    Fun flight, SIC is getting so confident on the radios, she will be so much more comfortable than most when she starts her training. I train at a pilot-controlled airport, so ACT is still somewhat intimidating, but I am getting more confident. Thanks for sharing!

    I have never "rotated" on a normal takeoff. I put the nose in position and let the plane fly when it is ready. It's just a much smoother operation. I like her curiosity. There's so much she doesn't know that she doesn't know, but with curiosity, it can be learned.

  • @aviatortrevor

    Another good reason to have a slight amount of back pressure during takeoff and more so on the landing rollout - you’re taking weight off the nose wheel, and that reduces the chance of “wheelbarrowing”, which can cause directional control issues. The Barron is probably not very susceptible to wheelbarrowing, but if you land a couple knots fast in a 172 and then immediately relax on the elevator control after touch down, that’s when I see wheelbarrowing and difficulty in directional control.
    In landing, you also get the benefit of aerodynamic braking and more effective wheel braking if you pull back during the rollout. You can pull all the way back, but if you pull all the way back at a sufficiently high airspeed, you’ll accidentally go airborne again, so you have to develop a sense for when it’s too much too soon. The Barron probably is heavy enough and draggy enough that it doesn’t want to fly again after touchdown.

    "Why am I always a Bonanza?" That was funny! 😂🤣😂 I get it though - since I'm pretty much a newbie, I get makes and models crisscrossed more often than not. Some of them are very close, especially with my eyesight, lol! I have to look at details like window shape & count, and the tail / rudder style. Being a lifelong car guy, now I know what non-car people feel like when I give them the look of disgust, "That's a CHEVELLE! How dare you!" 😁
    Kim is already lightyears ahead of where I'd be, given the amount of time she's been flying. She's a natural! 👍😎
    And thanks for the tip on the elevator at take off, Kris! Another detail that I didn't even think of. So obvious now that you said it, but that probably would've taken me a while to figure out on my own. 👍👍
    I'm looking out my window, just itching to grab the chainsaw and get my runway underway here. I started on one side of the property, but after the amount of rain and snow we've got, it's become painfully obvious that this spot just isn't going to work, except in a drought. The higher, dryer land happens to be where my mini orchard is. Well, we can replant! They're going down! 😁 I need to get moving on that so I can take advantage of any possible opportunity in the weather, and get that paramotor out of mothballs. I'll have to dress like Ralphy's brother in "A Christmas Story", but at least I can get some practice taxis in. The ground either needs to freeze solid, or the snow needs to ice over the top a bit. 😏

    Love your videos. One thing I noticed here, however, is when they're vectoring you around you are flying a gps ground track based on the heading they give you. Technically when on vectors you should fly the magnetic heading without wind-correcting even if your ground track is not the same. You would only use the gps ground track if they said "track 100" or you're on a published procedure etc.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  4 роки тому +1

      We do fly heading not GPS tracks. Once on the heading I point out what the track is and tell her to use that since she doesn’t have heading in front of her. As you know depending on the winds it can be different or the same. But to your point, you are correct, there is a difference.

If you were just punching holes in the clouds with a dormant passenger every time, chatting about life in general, I'd get bored quickly. BUT - since Kim is #FlyingSIC now and learning constantly from you, the knowledge transfer is very valuable. Same thing with Steveo1Kinevo -- most of his videos are all fairly similar but there's always something to learn.
