really liked it and can tell a difference.

    • @TheCleanShaver
      @TheCleanShaver  7 років тому

      Alum blocks are great for toning up the skin after a shave. If you cut yourself, they sting like the dickens, though. Overall, I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, though. Rule #1 of shaving: If it works for you, keep doing it.
