@@JazmineHarris Honestly, I think it seems like guys don't have the "this is a TOTAL DISASTER" DIY moment b/c they're taught to not show doubt. You did great! To get the bookcases flush, you need to use low-profile channel screws to connect them together before anchoring them at the top to the wall. Congrats to you for taking on this project! Keep it up. 😊
A little help when screwing things on how to determine the direction. Righty tighty, Lefty Lucy. Turn to right is tighten. Turn to left is loosen. Hope this helps!
Jazmine is the CUTEST! I'm not even finished, but had to stop to say this... she's at the "Wow....WOWWWW" part realizing she can take the bar apart from the bar holder 🤗
I actually do this on Taskrabbit for like the last 10 years. I build closets for people. If you just want them to be closer, just take a screw and screw it in from one side to the other. Just make sure they screw is shorter than the width of the two combined.that’s what we do for IKEA furniture and you can put the screw through one of the holes if you don’t want it to show
Hi, I’m currently stuck on this part and I need help fusing them together. What do you mean thst the screw is shorter than the width of the two combined? Can you should examples please??
@@M13150 basically when you put the two pieces together, you want the screw to go through the first piece and part of the second piece but not completely through the second piece otherwise you’ll have a screw sticking out of it. So just make sure that the screw is long enough to go through both pieces, but not past the second piece.
I have been doing this hack using IKEA bookshelves for over a decade. I have used this setup in apartments where I could not modify the interior and also for additional organization systems in homes where I did not have enough built in storage systems. The adjustable shelf height is great to store different types of shoes.
I had these and ended up returning them. I got the Mainstays bookshelves from walmart, better quality and more vivid in color. Everything else I used what she suggested in the video
Good job! If it were me cause I'm pretty OCD... I'd add a strip of white veneer or trim over the gaps btwn the cabinets. I'd also maximize that WHOLE SPACE by putting shelving all the way to the ceiling... for some reason people don't use that space and it's a lot of room up there.
See that’s a great idea but the the way my height is set up…😩😂 I do have storage bins on top of them though! And I definitely want to cover the spaces between the shelves so I’ll have to look into those veneer trims! Thanks!
This definitely inspired me to do some closet upgrades in my home. But I have to admit I giggled when you used the back of the tape measure. That’s literally what the front is for LOL Great job though. It looks really god!

Nice video closet looks very nice as well and those black hangers can be purchased at Costco for about $13 for a box of 50 which is a pretty good deal since you paid $8 for 10. And if you’re not a member I’m sure you know someone who is, it’s one of my favorite places to shop not for food but for house hold they have the best stuff. Sorry for the long message but I noticed you did not have a PO Box followers just might want to send you things.
Perhaps if you ever paint something like the rods again..Maybe put some plastic town on the grass with corners secured so it doesnt blow all over ...Stick some LONG stakes through plastic into the ground ...And put the rods on the stakes to hold them up...I think it would work
as a mom im laughing (with love!) yes dear, its screwed into studs... clothes are heavy LOL I wont laugh too hard though, my husband cringes visibly whenever I tell him im working on any kind of DIY project because he knows inevitably I'll end up taking a shortcut somewhere... that I probably SHOULDNT. (and to be fair... I know that too.... but I get impatient!) :P and I'm going to pull out my mom hat and let you know the paint on those rods is going to start chipping/scraping off due to hangers moving around on it. I dont think I saw you prep the rods or seal the paint so.... it will happen. Just a heads up from someone who has painted MANY MANY things ;) But, these are things we learn along the way as we do projects! You could get a piece of trim (home depot or lowes will cut it to length for you!) in the width that you need (probably an inch? maybe 2, hard to tell in a video) to cover the space between the bookcases and it will give it a more built in look while covering those gaps, too- if you want to be extra, you could get a piece of crown molding and add it to the top! :) To secure it use wood glue then a few finishing nails (cover the nail heads with your spackle and smooth it over with your finger) and paint white when it dries. :) Your closet looks great and you should be proud of yourself! well done!!!
I wish I knew 😭 I just dug through my stepdads toolbox and picked bits that had a similar diameter to the screws I was using. Even if the drill bit is slightly smaller it should be okay, you just don’t want it to be too big!
@@JazmineHarris Ok thank you for sharing. I can see that very young age. And it can have advantages & disadvantages. But it's all good. I subscribed to your channel. So I look forward for more content.
This is a great question! I hope someone can answer you from experience. I think the ikea pax is a great investment as far as being able to customize everything to the size and needs of your closet!
If you’re renting I wouldn’t bother spackling the holes in the wall. You’re putting the bookcases in front of them so no one will see them. AND you’ll need the holes to replace the closet hardware when you move out. Also, if you have the choice to spraypaint over grass or over your patio, spray on the grass. Any overspray will be mowed away but you could stain the patio for good.
I’ve never met you, and I certainly have never taught you any DIY…but watching your video just made my heart swell with pride!! I see great things for your future :)
You should take the door out and put a curtain instead? That way the door doesn’t open in and you can put a nice big and long mirror right in that corner that’s empty, gives you enough room to see yourself and your outfits in the mirror

Those rods… are they strong enough to hold heavy jackets and all?
It depends on how many jackets you have, but I have a rack with about 10 or so jackets on it and it’s holding fairly well!
