Even though they've already released a number of his films I've been wanting Criterion to put out an Almodóvar boxset.
So far in the sale I bought Dogfight and La Cérémonie from the store; ordered the Varda set, La Cage Aux Folles, and The Damned online; and there's still a few I'm contemplating getting: 45 Years, Hopscotch, Mr. Klein. To Die For and Bound were on my list of titles to get for sure but they're currently out of stock online and not available at my nearby stores. Dogfight was my 3rd 'for sure' title- it's my favorite River Phoenix film; though, I think My Own Private Idaho is his best performance. I got La Cérémonie because I've been going through my Claude Chabrol boxsets from Arrow and am really liking the films. I had been taking my time with them but Betty (1992) was my favorite movie that I watched for the first time last year, which is in the Lies & Deceit set. Last month was my birthday and on the day I watched Cléo From 5 to 7 for the first time. I really liked it and loved Le Bonheur when I saw that years ago. It's feeling like the right time for the Varda set. La Cage Aux Folles is a blind buy, though I've seen the American remake. And I got The Damned because I recently watched The Night Porter, which made me think of The Damned, which I watched on The Criterion Channel a few years ago before it was announced in the Collection. In May, I watched the tv production of the 1993 Cabaret revival, so I guess stories dealing with fascism is something I've been exploring this late spring/early summer. (I have A Special Day, so I'll have to watch that soon, too.)
Speaking of musicals- the way you were talking about Pinocchio and father/child relationships resonating with you made me think of Into The Woods, which I recommend watching! NOT the 2014 film adaptation but the original musical production. Even though the show is about parenting and children and growing up, the 2014 movie takes out certain parts that literally undermine those themes and messages, including part of a father/son relationship. The proshot of the original Broadway cast is actually available to watch on youtube. There are a few uploads of it.
From what I've seen in your stacks there, my personal favs are The Silence of the Lambs, Fat Girl, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and To Die For.

Great video! I’ve been meaning to check out Fat Girl but I need to be in the right mood to watch it.
If you like Andrew Haigh’s other films then you should really check out Lean on Pete. It’s not in the criterion but it’s his best movie.
And if you liked A Special Day, there are some great Scola hidden gems out there, The Family and We Loved Each Other So Much are really good.
And To Die For is great! Way better than Nightcrawler. I think it’s Kidman’s best performance, Joaquin Phoenix is also great in it.

Last year B&N made the decision to choose 12 store locations in the states to stock up on every criterion in it’s collection. Thankfully, I have a family member that lives near one of the locations so every sale I manage to try and visit it. I know it sucks that they downsized 90% of B&N. All the locations in my area suffered greatly from that.

I went into B&N to check the criterions out the other day and I also had an employee watching me like a hawk. He kept on pacing and asked me if I was finding everything okay several times. I’m thinking “did I forget to shower today or something? Did I wear my ‘I’m going to steal something’ badge?” It was so annoying.
I walked up to him and said “I’m just checking out the criterion sale if you’re wondering.” I’ve never seen someone get so red in the face. Lol he was just all “oh yeah there’s a lot of good stuff” and sort of shuffled away back where B&N employees go when they’re not wanted. Lmao
