@@zachwatson319 The big lines only keep their cruise ships for 25-30 years, but then they're transferred or sold to subsidiaries or smaller cruise lines. Most cruise ships end up sailing 35 to 45 years.

Shahzad Yousuf well obvious the titanic would look worse compared to the britanic. When the bow broke off a wave of water followed, then it crashed into the bottom no doubt breaking the keel of the ship even more, then the water that followed crashed onto the bow flattening decks destroying anything not nailed down. Now let’s look at the stern when it sank there was still air inside it which means it imploded then began to spin unlike the bow the stern wasn’t shaped like a bullet so with water pressure and the implosion and it’s landing caused a great deal of damage to the structure.
It’s amazing that the wreck even survived the fall to begin with let alone 106 years. And the bacterial slowly eating her away. If there were any bodies left in her they most likely were eaten during the 30s or 40s.
The britanic on the other hand compared to her sister survived minimal damage till the bow broke off.
Shahzad yousuf Well yeah titanic had to travel much further to the seabed which caused her to rip apart due to the speed at which she was traveling as well as the pressure, Britannic only had like 100ish meters lol, you can tell the Britannic didn't have far to fall cause the front of the bow is bent due to when it sank, the bow took the weight of the whole ship

Britannic is not as far underwater as the Titanic! The Titanic is approximately 3.8km (2.37 miles) underwater, while on the otherhand the Britannic is about 122m underwater (400 feet). Also, there is a certain type of bacteria thriving on iron that is eating away at the Titanic, while with the Britannic, life is thriving around it and leaving it in pretty decent conditions!

In my opinion, the Olympic class ships were the most beautiful ships to ever sail the ocean. Really remarkable to see a ship in this good condition, and realize its the very same ship that sailed a 100 years ago. Sadly Britannic never got to see commercial service, would be cool to see how it would look compared to her sisters

Crazy how much Brittanic is undocumented compared to titanic..yea I know war grave and all but still considering the vice versa depths...
Even though BRITANNIC is at only 400 feet of water, there's a lot of paperwork to go thru, just to go to the wreck site. You need forms from the British Government, since it's their "gravesite". You need forms from the Greek Government, since it's in their water. You need forms from the wreck's (private) owner, to get his permission to dive on his wreck. Every one of these paper forms has to be filled out, signed and submitted. Even then, if you get one "no", then you can forget about the trip.
Plus you have to need to take weather into account. If you have a permit for a 5 day exploration, but one day, the water is too choppy to dive or send an ROV over the side, you've lost a day.
TITANIC is in international water, but it's not reachable by regular Submarine. The pressure at 12,460 feet means your windows need to be about an inch thick! The wreck site is currently owned by RMS TITANIC INC. and they say who can and who can't go.

@@carlspackler91 - I'm not 100% sure of what all you need to do to claim the wreck. What I DO know is that military ships (like battleships) remain property of the nation of which they sailed for.
Simon Mills is a TITANIC historian and also owner of the BRITANNIC wreck. I'm not sure what he did to get the BRITANNIC, but Lord I wish I had her too!

probably because britannic isnt as interesting to explore, it was a hospital ship so the only things inside would be medical supplies and beds, no passengers ever boarded her, no notable names, no personal belongings of interests and only 30 people died.
titanic was a passenger ship that had very famous names onboard most of who was killed, so many personal belongings of those people exists down there.
Imagine going down there for the first time. Seeing the first glimpse in 60 years. That’s just amazing.
@Floyd1504 The actual discovery was by Jaques Cousteau in 1976 (1975?), after encouragement by the late William Tantum (then president of the Titanic Historical Society).

I remember someone making a joke about the ship and calling it the Great Britannic Reef, then I see that they weren't joking.
It’s truly amazing how different the Britannic wreck is from the wreck of the Titanic.
Sinking in shallow waters, in one piece and with no nasty rusticles eating her up is the reason. Britannic was still part afloat when her touched the sea bed. Titanic broke in two and the bow section sunk to a 4 kilometer depth and crashed on the sea floor at high speed. The stern section was filled with trapped air and when the water pressure became too high the whole stern section imploded and tore itself to pieces while tumbling down.
Then we haven't even mentioned the insane pressure at such depths and the iron eating bacteria devouring the ship like leeches.
Its the same size as the titanic so this is what the titanic would look like in one piece, and it's propellers too.
Yeah the Britannic is just glowing with life as it became one with nature but Titanic is sad and deformed with rust and darkness.

In truth, the RMS Britannic is longer and slightly wider than the Titanic, as it was modified during construction to meet new safety criteria after the sinking of the twin, and to rival the RMS Aquitania. Just think, had those people listened and followed Captain Bartletts' command to not yet lower the boats, they absolutely would've survived. With alittle bit of luck, he might have been able to beach it.
Violet Jessops story of survival regarding the sinking of the Brittanic was actually more dramatic then how she survived the Titanic. Its was amazing she survived what she went through when the Brittanic sank

Her sister ship Olympic had such powerful steam powered propellers she sucked a British Royal Navy cruiser it to her at such a rate it severely damaged the bow of the cruiser nearly capsizing it and tore a gash in Olympic so big it was out of service for three months
@Floyd1504 but the death toll was 30 people because they went to the propellers. 30 people wouldn't have died if they would have started lowering them a bit later, or atleast the ones in the back a bit later

@@Rob774 to be honest besides the boew damage that wasn't caused by the passage of time but rather the sinking, the ship is really seemingly in very good condition. At 6:46 you can see what looks like the the red waterline paint still holding even.

@@historicallyinaccuratebana6765 The Greek government is VERY, VERY strict when it comes to wrecks in their waters - SO strict, that when one expedition was exploring the wreck, the Greek officials got it (mistakenly) into their minds that the expedition had violated one of their rules, and ordered the confiscation of all of their wreck footage. No amount of pleading would dissuade them. Fortunately, the expedition leaders stalled them off long enough to make copies of all the footage, and still had what they needed when they turned over the originals. I believe they were ordered off the site, too. And it was all over a misunderstanding to begin with (the Greeks believed the divers had removed one artifact from the wreck. They hadn't). You DON'T want to have to visit a wreck in Greek waters. Just the red tape alone to get approval would kill you.
So much crustation. There's no glass left in the windows on this one. It totally belongs to the sea.

This isn't normal scuba diving. This is very advanced at almost 400 feet. Even advanced certified I'm only allowed to go down to 120 feet. After that you need different air mixes and training.

As a person who works with tropical fish on a professional level,I would love to dive this wreck just to observe the unblemished and very active coral reef it has become. Unfortunate that the liner was destroyed during a war, but Britannic lives on as a thriving ecosystem.
Absolutely wonderful video. I love seeing these, and learning the history of the shipwrecks. I saw Ballard find the Titanic live when they aired it on TV. I was awestruck. One of my autistic sons has a huge fascination with shipwrecks, and talks about them all the time. I am going to have to show this video to him. It will blow his mind. Stunning video!

You can't do that, you have to get permission to dive to Britannic and you are not allowed to go inside.

For a ship that has been on the ocean floor for 100+ years, Brittanic is in remarkable condition compared to Titanic.
It has a lot to do with the depth of each one's wing and they have no comparison to my taste, the Titanic is more recognizable because you can see every detail inside the ship and the British can't.

In the case of HMHS Britannic, it doesn't matter how you design the watertight compartments if you open the portholes to bring fresh air into the wards. Ultimately, she was doing a job she was not designed to do.

Not nearly as Erie of a gravesite as the titanic, plus you can dive to this one. I’d love to one day explore this wreck. In 50 years it’ll be a lot more decayed than this.
It's nice to see the Britannic is home to more life now, than it did when it was afloat.
The ship actually would have survived the mine. But about an hour before it struck, the amnesia ports where opened to vent out the anmesia gas, they were left open as she started to fill, and allowed water to flood into the main cabins. Had they been closed, she would have been able to steam on to a repair yard. Such a mighty beast taken down by the lack of attention.
Great footage. Interesting reflection... here I am sitting in my little corner on Earth thinking that the choice of music is a disaster comparable to the sinking itself. Whereas somewhere else on Earth, someone thought it was a perfect match. Amazing how different we all are.
I've spent my entire life obsessed with the Titanic and the three Olympic class sisters and have always wanted to become a diver and acquire all the certifications/qualifications needed in order to dive this site and truly bask in the glory of Titanic's damn-near identical sister in person. There's quite a few reasons why she's in such better shape than Titanic and I'm very thankful that she's become an artificial corral "reef" in semi-shallow water and not a rapidly deteriorating/disappearing wreck covered in rust-eating bacteria like her sister sitting at the bottom of the north Atlantic, disappearing more and more as the years go by. I'll obviously never get the chance to swim along side the decks of the Titanic but it's entirely possible to do so with the Britannic, so maybe, just maybe, I'll have my chance at it someday; It's definitely not outside the realm of possibilities.

The brave and beautiful Violet Jessop, who hired on as a stewardess on Titanic and survived in 1912, became a nursing sister for the war. By some ironic fate, she was assigned to HMHS Britannic, and lives were saved as a result of her experience and quick thinking. Great's the pity Britannic never achieved the glamour of the Southampton-NYC run; despite the brilliance of their design and build, the younger Olympic class sisters shared a malign destiny.
She was also on the Olympic when it collided with the HMS Hawke. So she was aboard all three ships when they had their major incidents.
Still full with life, just a different kind. Amazing.

Britannic, although an almost exact carbon copy of Titanic, has had a completely different life:
- Sank much faster than her sister, but only took down 30 people (her sister took down 1500 people)
- She sank in a very similar fashion to her sister, but hit the bottom before the stern actually went down (explains the huge damage at the bow)
- Obviously, she is in one piece and in excellent condition (in contrast with her sister)
- Can be reached just by yourself, no need of a submarine (although you could use one if you're really squeamish; her sister can only be reached by submarine, and we know how that went last time)
- She has an amazing sea life surrounding her, practically becoming an artificial reef. Her sister is devoid of any life, except from the bacteria that are slowly eating her

Just gonna note that whoever is asking to raise it, heres why they cant:
1. It's a war grave
2. It's way too fragile to raise, it will probably fall apart as soon as its on its way to the surface.

The first name of the "Britannic" was the "Gigantic", but the White Star Line decided to change the name of the ship.
Ambroise LAFON incorrect, she was always Britannic. Gigantic was used for an order of her anchors, and remains unknown why, but every other reference made from her conception to her sinking is as Britannic
@@ScramasaxeRA That is not true, actually, the designer of the Britannic first proposed the idea in the first temporary files. Her name was not changed at the time of the Titanic disaster, but White Star Line declined the name when they went through the files, and quickly changed it to "Britannic".

What an amazing dive and expedition that would have been to be on.
Why is everybody saying she’s in such amazing condition? Nothing was recognizable in this video besides the hold crane and the propellers. She’s literally covered in sea-life (which is amazing) but I wouldn’t say she’s in amazing condition. Titanic (bow section) literally sits upright and is completely recognizable. Even her paint is still visible on the sides. Cool video though!
You have to take account the difference in the fact that the Titanic is 4 km down so the photos are tall taken by submersibles, while the Britannic is only 120 m down so the photos can be (and in this case, were) taken by divers. So there's much less maneuver to choose good angles. But I did recognize the promenade decks, for example.
The Britannic also isn't upright so you mostly have photos of the ship's port side taken from above.

Sunken ships are impressive but scary at the same time
There’s such an amazing juxtaposition between Britannic and Titanic.
Britannic lies only a hundred or so meters below the warm waves, the sunlight can still reach her, and the wreck is flourishing with life as we see. A hundred years later, she’s still beautiful to look at despite all the sea growth.
Titanic, on the other hand, lies thousands of meters below the frigid Atlantic Ocean, shrouded in an eternal darkness in an inhospitable wasteland where the only life is the bacteria dissolving her bit by bit every day. Not to mention the violent end the Stern met after she broke apart.

The painting of the Britannic on the bottom with it's port bow blown open from inside was based on Cousteau's belief that the ship was torpedoed by the Germans which blew up munitions Britannic wasn't supposed to be carrying and sank her. In reality the mine caused her to sink in water shallower than she is long, the bow hit the bottom with the stern still in the air; causing it to mostly separate. The explosion warped Britannic's frame, causing at least 6 of her watertight doors to jam in the open position. The Greek government is supposed to be allowing dives inside the wreck again; hope so, lots of secrets inside. GREAT video, thanks for sharing.

Why did it take until 1975 before they discovered the wreck? It's not that deep and I feel like people would know if such a big ship sank
i think the reason why is when it sank the was a lack of gear to use when it went down so no one could see until there was enough gear
She's so full of life, literally!
More than her state of preservation, i think its beautiful how alive she is. She didnt get a very long life in service, so i think its wonderful that she provides a home for hundreds of thousands if not millions of diverse organisms all throughout the wreck. In a way shes more alive over a hundred years later than her longer-lived sister ever was.
It´s so majestic, when i was a kid i only did knew the beautiful titanic.
