We are living in strange times, as an average earner I can't afford a Kia, I know that is not just Kia but I think a lot of car manufacturers going bust in the next 5 years with this trend

I collected my EV9 GT-Line S yesterday and drove 360 miles home. It returned 295 miles range in wet night-time conditions and was as quiet and comfortable as any car I have ever driven. It is a very impressive car.
It looks far better than the ugly iX and, it's not a dreary Audi either. I'm not in the market for a big SUV anyway but, the German brands especially are safe and dull designs. More to do with badge snobbery. The Kia wasn't designed to be ' hustled ' down twisty roads. Surprised didn't take it on a track. It's remit is a large family 7 seater.
is it odd that the seven seat has a bench in the middle? Can’t you put three across the back for short trips and two in the middle? with the gap bteween the seats that seems a more practical way to get in too
I can understand why you would think it is enormous because every review I have seen today is going on endlessly about its huge size. The truth is that it is the same size as a BMW X5 a Mercedes GLE, Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Discovery and all those twin cab pickup trucks that seem to have become so popular. Now those are all large cars but also very common on European roads and by US standard they fall into the midsize SUV class. To be considered large in that market you would need to be closer to 6 metres in length
@@paulbrowne6087- Tilt ~ aftermarket or sometimes optional extra cover for the rear open load area of a pickup. These are bolted to the load bed’s upper rim. And can be de-mountable. Farmers often go for the aftermarket option, as they can be cheaper, (mainly due to being unpainted, plus having no windows) and can be got with a flip-up-and-over grille opening. Tilt can sometimes be got, with manual lifting component. Meaning that the cover-tilt, can hinge upward, so loading bulky things, can be achieved without the pushing/dragging on hands & knees. I think this is where the tilt got it’s name, as some and perhaps most in the past, could tilt-up like a visor.
It’s a giant 7 seater with a max loading weight of 570kg. Even the Sorrento which is not great has 610 and the q7 has 800kg. If you’ve driven Kia’s before you’d know how bad they feel near max weight as all of them have terrible loading weights even compared to their equivalent Hyundai version that have 10-20% better capacities

Always gets me with all the touch screens in modern cars, why most are laggy, it probably cost the manufacturer $20 more to specify a faster CPU or more memory in them, they can sacrifice other areas such as materials in areas you don't see while making the screen you touch every day seem very quick.
To compare the price of a fully loaded spec EV9, vs a base spec iX is not good. The iX to have range/performance needs to be an iX50, then it will want some options, and quickly reaches £100k. Whilst still having a small boot, and only 5 seats.

Exactly the same for me! I drive an IX50 and its far more expensive. Thus I ordered an EV9, as this is not too much of a downgrade for a 40k price difference! The IX is definitely not as luxurious as I expected it to be!
With that size and design it's looking like it could've had a V6 and been a Telluride. But it seems car manufacturers kept all the good designs for EVs. 😔
A good and sensible review. It seems as though this is one step too far. Last year i got a new Genesis Electrified G80, with Genesis being the premium luxury arm of Hyundai/Kia. The Electrified G80 is a large five metre long saloon who's primary rival would be the Mercedes EQE or the new BMW i5. For some perspective prior to the Genesis I had for seven years a Maserati Ghibli, and before that I had some six new Jaguar's over a twenty year period. When asked what I think of the Genesis, I say this is the best car I've owned! Unlike this new Kia it looks and feels every inch the luxury car, with the cabin, and the car itself looking and feeling more like a Bentley, and often being confused for one! Whilst at around 80k for the almost fully optioned model I have, so a little more than this EV9, you are left in no doubt that you have got more than your money's worth. Interestingly the smaller Genesis GV60 is based on the Kia EV6/Hyundai Ioniq, but thanks to a complete redesign by Genesis is transformed also into a real luxury car. Add in the five year concierge package for free servicing, and a sales strategy which sees Genesis being sold as a completely separate stand alone marque, it is clear Genesis is clear that this a serious brand in the premium sector. Whilst Genesis do make a large SUV (GV80) its petrol and I think diesel only, so as with the GV60 if their desiners got their hands on the EV9 platform, they could have a serious rival in the EV luxury SUV sector. As things stand it would appear the EV9 is a bridge too far!

*My Uber driver picked me up in something like this the other day. I'm not sure it was the same model. it was beautiful. I was amazed by all the screens and cameras. when he would put the blinker on it would show a round circle camera with it showing the gutter*
the main point I think is missed; if you want an adult sized third row outside of countries which sell the American 4x4s and you don't want a van you are limited to the Merc GLS. The X7 is almost there but not quite and similarly the Nissan Patrol. Not sure about the Palisade. There is also the Grand Cherokee L (I don't believe the bigger models are done in RHD) but, the seats are rock hard.
I love my Hyundai diesel 2017, 7 seater Santa Fe and it's a huge value for what I paid (£25K when new, £17K now). Very reliable. I rode on an Uber EV 6 in London this week and it was impressive. So, although I can trust the brand better than say VW and Mercedes, I can't begin to fathom who in their sound mind would pay 70K for an all electric Kia. Both Kia and Hyundai lost their value for money appeal for me.

@@stuartburns8657 Google the Swedish MSB report - they've monitored vehicle fires across all types of cars across the years and found that, statistically, the number of EV fires (0.004% have caught fire) across all EVs driven in Sweden is 20x less than combustion engined vehicle fires (0.08% have caught fire) across all petrol/diesel vehicles.
So, that suggests that when EVs outsell combustion engined cars, the occurrence of car fires will decrease by a factor of 20.
