I’ve always wanted to debadge my Scat Pack and put a custom decal in the trunk of my car, but the area would still not be protected from scratches. Also Vinyl Decals tent to catch rags when cleaning an peel up. After a few weeks of trial and error I found the solution to my scratching issue and also installed my custom decal in a way that will protect it maintaining my blacked out look.

The logo is outstanding. The contrast there will be terrific and while the "Dodge" is now absent, I think that adds a lot of "zing" to the back-end.

Awesome look! I have always wondered what to do with that space. I removed the DODGE logos as well and use some plastix scratch remover to clean it up. Stays good for a while but after a few washes, it has swirls again. Finally i bit the bullet and had the car coated is ceramic 9h pro and all my issues went away. Now i have a swirl free car and the ceramic 9h pro keeps it that way.
Thank you, same issue it would never stay scratch free. I agree Ceramic coating is a great option, but for my plans with wrapping the car I could not get my car coated since the coating would not allow the wrap to stick.

I've got a burnishing tool that I got from an overstock store that would work for the detail work inthe "embossing" idea. A thicker initial vinyl might help to emphasize the logo too. This is cool! (you've just started cutting away material).

I'm digging the decal at the beginning and I did pause the video to type this. I just bought a new 2022 Challenger and as a matter of fact... I noticed a bunch of scratches in the same spot on my car so I definitely need to watch and finish this video because I have less than 1500 miles on the clock and see a bunch of freaking scratches and not happy about it at all. Just bought the car a month ago and its totally mint everywhere else on the car but right there and its driving me crazy with my ocd... I gotta do something about this too lol !!!

I did this after watching the video and it looks GREAT! combine this with the Luxe covers in the rear and it looks better ... and very unique. I put an emblem that says Challenger between the tail lights under the vinyl wrap and it looks mean.

I've been talking to the owner about this, hopefully we can put something together no make this an easier DIY pre-cut solution.
that would be amazing if there was some type of kit you could come up with, doesn't seem too expensive and I know i'd buy it if its not too difficult, while not having to hire a detail guy to install it. seems like such a great dyi project and it seems like no one else has come up with something creative to use that space other than a badge delete, good work!

I removed Dodge lettering, made a license-plate size backplate out of diamond tread aluminum, painted it black, and affixed to it a 13" 3D printed "Challenger" in the Challenger script after painting it. I also installed U-channel rubber molding (with open channel facing upwards} all along that seam above the tail lights; it eliminated 80-90% of the dreaded "trunk weeping" after washing.

Filling the area between the tail lights with an embossed logo was a great idea. It would be too large if it was any color on black. I like it. I removed the DODGE letters from my Scat Pack and replaced them with a flat black Scat Pack decal. I like the subtle look but like you said the microfiber towel catches the edges of the decal and it doesn't hide the scratches.
I've seen a few with the Scat Bee and really like that decal. one of my original designs was going to be that bee embossed, but I opted for my logo instead.
This looks like an amazing weekend project, loved the way it came out man, keep up the good work. Definitely have to try this out myself.

I swear this area gets scratched up on its own. I have had scratches show up even when I haven’t accessed the trunk in awhile. I live in a dusty environment though. Interesting solution, and as always an informative video
I gave up on dealing with the scratches. The 3M 1080 matte black has held up well

I've got the same problem with my Charger. I'm got to use Luxe tint film to cover the entire rear taillight. I like the matte black theme of your car and by the way, the lettering doesn't look that bad from what I can tell. 👍🏾
DK Holloway as soon as we can get the ceramic coating off a friends challenger we will be tinting out his tails with the Luxe DIY kit. He wants all the red gone. Can't wait to try this out.

I have seen this mod lately in a few challengers, I do agree that it is a pain to deal with that scratchable surface of that area but the subtle/clean design solution that dodge designers put into putting that detail of the dodge badge was the best solution(in my opinion) I find it attractive and simple anything that people wants to do with it is all about taste or preference, some want to be purist some want to stand out. i probable won't do mine but i would like to find a solution to that scratchable glossy surface :)
As another option for you why not debadge lay down the matte film then put the badges back. That was one of my original designs. I was going to black out the badges as well.

Work Play Drive I want to get myself a T/A 392 and put a Shaker on it. A boy can dream.
I love the T/A but adding the shaker takes away from the active intake on the hood. Have you seen the new Super Scat Pack? 6 piston brembos, suspension upgrades and you won't lose anything if you drop a shaker on it! You will of course lose the awesome T/A striping and White gauges though

Use Plexus on that part of the trunk, the spray is made for acrylic and other plastic parts, the spray is mainly used for visors on a motorcycle helmet so it won't scratch as well as wipe with a microfiber cloth towel.
I like the matte finish better for now, but if I ever go back to gloss I'll polish it and give Plexus a shot, it's definitely cheaper than a ceramic coating :)

it's doable, the taillights give you a nice line to tape with the knife less. I saw a car at #SF12 with a printed wrap on the whole back panel around the lights, it' looked real nice.

Quick question. What do u recommend to take out scratches from the taillight divider? Mine has kind off a big scratch on it and was wondering how to at least make it look not as bad.
For this you may want to go to a pro. Depending on the depth it’s a mix of different pads and grits to take out the scratch then polish it out. It takes some skill not to burn the plastic.
I like it a LOT and also share your frustration in that the Charger's don't have a solid fix for this either. The Jokey, Gooney >SNAP< every time of the plastic insert that we're supposed to grab under the trunk lid is terrible and - inevitably, the spoiler we have becomes a "handle" for both my wife and daughter. This "strap" idea is solid and - I just bought a series of extra ones from Stupid Car Tray. I wonder if those might work too?

hey do you know if that knifeless tape would work with vinyl tint film? I have a 2015 challenger and been wanting tint out my tail lights completely but I'm horrible at cutting vinyl clean and straight. I'm probably gonna curve it around the light like kinda how you are doing.
The knife less should work, funny you should say that... I have a roll of Vinyl tint waiting for application on a 15 hellcat, we are going to trace to the outside of the red ovals so the entire tail is blacked out. There has been a delay though, I'm waiting for him to have his ceramic coating removed from the lights so the vinyl will stick.

Nope with just a little heat the pop right off. My new method is to use a small plastic pry tool and without touching the black plastic catch the edge of the letter and lift.

Hey! So, I'm a little confused as to how you de-scratched the black portion after you debadged. I'm in the market for the larger Challenger Script Emblem, so I'm going to debadge once I find one at the right price, but I want to be able to get all the nasty swirl patterns and scratches off the black after I debadge. I noticed you linked clay for the Vinyl process, but it looked like you used a solution or something after you debadged. Was that just soap or something else? Cause I'm not looking to cover mine over as you did, I just wanna clean it up before I put the script emblem on it. Thanks! Love the content and the finished product, though! Looks great! I like that it turned out subtle!
The scratches can be polished out with a plastic polish or a very fine grit polish and a mini rotary polisher. The sad part is it only lasts a few months before it's all covered in swirls again. I finally gave up and put the vinyl to cover the area. luxe makes a 3 layer decal with the challenger script just in case you're interested. bit.ly/Luxe3layer

great vid! do you buy chance think the knifeless tape will work on tint? Im trying to tint the red portion of my challenger taillights and im not sure how else to get the precise lines since they dont have custom tint kits for just the red portion.

that trunk pull is awesome I need to get that i use to close the trunk thru the spoiler but i always left finger prints, now i do a maneuver that is about grabbing the inside and rapidly pulling down and out so a dont get caught lol. yeah i need that trunk pull :) it would be cool and automatic open and close kind of like the charger but I think that one only opens automatically
I found that trunk pull one day while looking up the DIPS Screen for someone. I was like holy crap I need one of these.
I wanted something that overlayed the Dodge logo without having to debadge. Something that just fit right over the Dodge letter but protected the black plastic area. I reached out to Luxe and they don’t make anything that just has a center cut out

awesome fix for that horrible gloss black scratch collector. I have barely 1000 miles on my scat pack and already have scratches back there...I dont even touch it, the dealership added their custom performance scratch package free of charge.
Lol my was the factory swirl package :) sadly no horsepower gains due to all the wind resistance.
That divider/center always bothered me; sorta cheap-ish looking and begs to be scratched... Thanks for the Luxe discount; just ordered some for my SRT.

i like it and may try this on mine but for me i would want to put the dodge letters back on. Would need to see what options are available to use to put them back on. On the profile underneath, i like it but maybe the side profile would work better.
I'm assuming you can use any automotive grade double stick tape. The original adhesive was toast.... The side profile looks good too, but I wanted my brand on the back for that personal touch.

It's up to you, you can replace it, remove it or go with a custom one...

when you debadge the dodge logo was there any discoloration underneath? any trace of the letters being there afterwards? please advise
On mine there as no scratches where the badge was so it was noticeable, When I did my friends car yesterday it was really noticeable. when you debadge the plastic you will need to polish the area to make it even.

Hey bro...i have 2016 sxt plus.what would u recommend me for the exhaust...i just want litle deep tone.. can u plz suggest me anything... i knw it cant be compare to v8... but somthing closer to v8..deep sound
Exhaust tone is a very personal choice, so what sounds awesome to me may not sound good to you. Your best bet for advice is to join a challenger group, these discussions happen weekly and I know for a fact they can sound really nice if done' correctly. Usually with the exhaust you go with an intake as well

as you can see both offer different sounds
If you decide to go with a replacement exhaust system you will need to do some browsing to find the tone you want. while it's always best to listen to these sounds in person before buying you can at least narrow down the tone you want by watching various videos in different setups people put on UA-cam. In addition to the brand and type of exhaust added Pay very close attention to the following items once you find the sound that you like
Pipe diameter
Cold air Intake added?
what parts of the original exhaust remain (Mid Mufflers, Cats, Resonators)

Should of closed the trunk, and back up the cam for an overall finished view..?
It does match the spoiler & Scat stripe.
Look at 13:09 for photos. The 3M 1080 M12 vinyl does not match the scat pack stripe exactly. the difference is totally unnoticeable when applied to that are of the trunk.
Anyone know how to adjust the trunk on these challengers to get the lights even?
The trunk lid is adjusted at a few points, depending on how bad your alignment is you may be able to adjust in the following order.
- If the trunk lid is aligned with the top of the fenders perfectly and the lights are not you should be able to open the trunk and loosen the wing nuts holding the lights in place depending on the alignment you may need to adjust the lights in the right or left fender or the assembly in the trunk lid. Loosen the wingnuts just enough to allow the light to move, but remain still so you can pop open the trunk and tighten once perfect. Close the trunk adjust all lights to your liking then open and tighten them down.
- if the trunk lid AND lights are off a bit the over slam bumpers are your first adjustment. These are hex head rubber pieces that can be turned in or out of the rear bumper to lift and lower each side of the trunk lid. This is a simple adjustment but I've seen in one or 2 occasions where this needs to be done along with the Light adjustment. If it's too far off and you can't get it aligned with the next step may help.
- The trunk latch can be accessed by removing the carpet blocking it. Then loosen the bolts holding it in place and adjust evenly up or down depending on your needs. From there you can then try adjusting the bumpers and/or lights again to even it out if needed.
- In the case where the trunk does not align with the fender and the sides are uneven (not the lights) the hinges need to be adjusted. I have not done this yet and after replacing my hood and aligning that perfectly this is a more advanced task and may require the dealer's help unless you are the adventurous type like me and don't mind messing with it for a few hours.

I was looking for the initial reactions too :) when I put on the first layer I was like "hell no" too bright. I am really eyeing the diffuser, I want to check it out a little more and make sure it's not going to cause an issue. I already have to back into my driveway due to the incline... It'll be a while I'm working on something pretty big and learning how to do it is eating up most of my free time.

could you do this without the under logo, and put the letters back on?
Yes just do a good post heat and give the vinyl 48 hours to set before adding the letters back. If you use the 3m 1080 M12 Matte Black you can clean it with 70% Isopropyl alcohol without damaging the film before sticking down the letters. You will need to clean off the letters and use a good automotive trim adhesive and hand cut to size.

initial thought is that the logo is somewhat unreadable.... I usually like your mods and you in fact inspired me to do a few to my own Scatpack so I don't want to sound like a hater. I have to say that to me, your logo looks more like the rear end of a 64 Impala. I do see what is supposed to be the shaker on the hood but it still looks like an old Chevy. I'm probably in the minority on this one. Either way, keep making these great vids and I'll keep watching and liking them!
lol, well i did try to trace the outline of my front end in photoshop, then I cut what I now feel is the defining parts the grill and headlights out to put my name. I'm going to revisit this in the future once all my other projects are done.
I suck at photoshop so I'm not insulted. I was however going for the not too visible look. this video has inspired some others to do some cool images in the same manner, which I find very cool! I've gotten a few tags on instagram and have loved every one of them.
