  • You can now use built-in relays on a Victron Cerbo GX device to control things based on temperature data using a Ruuvi Bluetooth sensor. See the links below for an overview of Ruuvi's main products as well as step-by-step instructions for connecting an out-of-the-box Ruuvi to a Cerbo GX, how to set a relay controlled by temperature data coming from the Ruuvi, and how to set alerts in Victron's Remote Monitoring platform (VRM):

    What makes the Ruuvi so groovy? The Ruuvi is a durable, wireless sensor that measures temperature, air humidity, air pressure and movement. They are extremely easy to set up and with the new Cerbo GX integration, can be monitored from anywhere in the world using VRM. Place them anywhere (your rental cabin, RV, shop, garage freezer, sauna, greenhouse etc.), and set alarms in VRM to send you an email notification when a space is too hot or cold.

    Will this work with the color control Gx ? If not what sensor do you recommend for live vrm temperature monitoring for color control?

      Hi there, this firmware update is unique to the Cerbo GX and the GlobalLink. I am not aware of another product that offers similar functionality with older GX devices. The Cerbo is a really powerful communications hub with lots of potential for advanced controls and product integrations like this one, thus Victron's focus on the Cerbo during this collaboration with Ruuvi.

    Can the vrm and cerbo gx monitor the other functions besides temperature? Can the relay be programmed if motion or humidity ect change?

    Great video! Can this be used as the "holy grail" for everyone out there using cheaper Lithium batteries and Orion DC to DC chargers? The big problem with cheap lithium batteries: no low temperature cut off. The big problem with the Orion - it doesn't talk to the VE Smart Network and it has no temperature awareness. Using a Ruuvi sensor on the batteries, could one have the Cerbo toggle the relay at 5 degrees and use this as the remote toggle for the Orion to stop charging the batteries when too cold? (video idea!)

      @intelligentcontrols  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, you can do pretty much anything you want with the temperature controlled relay - which is new with the most recent firmware on the Cerbo GX. It’s really fun to see what people keep coming up with!

    How well does bluetooth get out of the metal shell on a refrigerator or freezer?

    • @intelligentcontrols
      @intelligentcontrols  Рік тому

      Hi Nic, the Bluetooth range on the Ruuvi sensors is really impressive, over 600 feet without any obstructions. If you are putting it in a metal enclosure, that range will be diminished but it's still going to be pretty good. I've yet to lose contact with the Ruuvi's placed in my freezer or machine shop. Here's a good FAQ resource from Ruuvi with more details about its range. ruuvi.com/faq/

    What about the Colour Control?

    • @intelligentcontrols
      @intelligentcontrols  2 роки тому

      Hey, good question. This will not work with the Color Control - that’s the older controller without Bluetooth or the right firmware to talk to the Ruuvi sensor.

    • @Kosmonooit
      @Kosmonooit 2 роки тому

      @@intelligentcontrols I'll disagree that the Colour Control GX is an "older product', its still current and does much the same job as the Gerbo, less I/O ports, no built in WiFi & Bluetooth etc but that is often not needed. Also has small but useful colour touch screen, with the Gerbo you have to hook up an external hmdi screen. The Venus is the older model, much the same as the Colour Control but but with no screen or display port.
      Actually its a pity Victron does not do more work in making the controllers more generalised and useful (beside these environmental sensors). Like being able to monitor I/V/Power/Theta in other circuits. I recently tried this with their power meter to measure, monitor and log the upstream mains feed: waste of time, its only supported for a certain function. Would be useful if one could use these more than capable Modbus power monitors for whatever circuits you choose and these could be integrated with the controller screen and VRM.

      @@Kosmonooit, you're right that Color Control GX has a lot of the same functionality as the Cerbo GX. It seems that at this time at least, Victron is focused on progressing the Cerbo and the GlobalLink (which also just got a firmware update to support the use of Ruuvi sensors which is really cool. We'll share a video about that soon as well.) So anything is possible. As we wrote about in the blog about this Ruuvi-Cerbo integration, Victron designs products knowing that there are improvements they would like to make in the future through a firmware update which is really cool. We like to say that it's as if every product has a secret potential waiting to be revealed. :) All to say, anything is possible. Thanks, Laura

    Doesn't work any more. I bought one and it won't connect.
    I wanted to connect to Victron GX-cerbo, but the RUUVI is bluetooth, and the bluetooth is deprecated on the Cerbo. On the Victron website it's explicit that bluetooth is only for initial set up.
    There's no blutooth menu item on the cerbo setup with the latest firmware.
    There's no bluetooth sensors menu item in the I/O menu
    From the victron website, Guy Stewart has posted:
    "The built in bluetooth functionality in the Cerbo GX is limited to the initial configuration of an external wifi network.
    Due to a limitation with the built-in bluetooth chip only operating at low temperatures, in order to see the built-in bluetooth connection the unit must be cold, such as when it first starts up. The built-in bluetooth availability can then disappear once the unit warms up (depending on ambient temperature and other loads on the Cerbo).
    This is obviously not ideal, but the work around is that this external wifi network configuration function is also available via the built in wifi hotspot (connection details to this built in wifi hotspot are shown on a sticker on the Cerbo GX, and more details available in the Cerbo GX manual."
    Will Ruuvi bring out a WiFi version?

      Robduino, sorry for the late reply to your comment. You’re right that the Bluetooth radio on the Cerbo GX turns off in high temperatures. We've seen this a few times with our customers. But you can always add an external Bluetooth radio for the Cerbo. Victron tested and recommends a few (See the link near the bottom of our blog icmontana.com/blogs/technical-articles/monitor-temperature-on-victrons-cerbo-gx-using-ruuvi-sensors). We sell this Bluetooth radio to customers that are buying Ruuvi sensors and already have a Cerbo. This little radio simply plugs into your Cerbo and will reactivate that Bluetooth functionality. There are lots of options for this. We've just gotten good results from this little guy: icmontana.com/products/tp-link-usb-bluetooth-adaptor

    67€ is too expensive for a wireless meteo sensor imo.

    • @intelligentcontrols

      I'm sure there are lots of options out there but we love how the RuuviTags integrate with existing monitoring systems. Bluetooth communication to a Victron Cerbo GX and being able to see all system health and performance data from the VRM portal is pretty killer. If you're using the sensors as a stand-alone, the Ruuvi Station mobile app is really nice and fun to check in on, set alerts, etc.

    I find it ironic and a little annoying that the Cerbo GX can do all kinds of fancy things with a Ruuvitag but it can't display a simple temperature reading on the Touch 50 home page without resorting to GUIMod.

      Hi @timothylinn Yes, we've been waiting for this too! Ruuvi tag temps and humidity will be available from the new "Environment" tab on the new Victron GX GUI, coming in the first quarter of 2024. Wish there was a way for me to upload a screenshot in the comment, too. It looks so nice.
