"You share a heart with him." Loustat Streetcar Scene | Interview With the Vampire 1x07

  • "You spend an hour alone with him and you're breathing in sync together."
    In this scene from Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire, Claudia and Louis telepathically talk about their plan to k-word Lestat. Claudia knows that she can't trust Louis with the whole plan because they share a coffin together. He shares a heart with Lestat and she knows he can't cut him off entirely. Definitely one of my favorite scenes from the series.

The fact that she says she'll pull him back out is wild to me. It's tragic to see how in love with Lestat Louis was even after everything he had done to him when Claudia came back. Jacob Anderson brings so much to this version of Louis, I was a stauch Louis-disliker while reading the books and watching the film but show!Louis has my entire heart.

      Agree. I loved the stories but never particularly cared for Louis or about Louis and Lestat as a couple. Loustat from the show though, man it's heartbreaking. I just want them to go to supernatural couples therapy and family counseling. Find Claudia a companion of her own and be one big happy family of four even though I already know how all this plays out.

      Yes. I did NOT care for Louis from the books at all. I DO think TV Louis IS manipulative by being emotionally withholding, but I can relate to him more being a black, gay man myself. And the fact this Louis DOES show Lestat love at times. BUT he was DEAD-WRONG 4 treating Lestat like a non-entity while Claudia had left for 7yrs & blaming it on Lestat when HE was the 1 who begged Lestat to "make 🧛🏽‍♀️" her, though Lestat warned him it was a bad idea. Lestat KNEW her mind would quickly outgrow her child-like body & she would grow to resent them for it. But Louis wanted what he wanted, & when Claudia called him on his selfishness in making her --- he projects the blame onto Lestat though Lestat stood by him the whole time Claudia was gone.

    It sounds weird but I like the addition of the segregated streetcar (I noticed it instantly, interesting to see that others didn't on first watch!). A desperately sad reminder of the reality of Louis and Claudia's situation in the 1900s, which shouldn't be forgotten. Louis and Lestat winking at each other was a sweet touch.

      Lestat is extremely faithful to the loving bond they built. Louis died in his human life, in Lestat's arms, and was reborn in his life. Home (love) is an indestructible bond, and even though Lestat has extramarital relationships, it is banal in his conception, as his sense of fidelity transcends what humans understand. The love he has for Louis is unique, indestructible, passionate, devoted, just like Louis who will understand later.

    The brilliance of this scene is that in retrospect, it is very obvious that Lestat is reacting to their conversation and can hear everything they’re saying in real time, but because the audience doesn’t know about Antoinette , we think it’s impossible and a misdirection.

    This scene is so sweet it hurts. It's just heartbreaking to me. Louis has my whole ass heart, he has a greater hols on me then book Louis ever did... and how Claudia is using him here, is so heartless. It really shows that she doesn't understand love. Which is something so tragic about her, but this right here really shows exactly why this was such a massive miscalculation in her overall plan. She tried to wield their love for eachother, and Lestats near blind obsession for Louis... she tried to wield it like a weapon. Her thinking she could use it, that she could control it, and furthermore that Louis was just another pawn to her, in her game against Lestat. Its just tragic and heartbreaking, all around. Trauma.

    • @RowensARTstudio
      @RowensARTstudio 8 місяців тому +2

      @mariammeliksetian7916 Not sure why that's funny to be honest. Seeing as how Louis was written to embody Anne herself, when she was completely swallowed by the grief of losing her daughter. Louis, as a character was born out of that pain. So to read a character dealing with depression and grief and misery from losing a loved one, and to say "he should just kill himself"... is a bit off. I'm sorry I can't share in the "joke" seeing as how I'm someone who actually has to deal with alot of the problems that Louis does. And was told myself, by my own abuser that everyone else's life would be better/happier if I did in fact do just that... and that being one of the reasons that as a kid, I connected to Louis so much... sorry I can't laugh at that, or share that sentiment 🤷🏽‍♀️

      Your analysis is totally correct. The TV version highlighted the strategic but cruelty of Claudia. Wasn't a mistake. Louis literally saved his life. In the book it was Claudia that killed him, Louis stood there and did nothing because he was in shock. And seeing how Louis' recount of the whole thing is all messed up, and alot of the factors of it match the book more than even the 1994 movie did... I'm betting money, that we'll see he couldn't actually go through it in this rendition as well. He couldn't kill Lestat at the end, refused to allow Claudia to really kill him, then saved his life. And that's why Claudia hates him, after... but who knows, anything can happen
