  • Who dislikes petrol lawnmowers that just don't want to start and require constant maintenance and fuel. Well, I have gone out and purchased a new cordless RYOBI 36V 18” (46cm) Brushless Mower 4.0Ah Kit which included a 4.0Ah battery and 1.7A charger. Apparently, the mower can run for up to 50 minutes on the included battery (enough time to cover up to 500m2), but I only mowed for about 30 minutes on an area of about 350m2 with power still in the battery to spare.
The advanced brushless motor provides power comparable to a 140cc petrol engine, without the fuel or fumes!
Looks like they don't sell this brand outside of Australia or NZ, so here is a similar brand by Greenworks in the USA; amzn.to/3uY2LWz

I detest stinky petrol lawnmowers! I am so glad that battery technology has advanced so far that these fossils can be replaced with something less polluting. Has anyone else had experience (good or bad) with the latest cordless electric mowers?

I have one of the older Ryobi 36v mowers. Had it for around 10 years and I love it. I don't have much lawn to mow, so it's perfect! No need to go to the petrol station to fill it up, no smell and no injuries starting it lol.

Good point about the injuries starting it. I remember tearing a shoulder muscle once trying to start an old petrol mower. Hurt for at least a month. This new one starts with a press of a button! Easy peasy.

Ryobi tools are awesome. I have the 40v string timer, leaf blower, and edger. So much better than ⛽ . I also have the 48v riding mower. I live on 5 acres so a bit more grass to mow.

We have a corded electric mower after multiple unreliable petrol ones. I'd like a Ryobi but would prefer the one+ for the battery compatibility if they do one.

They do have a One+ mower as well, but it didn't have enough mowing time for my liking.

@@GavinandKim that's good to know for future thanks. I have a 4Ah OnePlus battery as well as drills, impact, angle light, recip saw, and strimmer. I think the economics would work for me. Interesting that yours has better now time compared. Is the one+ version brushless I wonder

I just bought this mower and it worked great, however can't manage to remove the battery as simply as you did! Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Do you have to keep the middle button held down or just the lever? We bought this and the mower stops after one minute when you release the middle button.

The middle button starts it, but then you just have to hold one of the levers to keep it going. Sounds like something is not right. Mine is still going strong. Gavin

Your catcher is not put together properly. The metal section should go inside the bag

      Not according to the instructions.

The metal section is supposed to be the handle. So it should be outside the bag

I think you might wanna lower the blades a bit, no? I might be wrong but it didn't seem like a very close cut and i feel like I remember my dad teaching me that new mowers come standard with the blades at the highest setting.

Hi, Thanks for the review. You might like to add the model number to the title (RLM36X46BL) so that it can be found more easily - since it's the current model.

I had an electric whipper snipper for a while.. then one day the dried grass stuck on/in it eventually caught fire and it turned into a big fireball while i was using it. I have never tried an electric lawn mower but I imagine the same could happen. Something to watch out for anyway.. need to keep it clean ;)

    • @GavinandKim

I think the same would happen for a petrol mower or whipper snipper. But, I always clean my tools afterwards, so not much of an issue. Thanks for the tip.

Missed a spot!! Lol! Kidding. Handy little thing! We have four lots to mow, and this year has been a horrible year for machines for us. We have three riding mowers and all three are down because of belts, blades and parts are on backorder due to the virus thing. So we have to use our push mower now. 3 hours per lot with the push mower. I do one lot, one day, and then the next, the other... I am really tempted to go and buy a herd of goats at this rate! A lot cheaper and they fertilize too! LOL!
