There are tons of small inexpensive used trucks on the US market. People just need to drop the ego and stop looking for massive trucks. I recently bought a 2001 Ranger for $3k. It's more than enough for the average person.

@@Ostsol I agree the environmental laws have ruined trucks. They literally encourage trucks to get bigger. Although Ford somehow managed to make the Maverick recently so maybe things are looking up for the small truck market.

Please bring to the US market. The Tacoma is to far out of my price range, and the more affordable unibody trucks are hideous and still fairly expensive. We need this in Canada! This has the perfect balance of practicality and affordability. I'm a DIY guy, so I need to buy lumber, and occasionally move bulky items that don't fit in an SUV. I can't afford a 60 000$ CAD truck that only has a 5 foot bed. The Champ let's me do everything I want to do. I can do wood working projects, I can put my ebike in the back and go mountain biking, I can haul dirt/crushed stone/sand etc, I can take my lawn tractor to get fixed...the possibilities are nearly endless. I would buy this thing today if it were in Canada.

Sure it doesn’t impress anyone and can’t tow a small universe but with its big, low drop side tray and rack up to and at the front, it can do more actual work than most of the over priced jacked up liabilities most people seem to want so they get that special feeling in the pants. I can drive up next to a hole/low point on the property drop the side gates and shovel whatever off filling up the hole. I can have Lowe's load a pallet of whatever onto the bed of the truck and drive off. My first time learning to drive was in my Gran Daddy's 1966 F100 I6 3-speed column shift. Thailand don't use expensive to buy vans for light delivery vehicles, they use mainly isuzu utes with big cargo boxes on the back. Much cheaper alternative.

I would buy the 2.4 diesel tomorrow if brought to Australia. I agree with your comment about the current toyota ute, old outdated, the Ford Ranger is just that much better, and that coming from a Toyota fan boy..... Bring the Champ down under. I am even considering the Mahindra over the current luxes, that should ringing alarm bells for Toyota Australia.
Mark Williams - Bring the Champ and it will be a tradie classic, a farms friend, a couriers dream and will dominate the 2WD small ute and van market.

About 50 to 60% of the draw is the price. The other 40 to 50% is the fact that it can be just a basic simple smaller truck. I don’t need some massive thing all the time. My dad actually has a full-size truck. I just need a small truck to pop around. I’m a truck driver by trade so I don’t need this massive thing sitting in a parking lot aging out doing absolutely nothing. And the $10-$15,000 price tag on this thing for the basic version seems like something I can literally pay out of my pocket and it’s bought free and clear. My only real major concern is parts availability here in the US.

In the U.S. there are laws that allow businesses to try and federalize a foreign market vehicle for sale in the American market. If one were up to the task, you would have to crash test some of these Hiluxes, hire engineers to design modifications so that they pass safety and emissions tests, crash test some Hiluxes AGAIN to prove they really do meet American standards, and then they can be sold to the public so long as every example has had the approved modifications made to make it legal. In addition to that, you will need to pay the chicken tax, which is a 25% tariff on each example sold. All in all I think it would be possible to sell these in America for about $15,000 to $20,000 - provided you have enough money to crash test and re-engineer them as necessary first.

im currently looking for my next ute, going from the commo ute which ive loved and now outdated, ive quickly realized we just dont have what i want.. like i just want a slightly bigger payload and towing capacity.. best i can find without becoming a 'truck' is 2008ish triton.. which sucks, because i would prefer something newer. also the other problem im having a huge issue with is.. single cab ute (NOT A TRAY!!!) the options are so limited in both the second hand and new market. its frustrating. I dont want to own a tank, I just want a ute of what i think is a decent size. then chuck in everything is dual cab.. i could rant for hours. ugh. BRING THE CHAMP TO OZ
