I am very new at this. Lol at 67 years old. Your layout is beautiful. I love the idea of adding a leaf or flower as well as your drawing. Thank you for all of your tips. Great information.
I love to journal but I have never considered nature journaling. Your video has opened up a whole new world for me and now I’m excited to try! Thank you!
I love the idea of collecting notes and then assembling them later in a loving way. This gives an opportunity to contemplate all that you’ve seen and experienced to make a much more thoughtful journal entry.
I have recently discovered that taking a ruler just ends up losing me a ruler. Ha. So I grabbed an old ruler I had at home and sketched out two side by side lines on the inside cover, drawing them top to bottom at the edge. The left one I made into inches and the right one, about half an inch from the other, I made centimeters. What I often do is look up feathers or flowers to see what they are and if I leave them where I find them, I don’t always have the measurements in cm, so having these inches and cms helps in identifying my finds. Just last week I found a roughly six inch feather, and when looking it up, I had no idea how many cms (which the website noted) it translated to, so I found using this ruler kept me from having to guess incorrectly and was readily available inside the book. Just fewer things for me to keep up with and not leave behind. I do love the pocket idea, as I’m always wanting to bring home a seed or a sprig to share with my neighbor who can’t get out and walk w me.
his has so many great ideas I never thought of before. I wondered how so many nature journals I saw seemed perfect, I never thought of outlining areas for the drawings and lines to keep the writing straight. I'm also glad to see someone else using mod podge to seal plants inside their journal, I haven't seen anyone else do so and worried I was preserving them wrong.
Thank you! I have used regular and recently purchased some archival Mod Podge. However…I have some craft items that I made years ago that still look great! Thanks for watching and for your kind words! Glad if anything helps 😊🍂🌸

I am just starting out nature journalling. I am studying MA illustration and needed a plan for my next unit, and nature journalling is it along with maps as we have to do maps. I love your work.
Just finished organizing my journal like yours and now just need to get out to nature and record her beauty. Just waiting for the weather to cool down. Way too hot here in Texas. Thanks for the inspo. 💖
Use it indoors also. I often head out in winter and just sketch from my nice warm (and windless) car. You could also use it to quick sketch your coffee mug or your mailman or your neighbor’s beautiful fall colored tree.
Great ideas! I am beginning my journey of nature journaling. So these ideas will be useful as I begin. Thank you! I can’t wait to begin. I will be making my journal from scratch with some fantastic sketch paper I found at a second hand store.
The idea of one single papersheet for pressing flowers, is great. And I carry around sone wooden pieces where the pressed flowers slip out of. The paper should do very well. One single tip for your envelope. Put it in your book, open side facing the inside and nothing can fall our during nestling around. Just the other way around you did.
Glad it was helpful! And turning the envelope around would be helpful if you don’t have a closure or your envelope is wider at the bottom! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video 😊🌿
