There is a series of sheaves within the tube that when connected to the haulback drum will extend the tube to full height, then air assisted dogs lock it in place so the raising line can be disconnected from the haulback line. The compressed section is generally first raised by a hydraulic cylinder, or on a skagit by another series of sheaves, and guylines are slacked as it extends up. Once raised to full height they’re tightened.
