I am a 61 year old beginner and I am currently learning the E m pentatonic scale . I now know shape 1 2 and 3 .This is the most straight forward video I've seen. Your explanation and showing when to do bends & sldes is FANTASTIC. I'm now going to get my guitar & start playing the pentatonic scale. Thank you so much & I have subscribed to channel & so looking forward to learning the blues. Thank you .
Wow! Thank you, that's a great comment. Yes, that's exactly what I was aiming for: not just showing a scale, but how to play the notes within the scale to make something musical not just sound like running up and down the scale, which is usually how we all start soloing. Well, it was for me anyway
I agree with all the positive feedback , I’m not quite intermediate level but not a beginner… I’m like most of these guys, played a bit as a youngster, had zero discipline or theory interest.. now as a 42 year old , with help from guys like you lots of things start to click !! Thanks Marc !! You’re a great teacher
Just a note to all: I have played on and off for 35+ years as a self taught guitarist. Mostly collecting tabs and fixing to original songs. I play open, bar, and modified bar chords. Some theory. I’ve bought some blues courses but they never kept my interest. Marc’s turnaround lesson and simple playalongs in A turned on a light. It took a week (older age, I can’t practice for long) before I memorized my first lesson. I combined it with the turnaround lesson and started hearing variations in my head. Watching TV, I was hearing new variations in my head and would run to my guitar to try it. While playing along with a lesson, I started playing my own variations and finished the 12 bars in time. Everyone is different but a number of these lessons (I’m doing all in A so far) will go far to advancing blues improv. My next goal and suggestion would be a lesson of chords and solo notes combination or singing soloing (call response). Keeping it simple is great. Keep up the good work. Gives me something to do during lockdown as an expat in the Philippines.
What a great comment! Yes this is it exactly. I'm so pleased you were able to take my lessons and use the as a way into creating your own licks. This is exactly what I was aiming for. Thank you for such a great comment.

Thanks Kevin. You are exactly right. Like with all my lessons, mix these licks in with your own. You are right about the target notes that follow the chord changes; even on the simplest solo, I can't help doing that. Thanks for the great comment
Excellent channel Marc, it took about 20 seconds for me to sub. I love the simplicity as I've only been playing for just over a year and new to licks. Merry Christmas and a happy new year brother
You deserve 1M+ views for this. Basic no nonsense instructions to get me playing and sounding good very quickly is just what this advanced age beginner needs. I hate it when youtube teachers start easy and then effortlessly blast out some riff at a level that i know i will never attain as something to aspire to. It just demoralises me. So thank you again for keeping it simple. Here is my subscription. p.s. the 100 people who disliked this are morons
Wow, thank you for such a kind comment. That's exactly what I was aiming for with this lesson, trying to make a video that would help people get soloing. Thanks again, I really appreciate it

I'm thinking about putting some blues feel licks in my new song . It's gotta a punky Dead Kennedys feel to it . These patterns may just be what I'm looking for . Nice work 👍👍
Another superb lesson Mark! Like that you stay in A minor. Areal springboard for mixing sound and technique. Very cool that you added the tip about thumb positioning. I like bending, Gilmour is where I'm going, so that was huge. Regards.
Great lesson! It would be nice though if you would play the complete solo as a performance so one could play along with you and after that try it with the backingtrack.
Correct me if I’m wrong. At 10:16 where you discuss what beat you start on. The E note is at 3and, the G note is at beat 4 and the A is beat 1 of the next measure. You mention that you start on beat 4.
Hi! I've gone back to the solo and listened to the hi hat count in and you might be right, but I can't really tell! You probably are right. the important thing is that you land the A in the first beat of the next bar.
Came across one of your old tutorials and fell in love with the licks you taught! Couldn't find beautiful and melodic licks before, the ones you taught were awesome! Subscribed for more and checking out all your content too! Thanks :)

@@MarcGuitarVideos blues is my big passion , and I couldn't find a teacher for a very long time ... God bless you for everything you do for us! You have golden hands and very big warm heart! ♥️♥️♥️
@@ОксанаАфенкина Thank you! That's very kind.
Thanks Mark you keep it simple so it's easier to learn
Happy to help
Thanks. Great demo and explanation, it's amazing how much bang for your buck you get with blues phrasing.
I completely agree!
Thanks Marc that help me alot, wish you will make more video like this
There's more in this series! I've done 2 others for 'Ridiculously easy blues in Am'. They use the same backing tracking. I took the same concept and did a similar 'Play your first Acoustic Blues solo' and a 'Play your first rock guitar solo in Am'. If you look on my channel, I'm sure you'll find several other videos like this
Great Video. Nice to hear a local accent on youtube
What make is your strat? it looks and sounds cool
Cheers! It's a G&L S500. I got it in the late 90s. I've changed the pickups on it for Seymour Duncans, but to be honest the original ones were pretty great and I'll probably change them back at some point
Those whom are further along in their soloing can mix these examples with their scale work - Great target tones to follow chord changes.
Thanks! Really appreciate the comment and Merry Christmas to you too!
@@MarcGuitarVideos no worries credit where credits due
Great instruction. How can I get the tab.
hi @peterbocon4368 thanks very much. email me at marcellison75@gmail.com and ask for the tab for my best 5 blues lessons
Thanks again, I really appreciate it
@@MarcGuitarVideos p.s. I just set you a tip. Thanks again.
Great licks. Great method of teaching. Thank you my friend.
Thanks! Much appreciated
Great vids, could you show blues rift for amazing grace
Hi Tom - how does this sound? soundcloud.com/user-402863683/amazing-grace?
thanks for the help Marc. Very clear, this is what a lot of us beginners need, please more like this!
Thanks! Much appreciate the comment.
Thank you very much Marc. If I have to learn only one video lesson, then this will be it!
Just with this one video I can enjoy playing my guitar with amp and I do not feel a shame to be heard. Actually, I start exercising without amp 😄. Very encouraging. Cheers from Indonesia.
Thank you! That's such a great comment. I'm very glad this lesson was helpful for you
Very Nice vid Sir. More of that, very usefull.
Thanks Jan!
Thank you for your lessons Sir, very clear, easy and wonderful.
Thank you very much for the kind comment!
Hey Mark, I've been loving your demos, thanks so much for spending time doing this.
My pleasure! Thanks for such a kind comment. Its much appreciated
Thanks Marc. Great lesson. I'm a novice so I really appreciate your teaching style. Even little 'tips' like using finger 3 for the pentatonic scale.
Thanks Michael, that's good to know. Glad you like the lessons
Great , thanks Mark. I've aged loads of classical guitar and pop/rock. Now in
Lockdown in Spain so got the tele out and learning with you blues I've never studied before.
Brill
Hi Alan, its great to use this lockdown time to study and improve playing
Awesome mate thanks for sharing your skill learned heaps
Thank you for such a kind comment. I'm really pleased the lesson helped
This is really helpful you are amazing for taking time out of your way, to teach others how to create music again thank you.
Hi! Thanks so much for a great comment. I really appreciate it
This is great - Thanks so much! I have been stuck in the "playing the scales" mode - just can't seem to turn them into music. This is helping me get past that
That's excellent to hear! That's exactly why I make my videos. Thanks for your great comments
Another brilliant lesson Marc. I'm not a total beginner, I'm self taught and love the blues, but never found anything on yt that's helped me start to be able to play this genre, albeit rudimentary, like your videos. I feel I'm finally getting somewhere. Thanks for taking the time and effort to post them☺ It's also nice that you're a fellow northener (I live in Cheshire)!!
Thank you, that's very kind. I'm really pleased to hear that the videos are helping you. Cheshire is just down the road from where I grew up!
Great job and easy for a beginner like me thanks
Thanks Steve! I really appreciate the feedback
Appréciated tanks Marc :)

thanks a lot sir very beautifull licks and they can be combined very easily to create new ones!!Deffinatly gonna stick around please do more begginer blues stuff!!
Thanks Hustlah! The majority of my lessons are somewhere between beginner and intermediate. In fact one of my main aims is to help players make the leap from beginner to intermediate. Thanks very much for your kind comment.
I'm thinking about putting some blues feel licks in my new song . It's gotta a punky Dead Kennedys feel to it . These patterns may just be what I'm looking for . Nice work 👍👍
excellent lesson would love the Tab for this
send an email to marcellison75@gmail.com asking for the tabs for 'Play your first Blues Solo' video and I'll reply to your email with the tabs.
Oops! Just realise you already did and I already sent them this morning. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the support
Great idea, licks and lesson. Many thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Another superb lesson Mark! Like that you stay in A minor. Areal springboard for mixing sound and technique. Very cool that you added the tip about thumb positioning. I like bending, Gilmour is where I'm going, so that was huge. Regards.
Hi John - Bending is such a cool sound. I use it all the time. Gilmour is one of my fav guitarists
Hi Marc! Perfect Blues solo lesson. Could instantly play along the jam track and build extendet licks of my own. Subscribed! Cheers from Bavaria!
Thanks for the sub! I'm really pleased you liked it
Fantastic Mark 😊
Many thanks!
encore une bonne leçon , merci et …. joyeux noel !!!!
Merci beaucoup! Passez un bon Noël et un nouvel an
Aqui do Brasil aprendendo com você Marc
Obrigado
Great lesson! It would be nice though if you would play the complete solo as a performance so one could play along with you and after that try it with the backingtrack.
Hi Jan - I play the complete solo over the backing track from 1:29 in. Or did you mean something else?
@@MarcGuitarVideos Haha..I was to busy with the licks so I forgot all about the part starting on 1:29. That was not too smart of me, was it...?
Excellent mate, thanks 😁I've added u to my "Blues Licks an Riffs" Playlist. Liked an Subbed too👍
Awesome, thank you!
You probably are right. the important thing is that you land the A in the first beat of the next bar.
very helpful! many thanks
You're welcome!
Thanks Mark great tutorial explained well love it
Thanks Daniel!
Came across one of your old tutorials and fell in love with the licks you taught! Couldn't find beautiful and melodic licks before, the ones you taught were awesome! Subscribed for more and checking out all your content too! Thanks :)
Excellent! Thanks Nisa. I really appreciate the comment
Hello Marc,
I am learning Guitar only for a few months and I never expected I could play a Solo like this after such a short time.
But it worked - thanks to your lesson - and I gained much more confidence on my painful journey to become a Guitarist.
Thank you very much for this great sounding solo lesson.
