AT LAST! About five minutes in, someone starts playing Shakti riffs. Every other video I have seen of this guitar features play in a day strumming. Thank you for doing it right!!!
The first album John McLaughlin's Shakti Released 1976 Live recording It will either make you want to be a guitarist or give up being a guitarist LOL Peace n serenity
In the early 70's I became a disciple of Sri Chimnoy for a while. I was interested in meditation, BUT Mahavishnu and Carlos Santana frequently played at the meetings. John and Santana formed the band Shakti and rehearsed their music for us many times. They had matching guitars of this model. Afterwards we'd all mingle with tea and refreshments. These guitars were amazing! They also would bring their electric bands, but Shakti was SO GOOD! Among the other musicians were L. Shankar on violin and Zakir Hussein on tabla and T. H. Vinayakaram on Ghatam (jug) What a remarkable experience it was in an intimate setting, so close up. Santana dropped out because he was busy with his rock band. I eventually quit because it was cult-ish, but the music was incredible! ua-cam.com/video/VnW2g6qbbrA/v-deo.html
Carlos Santana wasn't in Shakti. Shakti was formed in 1973 by John McLaughlin, Indian violinist L. Shankar, and percussionists Zakir Hussain and T. H. "Vikku" Vinayakram.
Santana wasn't in Shakti. He played McLaughlin on an album called " Love, Devotion Surrender". Not one lick on any Shakti album .. get your fantabulous facts correct. Didn't you learn anything from Sri? I am on first name basis with him. Sometimes I call him Sir Chimney, because he was full of hot air.
First album First song First❤ Shakti You need to listen to it on a good stereo loud Good headphones Close your eyes do some Zen breathing True Nirvana Peace ✌️
If you mean the song mind ecology from the first album natural elements!? I heard this song when I was seventeen in the record store with headphones and it blew my mind like a storm!! This power energy and beauty!!
I don't think that is JML's original guitar (50 years old). It was one of two, the other belonged to Carlos Santana. John leant his to a friend who returned it in disrepair and he never bothered to have it restored. I think this model is the first from a later batch of 10.
What a beautifully made instrument. However, maybe it just doesn't translate well, but I didn't think it sounded all that good. Sound wise, not a patch on Pat Metheny's 42 - string. All of them trying to out pace each other didn't help!

The neck is simply gorgeous. I'd love to play one.

A true thing of beauty.
Lovely!
This is more than amazing then!
Who is the first guy who plays the riff from Joy?
The original Shakti-guitar used Indian rosewood only and IIRC Barcus-Berry pick-ups
Mirko can make it with whatever woods you want. Mine has Madagascar rosewood b&s and it's simply stunning.
How did you come to get #1? Did McLaughlin get one outside the 10-guitar edition? Stunning instrument.

Shake the camera a little more, I could almost focus on something

nice guitar but camera-work is all over the map
For $41,000 it better be nice!
To much talking, not enough playing 😊
Nerds
brazillianonly turns prety after its dead
checked the price... it's unaffordable for musicians and why would anyone buy a shakti guitar unless they play like McLaughlin
If the fretboard isn't scalloped, it isnt McLaughlin's Shakti guitar....
It is scalloped. I own one. They are amazing instruments.
