Great video thank you. Currently I am looking at a used 2014 glk350 with 90k miles and a 2017 glc300 with 109k miles. Which of the two engines is the more reliable with good maintenance of course?
we have been doing them for yrs. ( I work for MB as well) the wrist pin specs are not correct from the factory and cylinders 1 & 4 were breaking ring lands. 2 hottest cylinders.
May I ask which of the OBD devices that are not to expensive show the pressure on pistons in engine? I have seen in one video in diagnostics the pressure on each piston. Also do you maybe know are there any different sounds from engine when there is issue on pistons or we just get light for engine? thanks on info
@@MercedesBenzTipsTricks does Mercedes fix this issue for free typically? I have the 2015 c300 with a piston that's been banging against the cylinder wall.....they say the entire engine needs to replaced....but here, you are just replacing the piston....I am confused.
@@TenaciousZenIf the issue is caught early enough and there’s little to no scoring on the cylinder wall they can replace the piston, but if any scoring is found the require an engine replacement
Hello, the piston on cylinder 4 has cracked on my M274.920 and caused internal damage. The cylinder would habe to be Drilled and honed as well as fitted with a larger piston. Mercedes tells me they cant provide me with sich a piston. Please let me Know which Piston you Used and the parts number.
Would love your honest take on: How often does this actually occur? The internet makes it sound like 99% of GLC300s w the M274 will inevitably fail before 100K miles. But what is the truth? Is it only like 10% of GLCs will die before 100K or perhaps even 1% and the internet is just making it seem horrible?
Usually around 100k but there are various of factors to consider because each individual Mercedes owners are different. The most important thing is the maintenance. “If you’re taking of your vehicle, your vehicle will take care of you”
@@MercedesBenzTipsTricks Thanks! Aside from getting oil changes regularly and using the right oil, what are driving habits to avoid? I've heard all kinds of advice, which one is useful?: 1. disabling auto stop/start, 2. letting engine warm up before driving, 3. keeping low RPM at low gear; 2000 RPM max for 2nd gear, 3000 RPM for 3rd gear, 4000 RPM for 4th gear, 5000 RPM for the rest. 4. no sudden acceleration while already at highway speeds.
Warm up an engine and just not abuse or beat up the engine on acceleration because this engine is not a racing engine. This engine is built for daily driving and comfortable.

Replacing a piston is crazy! Never seen this being done on a relatively new car….

Did you take the transmission prior? Or did you take the bolts off and disconnect the block from the transmission on the car?
I have a question!! Please! What we need note when installing the dynamic balance shaft?
When on DTC, it should be a mark on it. You can a factory that already on it or you can mark it before removing it.
Set DTC #1 on compression stroke, it should have mark on the balance
Hello, what's wrong with the pistons? High mileage on the car?
#1 Piston has a cracked!
@@MercedesBenzTipsTricks Thank you!

Exactly.
My m274 engine was replaced at 110K km. Very bad car. Do not buy Mercedes with m274.
