And, let us not forget the Master playing through the violin! Violin maker, composer, violinist, modern recording technology and master technologist behind it = incredible experience.
There is a brightness and lightness of the tone, exceptionally defined at the center of the note played and the ovetones are in such perfect mathematical alignment that when he transitions from note to chord to note, there is a slight reverberation of one set of overtones into the next that on most violins causes dissonance at some level. There is hardly any on this instrument, It is a joy to hear it. Also, the accoustics and the player aren't to be ignored.
There's a great quote by Heifetz (if I'm not mistaken) when an audience member approached him after a concert and told him that his violin sounded amazing, Heifetz then raised his violin to his own ear, and replied "that's funny, I don't hear anything"
Magnificent violin! Beautiful tone, balance, responsiveness, everything is perfect. This is where the legend and reality are identical. Thanks for this wonderful and informative documentary about a truly extraordinary instrument which fully deserves its fame. 👍
The choice of the room for playing was a very good way of demonstrating how the Violin accompanied itself by resonance, and emphasizes the real quality of sound purity.
Grazie infinite per questa meraviglia di video! Una emozione immensa ascoltare come suona nelle mani del grande Maestro Biondi. Saluti da Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I must admit to preferring Guarnarni del Geus' (as if I have any real value in opinion on these fantastically superb instruments) the sound here is just fantastic, amazing, god-like in its ability to bring out so many colours and tonal qualities that I can only sit here and marvel at. Now back to my 1913 Eduard Reichert, a lovely violin for me but so subpar when measured against something of the power of the violin here and its contemporaries. I'm happy with what I have but to have a Guarnarni del Gesu or, as here, a Stradivari... Oh, wouldn't one's heart just melt? I've never been a big money-hungry person but when it comes to having access to the calibre of instruments such as shown here, it makes me wish I were a multi-millionaire. Just beautiful !!
What glorious sound! Imagine how much more glorious it had been if the violin had it's original bass bar, period neck angle and gut strings. Even though it doesn't live up to it's potential sound wise, it still sounds like heaven. Great instrument, and very well kept!
Can the museum's lab perform CT scans (now down to bacterial level resolution) of the great violins to investigate the topologies of the two plates of the instrument? The tweeter region (left of the left f-hole) and the soundboard under the fingerboard are of the most importance. Much would be learned.
Hmm. You got me thinking that perhaps you could add sticky lead disks to certain areas to muffle them as a crude investigational technique into violin acoustics.
Hey there...so how did Stradivari know how to make violins sound so beautiful? Did he get wood from a magic 'Tuscan' forest? Did he have a permit to go in there? Sorry for so many questions. 🎻
@@odconstant A lot of people died in 1737. Medici family ruled in Florence, Tuscany, and Stradivari worked in Cremona, Cremona much mich closer to the sphere of Milan. Lomarby has it's own language, Lombard, and Tuscan in Tuscany. There is the Great Plague in 1738 which was surely underway by then. Stradivari was 93, he had far surpassed the life expectancy which was 43 years. The Medici failed to produce a male heir and in 1737, and the Duke of Lorraine and his Habsburg wife, Maria Theresa became the rulers and the territory became Austrian briefly. One is a death of old age, the other is a story of many great houses. So no, not weird at all.
This is all well and good, however... given the recording medium, YT playback medium, and my listening system, I'm not hearing this violin accurately. To do this one has to be in the room with it when it is played.
They didn't play with chinrests before. Mr. Biondi follows the "old" style (based on iconography and treatise descriptions) where they put the violin in said way. That said, it does look awkward from a modern perspective.
The quality of the sound was truly amazing on that masterpiece of a wonderful 🎻 by the greatest maker of all time great video ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This violin, by far, has the most beautiful timbre I've ever heard. It just exudes life and emotion. It was truly crafted by the hand of a master.

@@georgetate6055 I couldn't agree more. Quite literally everything/1 working together in harmony.... Pun intended. 😊

Fabio Biondi sure helps! He's amazing. But boy does that fiddle sound incredible

In the hands of Fabio Biondi the Tuscan Strad simply sounds incredible.

What do you mean
Conversely, a very "live" room like this is also a risk, it will show up flawed playing and poor instruments
I impressed sound of Violin and Biber's music, and his performance. When I played this music, It was soul sound! Thank you so much.
Maravilloso sonido del Violín Stradivarius Tuscan ; con un excelente tono y un timbre con un exquisito equilibrio sonoro .
Великолепно-восхитительный звук!
BRAVO !
Just to think that instrument is over 3 centuries old is mindblowing
Verdade
Fascinating technology. Fine playing of Bieber ❤️ Grazie!
There will never be a violin maker like Stradivari. The sound is incredible. A testament to the Italian genius.
Amazing sound! Fabio Biondi is my favorite violinist!!!
Perfect violin and great violinist makes for an absolute delight!
Magnificent.

A piece played on a Strativarius is unique among violins!
What Strativarius??

The birth of Stradivari myth has precise reasons ! Bravo Maestro Biondi!

This violin was played by Gioconda de Vito. Una grandissima violinista

Fabio Biondi has a CD out with this violin - label Glossa - Italian Sonatas!
I bought it recently and it's superb.

Unbelievable sound. what a wonderful mystery as to why they still can’t build one that can equal in sound quality.
Bravo Singor Biondi ❤

@@travis5125 Yes, this with the Schladni test could tell a lot.
Only in Italy!
Yes, but do the knobs go to eleven?
c'est vrai que ce violon a une sonorité exceptionnelle dans de bonnes mains
Ma che corde usano in strumenti cosí preziosi e delicati?
It's quite rare to see a Stradivari being played in the Baroque Style.

Que gusto escuchar no ahy violín mejor hecho esto no modernalidad es calidad y secreto de su gran creador Stradivarius
Very beatiful and interesting. One detail: in 1794 there was no Medici court... it ended in1737, the Lorena ruled.
Weird, same year Stradivari died.

The strad varnish was based on oil or spirit ?

Very nicely done, though I don't speak Italian.
So much reverb/echo can make anything sound beautiful.
Excellent, but confused reality.
only Jascha Heifetz could play Chaconne .... biondi's version is like lukewarm tap water
I believe you are referring to Heifetz playing the Bach Chaconne.
Biondi is playing a Chaconne written by Biber.
