the way I think of it is, a lot of us tend to choose an aesthetic and force ourselves into it and call it our "style". But instead, we should choose pieces which resonate deeply with us regardless of what aesthetic each clothing piece is and then all together they form a style/aesthetic of "you". I dont have an aesthetic, one of my favorite outfits is a pink plaid pleated skirt with a matching blazer, white socks and tennis shoes and a headband. Very preppy and girly and academia. Another one of my favorite outfits is an oversized band tee, vintage corduroy pants, leather jacket, leather boots. These two outfits are completely different "aesthetics", but what makes them similiar and cohesive is that they both scream ✨me✨. IM the aesthetic. So if you know me, you could see both those outfits and think "that looks like something anika would wear".
basically, start looking at YOURSELF as the aesthetic rather than cottagecore, preppy, edgy etc.

And I actually just went to the store and bought some new clothes that feel like me. I got a haircut and I quickly started to feel prettier and more confident.
