- How to fix the bit holder of an impact driver. My DeWalt impact driver was dropping bits, this is common and luckily it's an easy fix with no special tools required. A spring inside the bit chuck wears out or breaks and needs to be replaced.

YES! Got my springs today! I haven't had a working impact in 2 years! This is AWESOME! THANKS AGAIN!
I have 2 impacts and my coworker has 2. We have double exactly because of this problem. All 4 are broken like this. This is EXACTLY what I needed to see! THANK YOU! This is a HUGE pain, especially if you're up on a ladder on the second story! I've been sticking plastic bag in mine to act as a "shim", leaving the sleeve in and changing the tip bit only, but sometimes this is too long and you need just an impact ready bit. Got 12 replacement springs coming Thursday! THANKS AGAIN!
Glad I can help mate! Thanks for watching 🙏
Where do you get the parts from.
Ebay or amazon...

Awesome, thanks for watching 👍
Helped a lot, thank you. Mine wasn't even broken, just fell out of place
Thank you! Picked one up at a pawn shop and got it for $15 because it won't hold bits. I had a feeling there was an easy fix.
Nice👌
Excellent video. Helped fix my impact. If anyone has a Stanley impact before the v20 series, the Dewalt springs will work on that too.
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching!
Short & Sweet.. Thank's Bro..👍.👍.!
Thanks for watching 👊
Great video Short and to the point Thank You
Where do you order the parts from
My DeWalt Impact Driver was sold to me missing the ball bearing from factory, so I ordered a new one and some spring clips as well, because the one that's on there is almost impossible to get back on
Great video..but do u know how to fix a wobble chuck?
Do Dewalts not lock the bits like Makita? When I was using one the bit would stay no problem and not fall out like in this video but when I pull it unlike makitas they’re not locked in or was mine defective?
There are different techniques. Thanks for watching!
Thanks mate, great view angle.
Thanks for watching mate
Where did you get the replacement springs?

Awesome! Thank you.

i tried to do the same but the spring is totally fine and there is no small ball in hole! i can't find any solution online
p.s: it's only my forth time using it
please help if you can thanks in advance
Hi, I believe there should be 2 balls inside. Did a quick search and found this, Ebay item number:204310751527. Hope it heps
I have an older Milwaukee impact driver and can't find a spring kit for that particular model number. Does anyone know if a kit for other Milwaukee models would fit and work correctly? Model is 2650-20
Hi. See if you can find it here. www.ereplacementparts.com/milwaukee-265020-b55b-volt-hex-impact-driver-parts-c-131_9593_155455.html?srsltid=AfmBOophdAJnwhf1qfg3UAxIC1s-pAYnkQDCL6KeWrOSVgu548yJl4I1
I’m having the same issue, replaced the spring but it’s like the ball won’t hold the bit il still. Have tried 2 different springs. Any ideas?
Make sure you reasemmble everything in the correct order. The outer sleeve can also be mounted backwards. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching!
@@RestoredChannel everything was reassembled correctly like the video, i think the ball supposed to drop in and lock the bit in place when pushed down and only release when pulled up on the outer mechanism but for some reason it still dosent lock in
@@ImWreckI had the same issue after installing everything in the correct order. Where the ball is held in place, the end of the hook in the new spring was sticking out too far and rubbing on the collar. I trimmed the tip off with a pair of dikes, reassembled, and the bits would lock in place once more!
I tried and failed a lot of times to do this and even ordered a new ball Thinking it was the problem. In the end it was the new spring catching on the back side of the collet, compressing the spring and disengaging the ball. The fix was adding more coil to the spring making it closer fit to the shaft and therefore not catching on the collet which should go all the way back without spring forward during assembly
Great video! But where can I get the springs?
Amazon or ebay. Thanks for watching mate
What spring size do I look up? Is there a link you can provide? Thank you so much.
I FIGURED IT OUT. The little tab that holds the bearing needs bent DOWN, not up. When you bend it up it wants to scoop under the bearing and keep it pushed away from the bit, holding it up. You want it down so as the spring comes up the 2 little angles want to push the bearing inwards toward the recessed spot in the bit. Also make sure on the bottom of the spring it’s tight to the shaft, and on the top where it touches the bearing make it a little wider so it doesn’t hug the shaft tightly, but loosely. Also do shorten/compress the spring, but stretch one side on the bottom of the spring under the tab a little, make sure the coil under the tab is stretched so it constantly pushes on the bearing, that way with the way the tab is angled, it wants to constantly push the bearing inward.

Have any restorations coming up in future?
I do mate, just have a lot going on right now. You're doing great btw 👊
@@RestoredChannel Thank you! Keep them coming 👍
What’s the part called so I can order
What model do you have?
@@RestoredChannelI was able to find it, I appreciate the fast response
👍😁
Nice 👌
it seems to me that this is not the same on the older littler 12 volt model ?
It may differ between models. Which model do you have?
@@RestoredChannel DCF610 old unit and upon disassembly I found no lower spring or ball bearing and these parts r too big but I have a few 20 volt as well so I can use on them
Check www.sparepartsworld.co.uk. Just type in your model. The view shows a spring and also a number of ball bearings.
Hello, nice repair video, but do you by any chance know the part number for the spring? i got a 12v DeWalt Impact Gun and i just need to know the part number to buy it
Hi, you can find the partslist at www.toolservicenet.com. Just search your model. They also sell spare parts but Amazon has a lot too. Hope you find this helpful and thanks for watching!
I have ordered every spring off the schematic for my dewalt impact driver and none of them have this right angle to hold the ball in place. Anyone else running into this?
I have the Dewalt DCD701. But it does not have a screw for the chuckremoval. And it does not sound healthy, when I try to remove the cuck. I want to replace the cuck with one from Röhm, that goes up to 13mm: The Röhm 1322451 (Extra 50-RV13 1,5-13mm 1/2"-20).
That is a nice project...I got inspired by your videos.
Nice upgrade👌 glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
Name of the parts?
What model?
Do you need to apply grease around the new spring and steel ball?
No need to grease the ball..
You make it look so easy
Im scared to death to take my gun apart so i just taped the shaft
That works too😁 thanks for watching!
nice
👍👍❤❤
