I absolutely love Jo Ann's sound. I first became aware of her from her contributions to 1968's Blues Anytime Vol. 1: An Anthology Of British Blues and A History of British Blues LPs. Her 'high lonesome' vocals are haunting and memorable. Her ability to produce rhythm and lead bits simultaneously rival Mississippi John Hurt's. Her understanding of the blues is evident. I just love how the Brits took American blues and ran with it!
Met her once at the 2nd National Blues Convention in 1969 at the Conway Hall, London. My first time seeing her perform, loved every moment, She looked more like a school teacher than a blues guitarist/singer but loved every moment.
Just like her brother Dave Kelly, the blues runs through their veins. Dave is still on the road with his playing partner Paul Jones, and boy are they good.
Would have been nice to see and hear a bit more of her singing rather than having those French guys talk over her. Probably the best female blues voice this side of the Atlantic. She could also hold her own as a guitarist among probably the best blues and folk acoustic guitars in the world at the time (late 1960s, early 1970s) who were all based in London. I went to see her play many times at her club, the Bridge House at the Elephant and Castle. Sadly, Jo-Ann died quite young, but her younger brother Dave is still playing with the Blues Band, apparently.
She taught Dave how to play, saw her twice here in England and she was a joy, she has never been bettered, sadly a brain tumor ended her life. RIP Jo Ann
What a…what a… talent. Up there with all the gifted British musicians who have now departed these shores.
I am glad to have seen this fantastic blues singer live with Steve Rye on harmonica in a small club in Greek Street London in 1968!

With Jo-Ann, appearances were deceiving.
What a beautiful performance... I heard it for the 7th time now... what a discovery!!!
I keep coming back to this, I find it so haunting, and the fact that I never knew of Jo Ann until very recently.
She was a genius and she dealt so well with the two French drunks sitting on the steps. Her albums should all be reissued.

Just knocked out listening to her.
Jo ann was the ideal woman ...
beautiful and with a great talent

She was a goddess.
I had no idea Foucault was into the blues
Ce film remarquable a été tourné à Pithiviers (45), ville où je suis né et j'ai raté ça !!!
What a weird French film...what a surprise! Who constantly talks over someone playing???
The French, of course. Is this from a movie release?
Is there any video of her being interviewed or we can hear her natural British speaking voice?
Or anything she had to say?
What’s the first song name? please.
"Little More Time"
@@WillardSongwriter Thank you
Could somebody please provide a translation of what the French men are saying?
@tombombadill22 - You can change the subtitles language though...
@@pit2ryan3 thank you
Only stupid things, really
Talking on his mobile (and vaping) while she's trying to start a song ... bad manners.
Mobile? She died in the nineties!
@@vincetownsend2514 If you think really hard you'll realise vaping wasn't a thing back in 1976 either.
GREAT moodpiece - anyone know what film this is from?
@sverr0r - From "Beau Fixe Sur Pithiviers" French TV, 14th August 1976
She is a storyteller and a hidden gem - so privileged to have discovered her genius tonight. 😍🤟
I wish that guy would have stopped blabbing for a minute.
How rude to talk over someone playing a guitar.
.
Dave Kelly's sister...

@@devsedit Amen, she was the best vocalist that few people knew.
