    I am so excited for you! I can relate so much! I work in private practice as well as an LPC Associate. I work at a private practice that supports their therapists as entrepreneurs. I struggled with setting my prices as well. and when I thought about wanting to reduce it, and to give free therapy to clients, my supervisor really supported me and spoke life into my journey and reminded me that our work is valuable. I'd love to connect with you

    I just watched your entire video! First, let me just say. I am so motivated after watching your video so thank you. I've been feeling really low (grad school finals are approaching lol.) and this video is what I needed. So thank you. I absolutely love your videos. They are so informative and detailed which is what I really like. 2nd, I actually didn't know I was going to be mentioned in ur video so OMG. WOW thank you!!! I literally cannot thank you enough for that. It makes me feel better knowing what I share is the reality becos I never found other videos on the realities of grad school. so when I do mine..I worry that maybe it's just me struggling lol. GOOD TO KNOW, its the reality!

      Aww thanks Lanicia! Keep doing what you’re doing because I seriously wish I could’ve watched that when I was in grad school and felt less alone and just represented too. Yeees if there are people who have it fully together in grad school we don’t know them lol because it is hard. So proud of you and happy others get to watch someone’s grad school journey in our field. 🤍

      There’s a lot I wasn’t aware of when I started my masters too and things are constantly evolving over time so the bhec website will be your best friend to keep up to date with changes. Definitely an exciting time for associates though with you now being able to open your own practice while supervised if that’s what you want. At least we now have the opportunity 😊🎉

    I am wondering about private practice. Do you have to just manage all your notes and keep them locked. I am wondering if there is anything you have to report regularly to the board? All I know is we have to keep up with CEUs. I am also an LPC associate and would like to start my own practice however I get messages about how much work it is on your own. Could you give me some insight ? Thank you I love your videos

    Coming from a low income family and always having lived paycheck to paycheck, I wanted to ask how salary is. Because I hear some LPC say that it’s not so high, but if it’s like $7000 a year, that would be life changing for me. Thanks!

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Freya! I hear you, and same.🤎 I invested the bare minimum that I was comfortable with to launch and working for someone else I was making from $40-50 a session, seeing 25-32 clients a month. For my own practice I am making $115 ($111.30 after deducting fees) per session with seeing 10-12 therapy clients and consultation clients 1-2 a month. My practice is still growing so I want to increase my therapy clients but that’ll come with time. But even with that I’m making more than I used to when I worked for someone else with a smaller caseload. I hope this helps 😊 Do what’s best for you though, in whatever work setting that is.

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  2 роки тому +3

      Saving this to talk about it in the future. I do private pay so I don’t take insurance or deal with it but I can definitely talk about how I’m staying organized with the business side. I didn’t learn this in grad school and don’t know anyone else who did so you’d have to take a dedicated course or workshop because in most cases grad school preps you more with the therapeutic end of being a therapist and community mental health which I didn’t know before attending grad school. Thank you for watching, looking forward to talking about this soon!

    I’m curious where in Texas you are. I’m still trying to think of how I will be as a counselor because I am in a small community in carrizo springs Texas. I am white and almost my entire community is Latin(which I love) but I wonder if my race will drive clients away.

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  2 роки тому +2

      Hi! I’m based in the Rio Grande Valley, so South Texas. I appreciate you being open about your concerns. What our feild needs is inclusive therapists so if you’re willing to do that work to decolonize therapy and advocate for clients from marginalized communities and your local community then that is a great thing. In reality our grad school programs are not enough when it comes to teaching us about an entirely different culture so if that’s the population you’ll be working with I definitely suggest learning about the culture through authors from that culture to ensure that no harm is done to clients. And I say this because harm has been done to clients by some white therapists who push a westernized view vs learning about collectivist cultures, the injustices these folks face in this country, and being willing to alter approaches to fit those needs. Not every Latine (x,o,Hispanic) client will prefer to work with someone from their same culture and that also may not be available to them. It is important for them to not have to educate their therapist on the entirety of their culture and for there not to be a language barrier so again, as long as you’re willing to learn about these things, then you will do great. The same would go for me if I lived in a predominantly Asian community for example and that was the community I am servicing, I’d have to recognize my limitations knowing that I am from a different culture, and commit to doing no harm by learning and educating myself with appropriate techniques and resources. I hope this helps, thank you for asking 😊

    Hello! i might have a stupid question.... i was going over the BHEC website to see if LPC-A's can open private practices and it says they cant. I have a friend of mine saying otherwise though. Can you advise which is correct? BHEC rules as of July 2022 says no. i am just wondering so dont kill the messenger! lol

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  2 роки тому

      Hi Iris, not a stupid question this is why I made a dedicated video on it because you’d have to be subscribed and keeping up to date with the stateboard meetings and they’re not labeled clearly when you go to their UA-cam channel. But yes I currently own my own practice as an LPC-Associate now going on 5 months since the rule change and so do other associates, but you cannot run your practice independently so you have to be supervised by your LPC-S who agrees to it. Not all supervisors will want to take this on so the board permitted this but left it up to supervisors to have the freedom to take this on or not. A lot of us are frustrated though because the wording chosen on the bhec rule book leaves a lot up to interpretation when it comes to “independent practice” so again you would just have to have a supervisor who is staying up to date with this and willing to work with you if running your own practice is what you want.

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  2 роки тому

      Also if you have concerns always feel free to contact the Texas stateboard, sadly they hardly respond and that’s just been my experience with them for over a year now.

    What do you do for marketing? in order to grow your pp?

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  2 роки тому

      I market myself and my services for therapy clients on Instagram and TikTok. So I create Instagram posts, reels, and I use those reels on TikTok too. Therapist directories are a good option too but it’s not something that’s helped me for my practice and the niche of clients I work with. It was helpful when I worked for someone else and saw a broader range of clients but it didn’t help for my practice.

    Hey. Are you starting as cash pay only? Or are you credentialed?

    • @Keep_On_Growing
      @Keep_On_Growing  Рік тому

      Hi👋🏼 I’m private pay (clients pay online with their preferred card/payment method saved on file) and planning on staying that way even after I get my full LPC. But my clients have the option to use the invoices or superbills that are generated for them on simple practice (my ehr program) and submit them to their insurance for partial reimbursement. Some insurances do accept that but it’s up to the client to work on that process.
