    You forgot the part where the new VA rep (the one actually dealing with vets and not on the phone) is all motivated and slowly she turns to some jaded, soulless creature that resembles Gollum... and then gets promoted.

    I am very lucky to have a newly opened VA Medical Center opened up a year ago in town. Beat the local hospital systems by a mile! I hope the VA is getting better like this everywhere but not holding my breath. The VA system can suck harder than the infantry in the cold rain with no chow.

    Ive been on hold for the last 120 days... I expect to be seen by a VA rep maybe two years later. I just assume just deal with the messed up disks in my back and constant knee and hip cracking along with the whistling in my ears till I die... This is what I got for deploying every other year to Iraq.

    I've actually had the VA CANCEL my prescription, and I'm diabetic. When I asked the receptionist why, and who did it, she said she didn't know. I had to drive 90 mins to the VA hospital just to get refills on my meds. Love the VA, and this is why I don't go to doctors.

    This is pretty close to the truth. After I retired I was committed to fighting the V A on my appeals. I went to the Regional V A office and inquired about my Claim I told the Counselors that if you lie to me or screw me over I will become your worse nightmare. They screwed me over. Being retired Federal Law Enforcement I know how to right memo's . I typed up a 5 page to the Director of the V.A. through the Regional VA Director through the Director of the V A Hospital in Reno Nevada through the D.A.V. I the Counselor that I am demanding to speak to the Regional Director I told him this in regards to my Complaint and submitting documents to my Senators and Congressman requesting a Congressional Investigation. I sat down with the Assistant Regional Director he asked me what is going on. I handed him his copy and he was shocked. He was surprised and turned a little pale. He said can we resolve this matter and this level. I told him you have 20 working days to resolve this matter and I type a memo of this conversation. I received a DRO hearing with my DAV Rep. The V A recommend that I submit a I.U. claim this was documented on recording device. I won my I U claim.

    I can only speak for the Robert Dole VA in Wichita KS and the VA office in Salina, KSI am an (Almost) 80 year old retired Navy Vietnam Veteran. I am a twice past commander of VFW post 1432 in Salina, KS and a life member as well as a life member of our local DAV post. I have never, ever, had any problems, large or small with our VA or Dav. I havebeen a life member of our post since 1968, and, in all that time of meeting many veteransor every branch of the service(s), I have never heard a major complaint from anyone.The most common complaint was taking meds that made them sick. I am currently being treated for agent orange and have zero complaints

    This is not just the VA this is the American health care system in general. When I was a kid I grew up racing. I had a serious crash in 1998 that nearly did me in. I had a skull fracture, multiple organs lacerated, 9 ribs broke, cervical spine fractures and lumbar. I was like old and they put me on darvacet, tylenol #3, norco 10/325 6x day, then in 2004 it went to another extreme. Then by 2007 I was finished with it went to a new doctor had surgery on my spine in 3 places got the damn nerves off of chipped bones and bone Spurs all my problems went away. I was so pissed it was an easy fix and got drugged you for years. The funny part I was still racing high as a damn kite so I had a few more wrecks where I was critically injured and I got released from the care center with a collapsed lung. Ahah I had no pain from all the drugs I literally didn’t have pain for 2-3 hrs and ended up almost dead.

    The VA saved my life 2wice two open heart surgery's agent orange related. But the hold and the medication refill bit are very close to the truth. I have dealt with the VA since I returned from SEA many moons ago and the improvements since than are a quantum jump in service and respect. But what they really need to work on is the patient transportation issue. For the younger guys it may not be an issue, but for us older guys that can not drive anymore they are a real pain in the ass.

    I don't have a problem ordering scripts online, but I can't ever get anyone on the phone. When a script runs out And I try to reder it, it does hook me up with the pharmacy.
    Now, I've been waiting for at least 4 years for them to fix my knee. It took nasty words to get an MRI, the doc kept telling me I had arthritis. I had every expectation of getting arrested or detained because I was very ugly with the doc.
    Got my MRI but that was over 4 years ago and they told me what was needed.

    Joke away. Y'all think your average family practice or private hospital is so easily interchangeable with the VA? Is treating a combat Vet with PTSD and/or other military service related conditions and injuries the same as treating little Johnny's runny nose, Granny's bunions, or doing boob jobs for housewives? For all its faults the VA is still superior in dealing with military service specific issues than the private sector ever could be. To maintain its specific focus on Veteran healthcare, the VA has to remain a Federal government agency. Unfortunately, the price for this focus and benefit is Washington bureaucracy and Federal employee unions and all that comes with them. For-profit private sector medicine neither has the training, ability, or motivation to specifically deal with the unique needs of Vets.

    • @justinfrazier9555
      @justinfrazier9555 7 років тому

      Jolly Roger this guy or someone he knows works for the VA. Let's compare to number of patients in the civilian sector to the military sector. It all falls apart there. The cases may be more specific but the sheer number can't compare. If 50 little Johnny get their runny noses fixed they are more efficient than a VA that puts you in a circus to either dissuade you if it's a minor issue or put a nice big time stop between you and your visit. I'm pretty sure you can walk into an emergency room and get treated within half an hour unless you are literally dying if it's serious. And if I call for a doctor appointment it definitely won't set me back a few weeks. I can usually squeeze in the very day I need to go. No hold no wait no bullshit while waiting for someone certified in phone answering can transfer me to someone certified in setting appointments to get me to see someone certified to treat me

    • @jollyroger1574
      @jollyroger1574 6 років тому

      Veterans have been polled on this issue and the overwhelming majority of us do NOT want the VA to be privatized. There is plenty of room for improvement, but the VA is an earned benefit for service and sacrifice that can't be replicated in the private sector. Want to improve it? How about cutting welfare and healthcare for illegal aliens and using the money to expand facilities and hire more doctors and nurses at the VA? With the Vietnam era Vets getting older and needing more care and the Vets from the recent conflicts, the VA's capacity is maxed out. That is the root of the problem. Most Vets have no issues with the quality of care at the VA, only the access to timely care which is a symptom of having too many Vets and too few doctors, nurses, and facilities. I have gone to the VA and private healthcare providers, have had emergency surgeries and admissions at both a VA hospital and a private sector hospital, and in the end I'll take the VA any day, and most Vets who actually use the VA would agree.
