Kim, Task saturation can be very confusing to non pilots. When you start doing cross countries as a student pilot you will start to better Juggle information and also learn to prioritise your actions. Don't worry

So Kim, rules are fly the plane, navigate and then communicate. If you have a total radio failure, you can change your code to indicate to air traffic control that you having a radio problem. That code is 7600.

Thanks for the explanation at the end. Was wondering if it was a jack, the audio panel or a radio.

Kim, it takes a while to deal with navigation, instrument scan, looking outside scanning for traffic and radio conversations and in your case listening to your instructor. it will become easier as time goes on.

Enjoyed the flight. Reminded me of when I was flying out of DAB with Embry-Riddle and I filed a VFR flight plan. I told FSS I was flying from Daytona Beach to Fort Lauderdale Exclusive. The guy laughed and told me I really meant Executive, but it is pretty exclusive.

@Flying SIC that task saturation moment is a great learning tool. Noticed you were on your phone when Kris was lining up for takeoff. It's hard to catch up once you fall behind. Fly the flight in your mind with Kris on the controls and you have a better chance of staying ahead of the aircraft. Get that PPL. 😎👍

The back story on KTNT: it basically came down to the fact they could never get the environmental folks on board to build a huge airport in the swamp. In addition it was kind of built to handle the supersonic aircraft that were under development in the 60s. Those never materialized for similar reasons. Nobody wanted to hear sonic booms and then the price of fuel went out of sight. They had went ahead and built the single runway but could never get permits to build the rest. So they used it to train pilots for PanAm and Eastern which were heavily Florida airlines. Still do for folks that fly physical planes to train but again the cost of fuel and maintenance make it more economical to train in the sims. So it’s an airport without a real purpose.

TNT was designed to be the south Florida International airport and to replace MIA/FLL/PBI/RSW/APF/FMY but as other have said the environmentalist shut down the process. Their plan was to have high speed rail from all those cities and limited parking actually at TNT. The ATC tower was officially opened just before the 1981 air traffic controller strike and closed immediately after, and never to reopen. You can land and do touch and goes there. You have to get a permit form off Dade aviation website and fax it to the airport manager. I believe the permit is good for a year. Touch and goes there seem amazing in the fact that its a 10,000 foot runway in the middle of no where

HAHAHA Kris, brilliant minds think alike - "band camp" was the first thing that popped into my head when she said that, LOL! Oh, and I loved the guy tripping over the pipe, enhancing your audio during your comms follow-up - glad you left that in! I LOL'ed!! And I agree on Kim's shirt - I like it! it can be interpreted 2 ways - the universal symbol of love, or, the way my mind interprets it - throwing the devil horns at a metal concert. :D " 'Cause I'm T - N - T ... ! "
I agree with Kim's assessment - I do the same through UA-cam - observe, and try to see if I can reasonably predict what's coming, and see what I'd do during a failure that draws your attention away from everything else. Definitely not easy. I'd probably need a bit more training than most, since I'm a terrible multitasker - as in I CAN'T do more than one task at a time. I can hardly talk to passengers when driving sometimes, like when merging into traffic. Practice makes perfect I figure. I always enjoy watching how you guys manage that. I remember the feeling of watching guys that drove tractor-trailer before I started driving - was very intimidating, but after a year or so, I was right in the mix with them.
A quick note on the notification bell - I relied heavily on email notifications for all my UA-cam subs. It was much easier for me to go though and watch them in the order they were received. Since they ended that, everyone's videos gets lost in the mix on my phone, since I'm subbed to 150 or so different channels. If I get multiple notifications in one day, some get lost in the shuffle. Wish UA-cam would bring that back! I've seen my own view count, as small as it is, go down since the change as well.
Great stuff as usual Kris & Kim! Congrats on the decision to move "home". That's great!

I know just how @FlyingSIC feels about being overwhelmed with all the activity, including a comms failure! Often happened to me my first several months of training, nearly made me give up because I felt so inept and concerned about the implications re safety for me, my wife, passengers, folks down below, etc.
But persistence, and lots of chair flying (or being a copilot, which is probably even better), pays off, as things become 2nd nature, even failures.

    The story of KTNT:
The Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, originally known as the Everglades Jetport, was slated to be the largest jetport in the world (5 times larger than JFK Airport in New York, in fact). In the late 1960s, due to the increase in the number of jet aircraft, it was decided that a new airport was required to handle the ever-increasing number of long haul flights. Additionally, the development of the supersonic Boeing 2707 and the impending introduction of the Concorde prompted the development further. Since supersonic aircraft are quite loud, not to mention the sonic boom that results from supersonic flight, the developers chose the Everglades as the location. It is remote, and its proximity to the sea on both sides of Florida meant that supersonic aircraft could accelerate to supersonic speeds much sooner. However, an environmental analysis showed that the Everglades would essentially be destroyed due to negative effects caused by the development of infrastructure. The airport project was eventually cancelled after the completion of just one runway due to local pressure and the cancellation of the Boeing 2707 project.
The airport remains open, though access is limited. It is now known as the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, as it was used heavily for training operations such as practice approaches. Nowadays, it is rarely used, as its role has largely been replaced by simulators.
I have flown over KTNT a couple of times, and it is quite strange to see a large runway in the middle of nowhere!

  • @willyt7241
    @willyt7241 3 роки тому

Seems like on dept your receiver worked but your transmitter failed. From an ATC perspective that’s not a big deal. A good controller sensing this will ask you to ident. If they observe an ident the controller can provide service with the pilot acknowledging with the ident. With a series of yes or no questions with yes being “ident” you can receive almost normal service. As a pilot don’t let a radio failure distract you! Controllers will watch you closely, aviator and navigate, controllers will keep all other IFR traffic out of your way.
I was confused when asked “why so quiet” the controller said “reduced staffing”? Normally with reduced staffing RADAR positions are combined up and you should hear more transmissions since a controller is transmitting on more frequencies at once. The staffing is reduced because the FAA ATC facilities were on 5 days of work 10 days off! Pretty good gig for same pay!

From wikipedia: Begun in 1968 as the Everglades Jetport (also known as Big Cyprus Jetport), the airport was planned to be the largest airport in the world, covering 39 square miles with six runways, and connected to both central Miami and the Gulf of Mexico by an expressway and monorail line. The airport would have been five times the size of JFK Airport in New York. At the time, the Boeing 2707 was under development and it was anticipated that supersonic aircraft would dominate long-haul air transportation. South Florida was viewed as an ideal location for an intercontinental SST hub due to the limitation that such aircraft would have to fly over water. Because of environmental concerns and the cancellation of the 2707 program, construction was halted in 1970 after the completion of just one 10,500' runway. Although the airport was left abandoned and unfinished, it was still retained by the local government as a general aviation airport and (to a greater extent) training airport. It was originally heavily used by Pan Am and Eastern Airlines as a training airport, as the long runway at Dade-Collier could accommodate aircraft as large as Boeing 747s, and was equipped with a relatively new instrument landing system, which allowed pilots to train for landing with low cloud ceilings and/or poor visibility. The isolation of the airport meant that it could be used for training flights 24/7 all days of the year without interfering with the traffic at Miami International. In more recent years, the advent of flight simulators has made such training flights less economical, and the airport is now used much less frequently, although it remains open to general aviation.

800 miles you can beat airplane riding because getting to and from airport an tsa work and you get to small airports closer to final point car can best 500 miles or lesson beat my boss to Miami form jacksonville because of airport bs he was amazed I picked up we left same time he'd did red-eye ride we left terminal at same time. A cessena 152 would be better 80 knots is better then 95 traffic on road that is basic compared to Baron. Like model a ford compared to roush mustang 🐎🐎
