  • A quick IFR flight in the stock Cessna C172 in Microsoft Flight Simulator, taking a look at programming a route into the G1000, then flying it - investingating the various PFD options, operating the autopilot along the way through the various CDI and HSI modes, and navigating by VOR, GPS flight plan, and selected heading. We finish with an ILS approach.
    02:11 Programming the Flight Plan into the G1000
    07:01 Explaining the Primary Flight Display symbology
    09:47 Takeoff!
    11:44 Switching autopilot to GPS mode
    12:48 Programming NAV1 and switching to VOR navigation
    19:28 Changing our altitude
    22:52 Exploring the PFD
    27:13 Descending
    28:55 Changing course at RBL
    30:13 Navigating towards the ILS
    41:20 On the localizer
    42:47 Switching to manual approach to illustrate symbology
    48:33 Finals
    49:07 Landing
    p.s. I discovered what causes the bad audio - it won't happen next time :)
    Disclaimer - I'm not a real pilot! I just like messing around with simulators. If you spot a mistake (like running the engine flat out for the first fifteen minutes of the flight), please go easy on me lol.

    This is really simple and straightforward, thank you. MFS encourages not to learn about the aircraft because the fuel supply is already on, etc., so that beginners can take off in a couple of clicks. But I needed a more detailed explanation and I got it, thanks.

      Really great tutorial. Just a tip to the commenter, this usually happens to me if I spawn in on a runway or somewhere the plane should be started. Or maybe it’s an assistance setting?

    I have just progressed from VFR so this was an excellent introduction to a glass cockpit, thanks very much.

    There is a lot to learn in this vid. I have to watch it again. Cheers.

    When using a VOR you will be flying a radial to or from a VOR station. Beacons are associated with NDB's, nondirectional beacons. The ADF (Automatic Direction Finder) radio is used to tune in a radio beacon. When using an ADF you will fly what is known as relative bearings. Very specific language is used when using radio navigation, I hope this helps when describing the use of these navigation aids.

    Hi Jonathan, is there any difference between entering a flight plane in the MS world map and in the cockpit as you video shows?.

  • @GeorgeRon
    @GeorgeRon Рік тому +1

    Hi Jonathan
    Thanks a lot for your video. Whats the hack to plug in a route directly from LNMap into the G1000 rather than manually programming it?

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Рік тому

      In the map screen of MSFS, go to "more", then load - you can load a PLN file. After doing that, the aircraft will be pre-programmed with the route.

    Thank you for the great explanation, now I have 1 question when I am outside the plane then I see information in the corners in 3 different instruments, how can I remove that so that I only see the plane without the instruments.

      It's the HUD information - it took me 2 seconds to google it - Options->Camera->Chase Camera->Instrument Heads-Up Display->Off

    I thought you are not supposed to turn on electronics until the engine is on... to avoid electricity spikes that can damage the electronics? Correct me if I am wrong.

      The aircraft hasn't always been *that* accurate :) I updated this video recently, and provided some documentation - ua-cam.com/video/jOaxtnbDqqk/v-deo.html

      I prefer to record stock aircraft videos unless I'm specifically showing a mod. Most people just have the stock aircraft.

      Hold the right mouse button down, and you can pan the camera with the mouse. The cursor keys will let you slide the camera from side to side. If you re-map the up and down keys, you can slide forwards and backwards too :)
