Awesome truck! Now if they could find a way to make it affordable so most of us could actually consider it…haha I actually disagree about it needing to be wider tho. Being slimmer allows you to take it on more trails. Some trucks like the raptor and TRX, while great in the desert, are way too wide for the average trail. Great video as always!!!

Shit I’d rather take a dodge cause it’s actually infuriating how unsafe the fords that have broken down have left us in the street.
Only good thing they do is truck and Shelby but even then there is Toyota , Chevy and dodge also on those departments

I have to give the capabilities of this GM respect. In this environment, it was the right tool for the job. The GC, the front and rear lockers and the cameras were good. The increased GC is a sure fire way of helping a GM product live a few months longer if it is not scraping along. Oh, and the exhaust pipes @ 10:44 nicely done. I hate to admit, this is 1 of the rare moments that I have been impressed with a GM in a long time. Would be interesting to see how much time it spends in the shop over the next 3-10 years and what it was in for.

Great video Andre. Thanks for putting the Silverado ZR2 Bison to the Test. 85k seems fair for all that technology and off road goodies!
You made that trail look simple like going up the hill out at my parent's backyard! Who needs a rator or ttrex and the crazy high price just to struggle driving through the Home depot parking lot hitting the carts everyone leaves on the way!😅

First off, Great review and testing, Andre and TFL crew. Love seeing this truck off-roading.
In my opinion, this truck doesn’t need a wide stance of a city bus like the TRX and Raptor. Won’t work in mountainous terrain.
The 33 in. tires are just as good, even better, than the taller tires. The 33s can do handle both on and off road unlike the bigger tires that are great off road but not great on with poor handling, ride comfort and noise levels, and fuel economy plus the possibility of rubbing the inside of the wheel well.
I agree the price is high, but what you get is fantastic. The lockers, the cameras and the cool AEV gear. I know the ZR2 doesn’t compete with the two so-called Super Trucks, but it will keep up and surpass them when it comes to Rocky Mountain terrain.
If I had the money, I get this exact truck but in Sandstone Metallic. Keep up the great work, TFL.

Yeah the custom trail boss comes with only a 7 inch screen. But if you want to upgrade to the 11 its not an option you have to go up in trim level. So then you have to get the LT trail boss. So thats like 7 grand just for a bigger screen! you can buy a 11 inch tablet for like $150-$900 but you have to go up in trim level that doesnt really add much at all. Think it says bigger screen and different wheels. The LT allows you to get the 6.2 engine but all that should have been an option in the basic trail boss. So you go up and its like $10 15 grand then you still want like $10k in options your looking at a $70k truck just to add options. Upping trim levels is a scam. They should just allow to option out the basic trailboss with everything.

My Dad was right when He said that 4 wheel drive is for when You get stuck in Two wheel drive. Of course when We went Deer hunting He would climb the steep hills of Marin County with His old Willy’s Jeep Pick Up. They were rugged looking with those military type fender’s. We have had Fords and Chevy’s and still do but I really like the old military Dodge weapon’s carrier or the civilian model Power wagon that looks like a WW2 military ambulance or WW2 Chevy. Having a narrower vehicle has definite advantages especially in Bay Area California where people park on very narrow roads like those on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais and surrounding area’s . The fire department can get away with smashing cars that choke down roads but not the general public. Also keep in mind that wide offset wheels are hard on axle spindles and bearings . Those bigger tires cost more and need more power to turn them causing more fuel consumption and loss of extended range. Loose a wheel and tire on the freeway or roll over while traversing a side slope and You better have a very good attorney because You might just be charged with manslaughter. Break something in the middle of nowhere or a rugged place and a lot of recovery operators may refuse the work or charge a hefty fee. Abandon the vehicle without a guard snd there are those out there who will strip it of everything.

If they had taken this approach 5 years ago and priced them between 45,000 - 55,000 they would have been selling like hotcakes. 85K is just too much for most buyers and then, after spending 85K, how many can afford to risk taking it on the sorts of trails that it deserves. In 10 years, these will be a fun used proposition for 12K.

A 1000 lb payload really kills this vehicle as a truck. It really needs to be at around 1500 even with all the stuff on it. This means the standard ZR2 is I think the better truck because while yes the armor is better on the Bison the benefits it provides is less than the cost of the payload and not to mention the cost of the vehicle itself since you can easily save 8-12k on the price going with a standard ZR2.

I test drove the bison a few days ago, very nice vehicle! I’ve been holding out on purchasing any of the midsize trucks like Gladiator rubicon or Colorado because they’re just too small for 4 guys to go on a trip in.
I find it bizarre how Chevy could release a truck of this size with a play load of 200-600 pounds less than the gladiator rubicon, Tacoma TRD Pro etc. with it being quite a bit bigger than the other trucks.
You’d hit your payload quota with 4 guys sitting in it before you’ve even fitted a roof top tent and packed your bags.
I don’t see the point of having such a large and capable off-road vehicle when the payload limits it even more than it’s other smaller and more capable competitor like a gladiator rubicon, makes the bison a bit redundant before it even hit the streets in my opinion.

      @TobyCostaRica Рік тому

The extra weight of everything reduces payload. Also softer/plusher springs for off road reduce load carrying. Probably has to do with DOT/legal too. They have to stay under a certain GVWR.
They have a HD Zr2 coming as well with 4K lbs of payload.

@@TobyCostaRica - I’m sure there are those factors. And yet you have something considerably larger than the Gladiator/Tacoma with a lower payload than them. So it just doesn’t make much sense for me as I’d rather go with a more capable 4x4 like the gladiator rubicon as I’m only going to be able to fit myself and a passenger with luggage in either it or the bison.

So my thing with chevy is that they haven’t built a super truck since the 2000s with the SS… that being said even tho Ram and Ford do have 700+ hp… they can’t do what this truck is doing in this video… having that much power, low range is extremely punchy even still. Chevy knows where it’s at when you need to go somewhere. They know that powering 700 hp over huge rocks and 3 foot cliffs ain’t gonna work. I still wish they’d make a super truck with crazy power yes, but this truck is so cool!!!

Always wanting bigger tires seems to be your theme. We know bigger tire adds unsprung weight and I wonder if a 35 inch spare would fit under the truck? Great package and like all loaded up trucks the cost is getting rather exclusive and that's the whole business of truck toys...imo.

Once again GM can’t put a proper sized tire on their trucks. 33 inch tires don’t cut it for what this thing costs. So an $80k truck needs suspension mods and tires right from the factory. No thanks. I’d rather just buy a used Silverado and go to to Baja Kits or Dirt King for one of their long travel lift kits and have a much better truck.

@@JsGarage I knew someone would mention lockers. A rear ARB air locker is $1200 plus about $600 for the compressor. Granted they aren’t available yet for this model year but are available for 2014 to 2019 Silverados which is where I’d be looking anyway. I could write a check for one of these trucks new if I wanted to, but I can get more value and build a better truck by buying lightly used and building through the aftermarket. $85k for this truck on sad 33” tires is crazy.

@@holdenc3082 More lift and travel, I get it. What about the shaft & axle angles, lockers, skids, active suspension modes, drive modes, rear shock mount position etc? Just lifting a normal truck up real high and putting real tall tires on it doesn’t turn it into a ground-up sport vehicle with more modularity and upbuild potential. The people at Trader Joe’s wouldn’t like yours any more than the other.
