Steamed Hams - But it's the original script

- Back in 2018 Bill Oakley, one of the writers of The Simpsons, decided to share the original script for the iconic "Steamed Hams" segment on his twitter account.
There are some differences from the final cut:
1) "unforgettable dinner" instead of "unforgettable luncheon"
2) Skinner was supposed to open the fridge to look for other roasts
3) Some lines were changed and do not follow the order we know
4) Chalmers thanks Seymour for the dinner and hopes to return the favor sometime.
Some guy did post a similar video some time ago, but I can't find it anywhere, so...here it is. - Розваги
So, three things.
1. Apparently, since it was originally dinner, the whole sketch would have messed with the continuity of the episode.
2. Skinner's line of having no roasts left quietly implies that he either cooks roast regularly or eats nothing but roasts.
3. The aurora borealis gag was left pretty much unchanged, which was probably the best decision they could have made.
I forgot there was more to the episode than the luncheon.
4. Despite Chalmers being certain that they are Krusty Burgers, he still looks forward to going to Skinner's place in the future.
5. "Ye Gods" not "Egads"
6. Skinner says “Oh no, patented skinner burgers! 100% skinner.” This makes it seem like the burgers are made from him.
"I've got no other roasts" is pretty hilarious if you think about it. "Say, Superintendent, do you mind waiting for roughly 4 hours while I cook another roast?"
lol if he had another roast, the plot would be him trying to speedcook it 🤣, he'd probably still burn the house down
@@DoroNijimaru "But what if... I coated this extra roast in thermite and lit it on fire?"
Perhaps that's why they cut it, like they figured a savvy chef would notice the plot hole there since Chalmers probably wouldn't wait that long.
What if he has a precooked roast or something
“I’ve been to Krusty Burger hundreds of times”
I guess cut this because they didn’t want Chalmers to get too suspicious
i like that aurora borealis in the middle of the day is even more absurd
Localized entirely in Skinner's kitchen!

The final version flows a lot better
Finally someone uploaded a recreation after the original vanished out of seemingly nowhere…!
Yep, that's exactly the reason why I made this video
Well, *A WONDERFUL EVENING*
Thank God they finally added tthe "one thing I ..." mumbling and the €You're an odd fellow" closing line. It wouldn't have been as good.
100% Skinner
Yeah the final version is much better.
I really missed the sentence "You steam a good ham"
That AI voice sounds like what biting into tin foil feels like.
Biting and swallowing it
AI voice acting will never give you nearly as good quality of product as good old-fashioned sentence mixing
You're right, but I am very lazy

Did he use AI
ai was fine for this though. if you used sentence mixing you'd likely bring in inflections that might take away from the point of the video, which is to show precisely what the original script said.
idk 🙃
Mfw I don’t have any spare roasts to cook 😩😢
"Localized" is the kind of word that's easier said with more common words like "contained" or "solely", so I was surprised they had it in the original draft too. Not very surprised, they're professional writers after all. But a little bit.
The biggest differences were that the fridge was lacking and that the luncheon was meant to be a dinner
Best one yet.
Chalmers was originally going to tell the Amateur Astronomers’ Union about the aurora borealis
Its kind of amazing someone wrote most of this by themselves
Bill Oakley wrote it all by himself

Whoops 🤭
not yelling SEYMOUR I see
Chalmers yelling SEYMOUR is part of the *music segment,* he doesn't actually yell at him during the scene.
It's actually a pet-peev of mine with Steamed Hams videos that go by that misconception.
I…sey…
@@matthewofcolumbus5610It does not help the script makes his line basically appear as "normal" dialogue line (look it up)

Lore of Steamed Hams - But it's the original script momentum 100
If the last line was improvised, then that was good.

I guess it has to make the rounds on the ol’ algorithm in a few more years haha…ha… 😅
