Because I watched your videos, I just purchase a new Nokta Legend in Ontario ... You have inspired me so much.. I was using a bounty hunter and was excited with that... think I even found some platinum..Looks like platinum.. but after watching many of your videos.. Purchased the legend.. I am retired 68 years old and love hobbies ... you got me hooked ..and out doors too.. I want to say thank you for your passion in metal detecting .. So much to learn... and thats what I like... Cheers with wine.

Your about 5 months ahead of me, I had the simplex for 2 months and the legend for 1 month, also in ontario (simcoe county), I found some good stuff at the local ribfest grounds, so if you have one of those in your place of residence I suggest hitting it up
The legend is nice, but I need to update mine its running an old version of software, but I dont have a windows computer to update it,my computer runs Linux
I dont drive but I could take lynx transit across simcoe county, I plan to hit the beach at waubashene soon as the bus stops a 5 minute walk from the beach there
I also bought a off brand ebike, but I dont trust it to go to far and not run out of battery
Found anything nice with the legend since you made this post?

I have found that when the vdi is all over the chart on a particular target that I can change over to a single frequency to cross check it and usually the single frequency will tighten the vdi number down to within plus or minus 5

New detectorist, 71 year old veteran just outside of Chicago, bought the Legend heavily based on your comments, the concern the company has for providing a quality product and their reacting to legitimate customer concerns. I will be going detecting with a fellow 74 year old veteran so he can provide cover fire while detecting the Chicago beaches, just kidding about the cover fire, I will have body armor. OK not funny.
We are considering matching Grumpy Old Men hats and T-shirts. As a fellow Mexican Pizza aficionado I was at Taco Bell yesterday and when I asked for a Mexican Pizza I was told they would be available again May 10th 2022!!! I have learned a lot about detecting from all your past videos but the light hearted tone seems subdued lately. It’s none of my business but I hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks for all the great info and laughs! The laughs are what separate your videos from the pack. That and you usually don’t dig holes the size of a Volkswagen to get to the target. Your helpers are also top shelf people. I did buy the target ID bible and it has also has a plethora of helpful info.
    Brad Bremer
PS I can see by your "group metal detecting hunt" video, uploaded after this comment, that you guys are fine and it will only get better from here. Congrats on the shorter drive.

Son of a gun Merrill, I cant imagine how much editing you did for that video! What an excellent resource for referencing and putting things into perspective when it comes to the LEGENDS VDI SCALE. I think I feel alot better about the ever changing #s now. I don't have an EQ 800 and I hear the EQ800 does a fantastic job at eliminating bottle caps or should I say a better job at digging less crowns. If the legend is the 800s competition, then I can expect to see more improvements in the bottlecap arena, thanks again! And a special shout-out to your kids from the MiningMonkey in California.

Hardest thing for me is going from my makro racer 2, nokta fors relic, and simplex lite (1-99) scale to the legend (1-60) scale.
To start im just adding 40 to the legend to get an idea. I know its not perfect because of the programming but also like all should with a new detector to them is dig everything thays not a grunt tone and learn yourself for your soil

Every metal detector sends magnetic frequencies in the ground , and when it hits metals it creates eddy currents , so it measures signal timing from coil to controls , iron has a slower transfer rate than silver , gold has a slower transfer rate than higher conductive metals, when the eddy current hits a ear ring that's not a closed loop or a ring that is cracked and not a closed loop , the eddy currents gets distorted, that's why it's tricky pulling them , 360 degree scan helps, you explained alot thanks for showing the vdi's scale on the legend, very cool.

I hope that you can perhaps run out to Jones Beach or Coney Island.... and do a beach test too. I noticed you had two musket balls in the low range. One of them looks just like one that I found in the middle of nowhere in the northern Arizona desert. After seeing this I thought to myself aren’t musket balls made of lead? So I took a magnet to mine and it stuck like glue. Further research lead to thinking of two different possibilities, maybe it’s either a meteorite or what was called iron cannon shot. What do you think? Have you tried a magnet on yours yet? Thanks you so much for the diligent work done on your videos, it’s helped me to really understand what I’m doing at an accelerated rate. I’ll always smash the like for you. 👍🏻

It took me a while to get comfortable with a metal detector in my hands in public. But im GLAD I did. My suggestion is find a friend to go through the learning curve with you. I did it alone for a while but its better with friends. Start by asking for permission to a place that you are comfortable. Look up the local rules for permits. If all else fails wait for the winter and do the woods.

I was reading up on Minelab MF machines and they use an advanced method to get TIDs using MF. My Nox 800 easily grabs stable TIDs but my Deus1 struggles. My opinion the Nox is very good at getting stable TIDs I cannot say anything about the D2 yet but maybe TID performance is one for a video. Also my D1 menu has settings that interact with other settings but the Nox settings are independent. Nox- easy to set up complicated programs - D1 complicated to set up simple programs. The D2 has a similar menu. And I suspect I can set programs on the Nox I cannot do on the Deus machines. However I will have a another try of a D2 because we all want to have a selection of great detectors👍👍

First- this is my favorite detecting UA-cam channel. Now the question, my legend came with the 6” sniper coil. Opinions? I live outside Nashville so mostly fields around here. Will that effect these readings? Or just less coverage? Thanks!

Hi Merrill, a friend of mine is using the mine lab vanquish and he is wondering if he could use the equinox bible for the vdi numbers, would the two be interchangeable? I myself, am using the legend. After getting the Bible for the legend, it changed the way I metal detect in a positive way. FYI the vanquish is a 540. Hoping to hear back from you. A big fan. Tony

Didn’t you find that with the Legend there is a dig difference between an object in the ground vs dug up? Or is that something they fixed?

It's kind of obvious that size matters more then composition when it comes to silver coins.

Great job Merrill! I'd like to point out though, in the beginning, you said you were going to mainly test in Park mode, but I noticed all the coins were tested in Field mode. Since, according to the manual, it only mentions a difference in the VDIs between the two in lower VDI numbers, it probably doesn't make any difference.
    Is yours flashed with v1.07?

Now I have 1.07 but the test went on in the earliest version.

@@MetalDetectingNYC I'd be interested to see how your detector works in a field now that you have updated the version. Mine seemed to be much quieter in the previous versions. It's now extremely chatty.

How much is the scoop, handle etc.

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  2 роки тому

We are still in negotiations with the shaft company for the price on the shaft. The scoop is going to be in the low 200’s barring a drastic price shift for the new and improved connector. This will fasten it better to the carbon fiber shaft and eliminate the wobble. The shaft is going to be made with thick carbon fiber to prevent cracking and we are aiming for it to retail in the low 100’s. We should also have other options for anyone who doesn’t want to pay for carbon fiber. What we are aiming for is a formidable tool that efficiently moves and sifts sand, no give in the handle, lightweight and built to last.

What about coins that are being MASKED by bottle caps, foil or can slaw affect the target ID? How well does the Legend handle that?
