Dont feel bad about using the kneeboard and F-10 map. It makes up for the lack of situational awareness you would otherwise have. In real-life, you could ask your wingmen about the Spitfires, you would be able to spot things much easier in real-life, and you would have maps with you in the plane. Heck as a real pilot, you'd have studied maps of the region for a long time before even flying. We don't really get that in DCS, so we must make do with the tools we have available to us. I'm not saying cheat, but if we can't do it the real way, then we must do it another way that will work as well.
iam using vr. you get a way better situational awareness but iam lost all the time :P just flying for a day thoug. love to learn how to navigate like the real world
It is amazingly fun, I find it very easy to take off and lan in, just remember to hold stick back while taking off and landing that will lock the tailwheel
I must admit i share your sentiment. I too could never get into the 109 and the Dora. The 51 is also kinda meh, and the Spit is descent, but this is (for me) the first truly beautiful prop we have in DCS. Can't wait to see what they'll make of the F4U! Definitely a must get, as soon as get an SSD extension :P
I like this aircraft -- as DCS's ME-109 variant is a bit on light side for my particular taste, I'm more of a Gustav guy. The Thunderbolt will be a welcome addition. Cannot wait for the F4U Corsair. Give me the whole damn Pacific theater while you're at it. FUN FACT: All the great American Aces of the European theater -- SAVE ONE -- was downed due to ground fire.

Great video. Im a 190 a8 fan and find the long nose 190 to look a bit odd myself. DCS makes up for it with the candy cane striping they put on the bottoms of the dora.
I am really loving to fly this thing with the free access now. It's just a joy to fly! Even more so compared to the D9, wich has a much higher wing load, and I always found myself taking care not to stall it on the curves xD It IS much slower though. And at first, it's center of gravity appears to be much further than the D9, giving it a "nose heavy" filing. And it's climb rate...oh...🦠 I wish they made another BF109 model. Maybe a shitty G6, wich was the most mass produced and SECOND most mass produced aircraft in WW2, as far as I record. I would be a good classic acquisition and a counterpart to the Spit 9, wich entered service in...43 as well(?) currently in game.
Nice Video Spud , I really hope that ED start making things a lot better in terms of game play , its all well and good pushing out New modules but game play REALLY needs improving . Its way behind . Spotting and Damage modelling , For WWII spotting is a massive issue here in this Sim .
Gonna break out my copy of IL-2 BOS and give the older planes a go again (well the A5 at least.... closest I can get to the A8) - I haven't got anything from this era in DCS but they do look fun to fly, might have to grab one.
@@Spudknocker I'm definitly tempted. Better start watching some youtube vids of each aircraft so I can decide which one to go for before the summer sale 👍
@@nicksiegfried4906 yeah in the newest expansion.... It looks good but I've just got the Stalingrad and Moscow campaigns. Might have to grab Bodenplatte if I get back into it though.
@@tekaid23 yeah I got it in early access back when it was just the BF-109G14 and Spit MkXI. One of the main reasons I got it in early access was because the FW-190D-9 (one of my favorite late war fighters) is going to be a collectors aircraft that you pay more for it but you can fly it right now if you buy the expansion. Even though the Me262 just came out a few days ago, I'm still waiting for the Western Europe map and/or the P-51D-15 before jumping back in cause I bought the F-14B in DCS recently and I'm thoroughly in love with it
Salim the difference is the difference between the real aircraft the Dora is a late war liquid cooled inline engine version of the FW-190 meant for high altitude interception of bomber streams, while the A-8 version here has a large air cooled radial engine
Nice stuff, mate! Few questions: 1. the smoke on the horizons - is it part of the map or built in via ME? 2. how do you judge the performance of the Normandy map compared with let´s say the Caucasus? Lots of people say, it´s really badly performing, others say it´s really well doing... I´d really appreciate your opinion on that...
Ragnar 65 performance is hard to judge in a sum cause it’s so dynamic compared to say an FPS which is the same every time, so I mostly go with how things feel and average frame rates, and the Normandy map is a low performer compared to the Caucasus unfortunately. This is due to the tree tech used. Also the fired are built with the mission editor through the static objects-effects catagory
Seeing this makes me depressed how much shit the Fw 190's are in War Thunder, such a bad FM, the only thing the Fw 190 did worse than the 109 was Energy retention, and not even too much worse im comparison.
No pilot ever talked of "energy retention" in WWII... There was high speed, associated with hit and run and vertical maneuvers, and low speed, associated with turning and horizontal maneuvers. Low speed turning dominated WWII, more and more as the war wore on, and after the pre war assumptions of hit and run dominance proved faulty. Outnumbered, you had to turn constantly to one side... The ONE thing you NEVER did is switch sides during a turn... That was death. See my channel for more myth busting: There is simply a colossal amount of misinformation out there...
Spudknocker Sorry I was really tired when I wrote that and apologize. Though I’m not very high- level, my mind went immediately to the German pronunciation. I’m a bit anal about German word pronunciations sometimes. Like making sure people know that the “J” in Junkers is soft, or saying certain names in German. (Focke-Wulf einhundert neunzig A-fünf, Bayerische Flugzeugwerke 109G-zehn, etc.). I thoroughly apologize and wish you well. 11:00 I recommend against this. If a Fw-190 gets bounced on the deck it has almost no advantage. In both DCS and IL-2 I stay around 8,000ft.
