In 1917, France almost accidentally executed one of their OWN greatest soldiers. Fortunately, he lived-and his story ended up being so crazy that if Hollywood made a movie on it, people would complain about it being TOO unrealistic…
If you're new here, hey! My name is Andy Jiang and I do clearly explained, extremely detailed dives into some of the most fascinating, bizarre, and unreal untold true stories that are out there. Subscribe and turn on all post notifications so you don’t miss any of my weekly uploads!

Hey everyone! Starting next Wednesday (October 4th), all future Hidden Stories will be migrating to a new, separate channel for clarity and simplicity. All of the current stories will still remain up on this channel, but all new videos moving forward will be posted on the new "Hidden Stories" UA-cam channel here: www.youtube.com/@hiddenstoriesYT. If you want to continue keeping up with the weekly stories and my Hidden Stories series, subscribe to this new channel ✌
DONE!!! I'm subscriber #7!!!!
WOOP WOOP!! 🎉🎉🎉
@@cannablissdreams danggg haha! #7 is insane, you'll look back one day and that number will be quite a bit higher hopefully 😆 here from day 1

You Should Upload the old videos on this channel
when you are so OP in the first season that the screenwriters decides to kill you off randomly and 5 months before the sequel starts, just to prolong the series.
As a French, thanks you for sharing this story, I didn’t know at all about him
im france too and i want to say merci for telling this story
🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🍜🍜🍜🍜
Since you're French I have a question for you. Do you think Andy speaks French? It sounds like he has an accent or something when he's saying the names of people and places.
@@kristaprice1954 I think he might have taken French courses because his pronunciation, which is overall really good, with for example his Rs, but he’s not fluent.
@@kristaprice1954 idk
Man, that’s insane… what an incredible human being and ridiculously courageous solider 😮❤ and on one hand, so tragic that after all that, he was killed by a speeding car on his way home… but on the other hand, I’m so happy for him and his family that he survived fulfilling what he (rightly so) declared was his destiny, and that he was able to see 20 years of peace and a new life after the war, and glad that he received the recognition for his insane contributions to his country.
On a separate note, good to know about the Hidden Stories new channel happening! Hope you’ll put out a trailer or something to make more people aware of the move-I only noticed your comment about it here by chance when I popped in to leave my comment ❤ looking forward to more stories-you’re an incredibly talented researcher and storyteller, my dude 😊 👏
i’ve never seen a truer comment
You're one of the best true-story creators, and a breath of fresh air. I love your spirit. Wishing you much success.
I agree with your sentiments 100%!!!!
I agree with you. His content is amazing
This story absolutely blew me away actually!! Like I know a lot about WW1 as it’s very instrumental in WW2 so to hear this story only for the main character to die in the same year WW2 started is crazy to me. Who knows, maybe when WW2 started and if had not died he would be in a commanding position in the French army because that man has some serious skill and thank you so much for telling us this story Andy, it really is a sight to behold!! See you next week and keep up the absolutely amazing work!!
if he was offered it he seems like the kind of guy who would reject it, kinda like private smithy of the AIF
It's sad to think how many Albert-'s there are out there, that weren't quite as fortunate to get the recognition. He has been so close to not making it for numerous reasons, that there's probably 1000 soliders with more fascinating stories, but more tragic endings.
Bros out here casually dropping the best stories ever
only thing this video need is “the first soldier” by sabaton in the background
This almost happened to me, but it was my own platoon that almost pushed me to suicide and I was damaged for life and the VA won't even talk to me or never have given me anything the military said they would and since I am rated at 100% disabled the VA thinks it knows 100% of what I went through, but the military never asked me any questions and I have never told any doctors what happened, but the VA has told me if I wanted to talk to someone about my military experiences that I would have to pay a private doctor and now I keep civilian female doctors tell me "I know," when I said I wanted to talk about what I went through in the army, but after I am so deeply insulted and then they send me away.
This dude went from prisoner to no, you’re the prisoner that’s insane
I cant get enough of your story telling and the editing of the videos, its so good!
Sabaton has a song about this soldier! It's called "The First Soldier" and I highly recommend everyone give it a listen b/c it's a great song!

Literally almost killed by a soldier, ended up killed in an accidents sounds insane to me.
I normally don’t do this but since you were talking about giga chad soldiers I thought, why not one on Kurt Chew-Een Lee. He was a Asian American soldier who fought in the Korean War.
I used your link for Better Help! Thank you! Your openness and honesty is wonderful to hear. I actually started feeling better after the first session. Just sharing what was weighing on me was a great help, but I still meet weekly with the therapist and my husband. Great customer service, too. They’ll extend subscription date if a conflict arises and you can’t make appointment that week. And another great story! Thank you, Andy!
The stories are always entertaining, informative and presented spectacularly! keep up the good work because i love watching this series!
Before the war he wanted more and ran away from home.
The war to end all wars had called his name,
Outcast, an unlikely solider, barely worth his uniform,
Emerging as a devil dressed in blue

Man i love your stories so much!! Your wayy too underrated. Hopefully one day you get the recognition you certainly deserve!
What an amazing man amd an amazing story!! Thank you for sharing it. This is definitely one of my favorites, so far.
I know a story about someone similar to Noche. The White Death himself, Simo Häyha. He was a short guy like Noche (but Simo was 5 feet 2.9 inches) he was a bit underestimated but he "made the Soviets jealous to their core"
Thank you so much for talking about Albert Roche! He was such a hero, he deserves to be (more) celebrated and famous!
If he would not die. He would most likely fight the Germans during WWII aswell. What a Legend RIP.
Super true.
Humanity really said no to him living
That’s a great story. Americas most decorated soldier, Audie Murphy, was 5’5.5” 112 lbs when he enlisted at 17 years old. And then there was 4,9” Richard Flaherty who was a Vietnam vet called the “Giant Killer” in the army special forces. Short Kings!!!!!

Thank you Andy for another well narration of an excellent Hidden Story. Excellent work.
I was waiting for the "Alberto however wasn't ready for the true horror of war" bit.

This man is the definition of looking both ways crossing the road and then going to hit by a plane
bro, your story telling is something else, the way that you tell a story is so insanely good
Your videos are simply amazing. You can just feel the effort put into them.
I watch one of these almost every night and have a story to tell for my friends the next day at school :)
I think this is one of the best stories i have listened to from you. And i love the way you say Albert 😊
Thank you for this intriguing, amazing story. Subscribed to your new channel 🥀
What an ANIMAL! R.I.P. Albert.
Thank you for the video before work.
Thanks Andy another great story from a fabulous story teller. I just subscribed to the new channel.
I usually don't care much for war stories, but this was a top notch tale! Talk about a case of SMS (short man syndrome) yet this was in a great way.
i really found your videos interesting! keep up!
Albert needs a movie about his life!
For sure. There is a song about him though. The first soldier by Sabaton, look it up!
yeah its called john wick.
Bro that soldier went savage fr💀💀
It’s kinda sad that this only has 70k views, this is amazing, you deserve better!!! Keep going!
very good story , God bless bro.
Andy I appreciate your work. Thank you. 🎉
Another amazing hidden story !
Andy is becoming such a huge comunicator that you almost can mute the video and understand his words, or you can gaze away and easily the story he tells will unfold in your mind like a movie
Albert took "never judge a book by its cover" literally, also great story.
Great story thank you!
This guy sounds like he was a descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte
I always see your shorts but never checked out your channel. You are great story teller
Andy i like all the hand motions you do
Wow that was a wonderful story thanks for all your wonderful and informative content

i really enjoy these longer videos, sad that they dont get as many views as the shorts, even if its higher quality
As a French i dident even know this story thanks for giving me more knowledge of us.
47th subscriber, sir. Thanks for all the fantastic entertainment, I always like to start my Wednesday with you
love your transition from short form content to long form
Honestly, unsurprising that France happened to fight that well against its own soldiers
While I was watching this, I was imagining parts of the story. It genuinely would be a good movie.
I've never heard of him, but this really needs to be a movie; I'd definitely watch this *_superhero_* movie _a few times!!_ 🎬
This video needs to be more popular
Short kings; a toast to our messiah, Albert Roche "The First Soldier".
I love these vids so much
i love this guy's storytelling

I love the accent when he says “alberte”
"oh no! they've accused us of a crime what will we do!"
"there is nothing we can do..."
The fact that he turned in over 1000 German soldiers in total mostly by himself is saying something, it's crazy how 1 man can get an entire darn squad to surrender to him!
Thanks to you my family gets to hear alot of great stories, and i want to be exactly like you but English is my second language, and I'm not that good at it

What happened to Hidden Stories? I can’t find any recent ones anywhere. I love the series and will always want to hear more.
He made a new channel for these videos called “hidden stories” but he hasn’t posted in like 4 months

I have to agree, to join the Army, it is not easy…
I went through ~all the processes and I denied to swear on the swearing day to become a Geospatial Engineer in the Army.
I passed the ASVAB with 93% and I passed the physical exam ~perfectly. I did not need a single waiver.
I passed all FBI background checks as well. Yeah I am that clean and if I did something wrong before, it will bother me a lot.
I even planned to become an officer too. At the MEPS alone, they started to kind of yell at you and talked to you in a pretty ~harsh way if things weren’t the ways they want. It was terrible but quite fun at times because I was surrounded by nice people as well.
Don't forget the ones that love this long format of videos!! 😢
Best video is this 😮
how did he crawl so much with such heavy balls?
It's funny he was mocked about his height when the picture of him with other Frenchmen shows he's about the same height

What his father’s reaction? What was his family’s whole reaction to him being in the war, and becoming a veteran after?
Andy do you have sources for this informaton? I would love to see them : )
