9:14. I love this in-depth look at the suspension, particularly the ground clearance of the unprotected shock mount (at least the differential has some skid plate or bash guard).
Thanks Dan for doing this video because have been waiting for you to do one for the Silverado ZR2 and you did thanks again. Since then have upgraded my ZR2 tires to 35’s the same specs on the hummer electric truck as I will not be able to clear 12.5 “ wide tire without a lift, so I went with 12” wide and am not going back as the truck feel more planted now, and I just love the ride better too plus it’s greatly improved the look and the ground clearance on it…..all without any front or rear lift kit. All stock plus a little trimming just to clear the 35’s from lock to lock., plus it’s nice to drive by and the Raptors guys look at you be like is that a ZR2 on 35’s?. because the truck just look like its came from the factory that way.
I hate the unprotected shocks. I hit a rock with my 05 Duramax and had to cut off the shock mount, straighten it out and weld it back on then replace the broken shock. Military trucks have bolt on skid plates on their trucks.
Nice job ! Thank you sir for making a more in depth video about this trucks suspension. Now does anyone know if its the same a arms and spindle as other silverados ?
@@ALMX5DP exactly what i was thinking. My car has triangular shaped LCA and it's just a Car(TM). Visually it seems like if that stiffener weren't there the control arm would have a major weak point. And if they all have it, I don't understand why it wasn't designed differently. Hopefully Dan responds and can teach us what we're missing.
Because the center of the leaf spring is passing through the center of the forward spring mount bolt, I think the idea is that there will be less movement of the axle forward or backward at the spring perch. If it's flexed with one side in full compression and the other in full droop, and the axle moves slightly forward on the left side and slight backward on the right, then there will be some toe angle generated, but obviously the same on both ends of the axle.
@@ALMX5DP My fkn eyeballs and years of offroading and rock crawling. Prices keep goin up, quality keeps goin down. Sure the shocks are nice. That's great. If the supports are weak or in vulnerable spots it kinda defeats the purpose. They like to label all these mega buck truck packages as offroad and whatever but reality is you gonna warp the frame and brackets in several places with just minor bashing. No sense in it. Oh yes, I know I know, it's not made for that. Right, it isn't. Which is why they should stop making ridiculous packages with ridiculous claims and slapping a ridiculous price on it. People should just realize if you wanna offroad something then you better off buyin any ol cheap jeep or truck and building it up. All these trucks are just decent work trucks meant for the road.
@@ALMX5DP Yea, well either Dan needs to get his eyes checked or he needs to hit harder trails and get off the pavement more. He also getting paid. Just like C&D is.
@@st33ldi9ital has anyone broken the components you speak of on what you’d consider “harder trails”? Just looking for some substance here instead of keyboard warrior assumptions. The Ford Raptor's numbers would also perform better rock crawling, not just Baja style off roading. Would like to know the price difference between the Silverado and a Raptor. I'd take the Raptor any day.
The used market will tell you. As of this week near me are lots of ZR2s in the $55-$60k range. Used gen3 Raptors are still in the $80k+ range. Damnit 😢
Listen up advertisers, if I'm watching a UA-cam video and have to sit through your commercials, not once, but twice, I'll never purchase one of your products. That said, I'll never buy Degree deodorant. There are others I have banned because I had to sit through their whole ad. Ridiculous.
Yeah and the truck is built in Mexico with mostly China and parts from the Philippines!! Even the bow tie emblems say made in main land China! Trust me I own a 2022 Silverado! I did not buy the ZR2 because it's made Mexico!!! So what is Chevrolet about that truck?!?....

More Dan. More Carlos.
The edmunds channel is nearly unwatchable now without them.
Edmunds is back!
Nah Edmunds is the other channel
It would be interesting to see the numbers for the Power Wagon and both the F150 and F250 Tremor.
Hey, was Dan the guy at Autoblog who had the suspension deep dives? Always enjoyed reading those, glad to see he's still doing them.

Great video!! love all the details, my 13 silverado got a 448 RTI score but that was with the sway bars disconected.

this guy is solid. great info. keep it up 👍
Why isn’t that stiffener in the front LCA cast in? Seems like that strength would be needed regardless of trim and also seems like an afterthought.
Yeah that was interesting to me as well. Wonder if it’s just an adaptation of a normal Silverado control arm which doesn’t have that or something?
The LCAs on they GM half tons make me very nervous. They do it look robust at all.

How does the Bison RTI score compare to a standard 4x4 Silverado 1500?
when did C/D become a one man in-house operation?
When THE Man joined their ranks!
Thanks Dan!
Nice review.
Can you show us how to change a radio in a 2006 Toyota pickup
Love to try that 6.2 on 75 to Nevada
Wow, I didn't know that toe was a thing for a solid rear axle....😂😂😂😂
I am a bit confused by that too.
It's for turn radius.

All the mounting brackets for springs and arms look weak.
What knowledge or experience is that based on?

I really wish GM would stop fitting good year wranglers to their trucks. those have to be one of the worst A/T tires made.
They do that for EPA ratings, otherwise we'd get V6 twin turbos instead of V8s
My Can-Am has bigger suspension components.

This isn't an offroad performance truck, this is a truck designed to crawl through trails and mud
