It wasnt nostalgia that made this a good movie. It was that is was a popcorn flick done well. And disney will not get that. I like to be entertained when i got to a movie. This movie did that. I didn't have to think, just be entertained.
12:10 Deadpool looks right into the camera when Snipes says there will only be one Blade and gives a look towards us, I'm sure that was a reference saying "for now"
I did want to address a couple of nitpicks about the story. Although I do agree there are other script and story issues, I don't think the "anchor" is one of them. It seems to be fairly strongly hinted that the "anchor" for a universe is somewhat dynamic, and I think reading between the lines, the higher-ups reason for recruiting Deadpool and considering him "important for some reason", it's reasonable that he "takes over" as the "anchor" after Wolverine dies, but he needs to come in to that role by his actions to try to save the universe. That also means that removing a Wolverine who is essentially inconsequential to his own universe, and having him exist in another universe where he is similarly unimportant (Deadpool being the actual "anchor"), would still probably be OK. That's still fudging things a little, but there are enough hints dropped to that effect through the film, I believe it can be considered a reasonable if slightly sloppy explanation. After all, in the famous words of the Doctor, this is all "wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff", so you get a little leeway with it, so long as you at least make an effort to address it or hint at people "in the know" making everything work out in the end.
As a Deadpool comic fan, this was just peak. You wouldnt be getting any good story telling or profound feelings after watching this movie. It is in the most literal sense a Rick and Morty episode with time travel, portal guns, different dimensions and variants of the characters we love. It just shows that a movie doesnt have to be a cinematic masterpiece for it to sell. The production of this movie was just who would this movie fun? What would make this movie fun and just throw them all together. As for Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, all I can say is he basically is the irl embodiment of the character. Some will get sick of his constant quips and dumb jokes (basically like how the comic book characters all get annoyed by him) but thats his whole character and that is what Ryan delivered even if its just him playing himself. This movie was one that had me hyped from the moment it was announced and it has been a god damn long time since Marvel has done that. I do hope they deliver on the movies to come especially when a character as impactful and as big as Dr Doom is pulled out of the bag with an actor as big as RDJ
And to quote a line from the movie (Spoilers ahead) "Disney is going to have you coming back till you're 90 Logan" He was not wrong when RDJ came back but for Dr Doom Same with Harrison Ford
The thing with Harrison ford is...that he wants to play Indiana Jones. These types of comments always puzzle me, cause sometimes the actor is also too attached to a role. And until people still like to see more of it and the actor wants to do more of it...then there is no harm.
11:44 "im also we never got a solo movie" You cant be serious. The costume looks great. Im sick of the super realistic boring costumes that superheros have on movies, they miss the point. I want the fun colorful ones like Gambit. Comic book heros are meant to look realistic.
Scary Movie part one was the first R movie I bought a ticket for when I turned 17. It was iconic. Fantastic. I was also a 17 year old boy. It took 20 years for Hugh Jackman to don the mask, but this movie isn't meant for 40 year old Men. It's meant for that 17 year old boy who's currently on Summer Break heading into their senior year of highschool. It's going to be what is talked about in hallways between classes. This movie should keep producing for a couple of months and it'll cause those boys to search for and rent the derivative movies like Blade part one and Electra. Remember- those movies came out before they were born. When I saw American Pie for the first time as a teenager, people compared it to Porky's and Meatballs from the 80s. So I went to Blockbuster to rent those movies to gain perspective. Deadpool 3 will cause teenagers to spend money on the old stuff, revitalizing dead films
7:15 except multiple people, including ryan reynolds and hugh jackman, have confirmed that the film WAS indeed finished this was NOT and unfinished movie "unfinished movies like deadpool and wolverine" except no, ryan reynolds made it a POINT to ONLY release the movie once THEY WERE HAPPY WITH IT which they did.
10:45 to try to make sense of their logic - before the anchor being existed that branch universe had supposedly not yet split off from some earlier timeline.
I do have to disagree with you on one thing, as someone whose second most favorite superhero is Gambit, Tatum killed at as Gambit and I genuinely would enjoy a movie with him as the character, or at least bring him back for more. Was such a fun experience to see
Haven’t seen it yet but, I will. However I have to disagree with your RDJ coming back as Doom take. That is exactly why I won’t be going to see that movie. RDJ is Iron Man. Doom is a great character that should have had a great introduction with a new actor. Aside from Deadpool & Wolverine, I think the MCU is dead. At least it is for me.
As a screenplay, the plot is a bit flimsy. However, if you see the plot as meta as Deadpool, it makes sense from a movie watching experience. Having characters from failed franchises in the void, it comes together. Just my thoughts.
I found Deadpool a lot more annoying than in the first two. It feels like they completely disregarded the character they'd built up in the first 2 movies and replaced him with the comic book version who is entirely a joke and has no character to him beyond his gimmick. He felt a lot closer Harley Quinn or She-Hulk.
The thing I found what’s amazing about this movie is that it ends the Fox Universe. And people can also step off from here if they like. Deadpool I & II and III can now be watched right after Logan and it will make sense to an extent. And an end and send off to the Fox universe. Much like how you can put Homecoming, Far From Home, and No way home as the ending series to the Amazing era and Raimi era Spider Man series. This fits in similarly.
Everything you said adds to the theory that this movie was originally about Deadpool travelling through the "movie verse" and not really the "MCU multiverse". Which is why Gambit is in the movie and doesnt know his origin. He even says he mightve been born in the "void". Which orignally would've just been a place where dead movies and characters from those movies go.
Thanks Cynic! I'm going to see this because Reynolds does a lot for Wales, he even put a Welshpool in the film. Also this is the most Canadian superhero movie ever ( both main heroes are canuckleheads eh!). Cheers.
I have watched this twice now. The point where you were talking about the plot, I was sitting there thinking "what the fuck is this guy talking about?" Saw it twice, had so much fun with the nonsense that I completely blanked on the "story". That is a sign of a good time had by all in a movie.
14:02 Ryan and Hugh wanted to avoid doing that because it would undo Wolverine's sacrifice in the Logan movie. Keeping the story of that film intact was one of their main priorities.
All this movie was, was a love letter (as others wrote here) from Hugh and Ryan to US. It's a nod of respect and a hug. And it's a goodbye letter. I think we can let superhero movies go now. The moment's past. And I'm happy this movie respected the legacy of super hero movies pre-MCU. It's over now I think. And this was a great way to say goodbye.
as someone who doesn't watch these movies and know nothing about them, what does he mean by "phase 7"? i watch because i love him ripping these movies.
Deadpool literally killed his writers in the comics. I don't think plot necessarily matter when he can do that. I loved the movie personally and wasn't expecting a deep thought out plot. Anything multiverse or time-travel related, you got to tune it out.
I don't get why people are so weird about Cassandras motivations when they were so clear. She's a complete narcissist on a power trip and not a long time planner so when the TVA fucks with her she decides to fuck with them back and take all their toys (the timelines). Sure I bet she would regret it in the future when she's bored without any new people to lord over but obviously that's in the future. Did it come from pretty much nowhere? Yes but it was still clear why she was doing it.
I wish we could’ve seen a 4th captain America movie where he goes back in time and places the stones back and what he does to change his past to never go in the ice.
For your first plot hole issue at the end, I think you missed the bit of Paradox saying replacing an anchor being with a variant doesn't work, that's when we find out this Wolverine is apparently the worst one... Somehow. If anything, that's the plot hole. I mean our Wolverine left the X-Men at the end of the first film but returned in time for X2. This films Wolverine didn't make it back in time. I mean they show Old Man Logan and Evil Wolverine... But they aren't the worst versions? Or am I looking too deep? Maybe they meant the worst as in the most pathetic... idk.
I like to imagine the only MCU movies post-Endgame are the Spidey sequels, Guardians 3, and Deadpool and Wolverine. A pretty damn good epilogue phase if you ask me. Also, great review as always Cynic. This movie was a fun time that delivered. What you see was what you get and I have little to no complaints.
We got deadpool We got deadpool and cable We got deadpool and wolverine. Theres only 1 left to round this up. Deadpool and spiderman. Dp is always paired with a stoic straightman lets see him team up with someone with a similar sense of humor but with morality and never swears.
Looking behind the scenses its really surprising how it actually turned out great. The stuff Disney tried to put in or reel back. They essentially tried to control the entire project. It took Ryan, Hugh and the entire team to basically say "F off Disney let us make a film how we want to." And lookkng at some if the stuff Disney wanted to do. Telling them to f off was the best thing they could say.
I will say, I don't think a single solitary person went to see deadpool & wolverine for the story, everyone went for the cameos, and to see ryan renolds and hugh jackman on the same screen again.
Fun fact: In the Latin American Spanish dub of the movie Deadpool says the expression "¡Me meo!" (Which means "I'm gonna pee myself!") When he thinks that "Captain America" is going to say "Avengers assemble!" well, that's pretty much how anyone can feel when watching this movie.
About the anchor beings, I thought they were talking about the characters who branched the timeline or are the focal point of the timeline. Think Loki and how him getting the Space Stone in Endgame created a new timeline. As for incursions, from my understanding, I believe it only really became an issue when there were too many timelines. Also, Loki taking control of the multiverse probably changed how things work. That said, we don't have official explanations so I could be wrong. This is just my understanding of it all. I love time travel stories, but there's only a handful of them that are able to completely stick to their internal logic. For me, fun and enjoyment is the most important factor and in that regard, I'd say Deadpool and Wolverine did a great job.
I truly enjoyed this movie, IT WAS FUN to watch in the theater and I was missing that feeling. Whether it is good, artistic, etc. I don’t care much right now, I wanted entertainment and I got it.
Really, it was just nice to go and see a Marvel movie, have some fun and walk out of the theatre happy and laughing - instead of fucking hating my life. These movies aren't Oscar winners, it's nice to just be able to enjoy them again and you could tell it was just two best buds having fun. And even if it is just member-berries, the berries have never tasted so sweet.
Can people just enjoy cool shit? Like people complain we don't get Like wolverines og costume for example, then when we get that "urrg it's fan service" like just get off the high horse and enjoy cool things like normal people
You gotta love Deadpool, it's like you know what, good guy fights bad guy there's friggin plot. I like it, because there was more to it, and there's more then just one reason to go out to the movies, sometimes it's just a good "greesy McDonald's" summer movie.
I hope we get a trilogy(ik its highly unlikely but the potential for it is crazy) like they could do something like Deadpool and Wolverine...and Hulk, and then Deadpool and Wolverine...and Hulk & Spiderman like it would be crazy highly unlikely to happen tho
So, It looks like this is gonna be the first MCU movie I'm going to watch since No Way Home and that one was heavily relying on pre-Disney adaptations from my childhood too. I think that enough is a proof that this genre got itself into a corner
It has its problems, but you can look past those things cause of how fun the movie is. The soundtrack is terrible you can't convince me otherwise lol, but a lot of people seemed to like it...
This is the only movie I have ever went to the theaters for a second watch. Its so much fun! Deadpool is a perfect example that sometimes, its fine not having an amazing story or not even a good one. But having amazing characters that make it fun is more than worth it and is possible to replace a story. I dont think the story was bad, although definitely lazy writing. But thats Deadpool! Who cares about the Story, youre there for the character (Or characters). Deadpool and Wolverine were amazing together. And then a bunch of the actors replaying their parts did so amazing too! Human Torch, Blade, X-23, Pyro and even Elektra did amazing! And Cassandra Nova was such an entertaining and good villain for the story. I didnt even know that character existed until this move and Im sure thousands, if not millions of people, are the same.
Man I went in the movie with very low expectations. Came out laughing at jokes I would just remember Deadpool saying randomly. Really good movie man I went and saw it again the next day. Deadpool and Wolverine work extremely well together and I didn’t expect that lol
I thought they were just gonna say it is the same wolverine from logan but before the X-Men were killed, i mean there's a long gap between days of future past and logan, they just needed to pick him up at that time damn it.
they could have got the cavelrine for this movie as maincast, but i think this fits better with jackman and a cameo was the best for now. they can add the cavelrine later to it. and people wouldnt be pissed. they would love it. maybe the movie after the next one. or additional to jackman in the next. but i think it will fit in secret wars.
I wouldn't read much into cameos that we didn't get (e.g. Affleck's Daredevil); it's likely the actors simply weren't available on the specific production days.
I don't think it's much better than the rest of the sludge we've been given since the start of Phase 4. I had a few chuckles, Hugh Jackman's performance is great, and the fight scene in the van is great. Those are probably the only things I liked about it.
The way I see it, this was the best possible product they could've made under disney's thumb. even though it has flaws and even though it could've been better, I still found it incredibly enjoyable and would easily watch it again! In the end, thats all that matters.

It wasnt nostalgia that made this a good movie. It was that is was a popcorn flick done well. And disney will not get that.
I like to be entertained when i got to a movie. This movie did that. I didn't have to think, just be entertained.
Blade rocked!
Love that ryan threatened to walk when disney wanted to include shehulk and captain marvel
100% one of my favourite movies of the year
Thank you for showing a picture of the 3rd act of the movie in your thumbnail. You spoiled me of a moment I've been waiting for 10+ years
And to quote a line from the movie (Spoilers ahead)
"Disney is going to have you coming back till you're 90 Logan" He was not wrong when RDJ came back but for Dr Doom
Same with Harrison Ford
The thing with Harrison ford is...that he wants to play Indiana Jones. These types of comments always puzzle me, cause sometimes the actor is also too attached to a role. And until people still like to see more of it and the actor wants to do more of it...then there is no harm.
11:44 "im also we never got a solo movie"
You cant be serious. The costume looks great. Im sick of the super realistic boring costumes that superheros have on movies, they miss the point. I want the fun colorful ones like Gambit. Comic book heros are meant to look realistic.
Thank you for not letting Disney screw this one up
Scary Movie part one was the first R movie I bought a ticket for when I turned 17.
7:15 except multiple people, including ryan reynolds and hugh jackman, have confirmed that the film WAS indeed finished
this was NOT and unfinished movie
"unfinished movies like deadpool and wolverine"
except no, ryan reynolds made it a POINT to ONLY release the movie once THEY WERE HAPPY WITH IT
which they did.
Glad to see you back MC, sending good thoughts too. Here’s a comment for the algorithm.
After WB fucked up Batman vs Superman, I don't believe anything can't be fucked up.
finally, a comic book movie
I found Deadpool a lot more annoying than in the first two. It feels like they completely disregarded the character they'd built up in the first 2 movies and replaced him with the comic book version who is entirely a joke and has no character to him beyond his gimmick.
He felt a lot closer Harley Quinn or She-Hulk.
Ryan Reynolds is a crappy actor; he just has a lot of charisma he skates on. And, ppl's love for tue DP comics.
Deadpool is so easily my favorite superhero, maybe because I’m also an annoying prick but hey I love this movie and this trilogy
Just watched it yesterday !!
Funny and quite enjoyable tbh
Hugh Jackman still has it !!
Let’s face it, nobody came to this movie for the plot. We were their to either laugh, ship the two or just have fun
Yes.. Why are marvel movies looking so dull?
This movie is so funny and unserious, yet it has genuine emotional moments and that’s crazy
Maybe they meant the worst as in the most pathetic... idk.
Calling Ryan Reynolds a one trick pony is wild.
I truly love you buddy. That Star Wars treatment for the next 20 years was my kind of vinegar commentary for movies. 😄😄
This movie was so FUCKING awesome
If you introduce the concept of reincarnation, the anchor being makes sense.
We got deadpool
We got deadpool and cable
We got deadpool and wolverine.
Theres only 1 left to round this up.
Deadpool and spiderman.
Dp is always paired with a stoic straightman lets see him team up with someone with a similar sense of humor but with morality and never swears.
Or wolverine n spiderman
Looking behind the scenses its really surprising how it actually turned out great.
The stuff Disney tried to put in or reel back. They essentially tried to control the entire project. It took Ryan, Hugh and the entire team to basically say "F off Disney let us make a film how we want to." And lookkng at some if the stuff Disney wanted to do. Telling them to f off was the best thing they could say.
First time in 24 years that we get the perfect wolverine. Shame on Hollywood aka 20th century Fox for failing this miserably
Movie is "references, Cameos and shallow jokes".
This movie was a joke.
I will say, I don't think a single solitary person went to see deadpool & wolverine for the story, everyone went for the cameos, and to see ryan renolds and hugh jackman on the same screen again.
Fun fact: In the Latin American Spanish dub of the movie Deadpool says the expression "¡Me meo!" (Which means "I'm gonna pee myself!") When he thinks that "Captain America" is going to say "Avengers assemble!" well, that's pretty much how anyone can feel when watching this movie.
the plot was kinda messy but i was in a pretty empty cinema and it was full of laughter. not a quick fix for the mcu but a step in the righ direction
Huge jacked man in the comic book suit is so amazing to me I love it
About the anchor beings, I thought they were talking about the characters who branched the timeline or are the focal point of the timeline.
When you said why not get the sacred timeline Logan... Didnt you see the timeline was disappeating already? All previous Logans probably gone already.
Bro your older thumbnail is way more courteous to people who haven’t seen this yet
When wolverine mask up. I cried. It was beautiful.
People don't like fun anymore.
Exactly
Man I went in the movie with very low expectations. Came out laughing at jokes I would just remember Deadpool saying randomly. Really good movie man I went and saw it again the next day. Deadpool and Wolverine work extremely well together and I didn’t expect that lol
Diznee did everything in their power to ensure it was f'ed up... Ryan deserves all the credit
Just because marvel has become self aware. Doesn't mean it's acceptable humor or jokes
Haven't seen it yet but a lot of things can be forgiven especially when Wolverine can be himself and Deadpool being Deadpool
A superhero movie for people who don’t like superhero movies
Spot on. Because that’s me
I wouldn't read much into cameos that we didn't get (e.g.
Since we’re talking about some gripes I will say I wish The Void didn’t look like Wisconsin…maybe they’ll fix that later.. still watched it twice.
The Void should clearly be along I-65 in parts of Indiana.
The way I see it, this was the best possible product they could've made under disney's thumb. even though it has flaws and even though it could've been better, I still found it incredibly enjoyable and would easily watch it again! In the end, thats all that matters.
