I’m halfway through this book, already was a fan of Dfw’s writing style before I picked hideous up, so far it’s a decent book, I just don’t know how to say anything other than positive and curious writing..
Thank you for giving a run down of this book, I needed a little taster before I went into in because I loved the concept I just wasn’t sure what it was about. I will be coming back to tell you my ideas and discussions to do with this book!
Please! Let me know what you think about “Octet” and the last interview . I first read it years ago and that was one of the first books that really blew my mind in terms of what fiction writing could do. It makes such a personal 1 on 1 connection with whoever is reading the book. Lots of idiosyncrasies that we all experience, Wallace has a real gift for writing about them
Hello again! I finally got round to reading this book and only just finished it yesterday! I found this book way more interesting and insightful than I thought I would. I was already fascinated my the subject matter and wow did David Foster Wallace Deliver!. This book made me both smile, wince and gasp and it was an amazing journey. The last interview was probably the most important and interesting story out of all of them. As a woman it did make me feel uncomfortable but it almost made me feel sorry for him. Which is something only ‘the league of Gentelmen’ has allowed me to do once before. I first thought he was being delusional and lying about what he wanted to happen but I soon realised that she actually did act like that. It made me scared and it made me think about how I’d act in such a horrific situation. The way he writes is extremely intimate and real. I felt myself relating to some of the other stories and it both scared me and comforted me. As for ‘Octet’, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the rest of the book. I found it hard to read, though I did like the annedote about himself writing the book. I’m so happy I got to read it though and I’m basing one of my Advanced Higher English creative scripts on the question and answer monologues in the book!

Why the Deutschland flag? Just curious.
Oh my family is German. I plan to move there someday! I admire a lot about the country
