I had a legit GFM to help me pay off my cancer treatment. It was closed after 1 year without any donations. Yet I hear countless stories of people making scam GFMs and getting thousands and it just makes me shake my head.
This is why people don't often want to help people in need, because of the risk of scammers. My suggestion to anyone wanting to help someone, instead of giving them money. Offer to actually buy them something, like a sandwich (or a blanket, clothes, etc) or try and find a service/place that helps support the homeless. Although I wouldn't just advise you to buy someone something, just in case of things like allergies or health issues, always ask first. Any scammer isn't going to want actual help, they're there for your money. Unless they're really committed to playing the long game and their role, most won't accept such help.
This is why I have doubts about gofundme. Because of people like this. I’ll need to see an authentic article or news or genuine pics to make sure that it’s the truth and not a fabricated or twisted lie. I hope those people who donated got their money back

it’s always the people that don’t need it. i was given 500 in donations after i was illegally abandoned by foster care after being abused as a disabled very sick teen after being homeless for a long time while battling a tumour and a huge surgery. that 500 got me on my feet. now i live on 700 a month. sorry i’m just pissed these kinds of people get donations that could cure me and make my life whole again (as in adequate care to continue my highschool career and get a job even)
