      @@garotron84 Yes, Duncan was a center/forward. Actually, he was really a center playing PF due to the luxury of playing with David Robinson. Honestly, Malone was probably a better basketball player. It's almost an apples/oranges comparison. Duncan was better in the post due to having a greater wingspan, and also a better shot blocker - due to having a greater wingspan. Malone was a better passer, better shooter and better defender … ran the court better, etc.. It's just that you get a better result with a better post scorer; at least in that era.

      Don't think Admiral made any AS teams after TD joined. Maybe 1. TP9 made 6 and Gino made 2. While TD had more good players around him, Malone had one superb player, and the one who fed him the ball on the PnR. Would be interesting, but I bet TD was assisted on a lower % of his FG's than was Malone, meaning TD had to do it himself. You can make a case that Malone was a better offensive player (although I wouldn't). The rings and the D overwhelm any argument for Malone, though, IMO.

    • @BobyCasasola87
      @BobyCasasola87 8 років тому +8

      +C. L. Turner Based on trophies and accomplishments, yes, Duncan is the best PF ever. But if we were allowed to dream about a Fantasy Basketball league where I can pick players from any era and make the best possible team ever, I'm picking Karl Malone over Tim Duncan any day and that's not even a close decision. Karl Malone was better individually, as well as more consistent and durable.
      Duncan had better teammates around him, players good enough to get carried by Duncan to get rings. Malone had Stockton yes, but the rest of that Utah team, besides Hornacek and Carr, was terrible. It's just like the OKC Thunder right now with 2 elites and a bunch of below-average players around them, not much they can do.

Webber might have averaged higher then Mchale but mchale scored more overall points then webber with 17 335 to webbers 17 182 and Mchale has more blocks for his career then webber ... Mchale had a higher ft and fg % then webber ... He also scored more in the playoffs and averages more ppg when it mattered most. Mchale also never called timeout and cost his college team a title ... and then there is the 3 rings to 0. I would not remove anyone from this list to accommodate webber .. I think Barkley is extremely underrated. He was a good passer and all around defender. His post scoring was slightly worse or even equal to Malone's, and he was the better rebounder and outside scorer. Finally, one aspect of Chuck's game folks forget because of how fat he is today was that Barkley was one of the most athletic players to ever play. Although the others might have put up better numbers, Barkley is a hard nosed player I would love to have on my team, and in a pick up game I would probably choose him ahead of anyone except for Duncan.

    Dave Cowens played center for the Boston Celtics, but at 6'-8 1/2", his natural position was at power forward. He was a tenacious defender and one of the NBA's greatest rebounders. Dave was a good scorer and % shooter on a well-balanced Celtics team. This one time MVP, two time champion, and Hall of Famer (and top 50 all-time player) had a fearless style of playing that would have made him one of the very greatest power forwards.

      +Dylan Smith Yes, but that doesn't make him a good player. Just a good role-player. Maybe if he was the greatest defensive power forward of all time I would agree, but he wasn't, and his absolute awful scoring ability would essentially make offensive runs for the pistons/bulls 4v5 which would have only worked successfully with Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Adrian Dantley, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, etc. If he was on any other team his weakness in offense would have been a lot more prevalent.

      +Jay Josiah "Rodman could score if he wanted to... but he'd rather rebound and pass."
      The beauty of basketball is you can do all three. Going through life, a few people I once considered to be very intelligent and headed for success have turned out to be absolute burnouts, living in their parent's basement when they should be on their own, just doing nothing with their lives. Every time I talk to them and tell them they're losers and should go out in the world and be successful, do you know what they say? They always say they could if they wanted to, they just prefer not to. That argument doesn't get them a girlfriend and a house of their own. Why should it get Rodman on the top 10 all time list for power forwards? Rodman played d3 college, literally a jv league so don't use that as an argument.

    I remember when I was a kid, when Barkley and Malone we both at their primes, there was no debate as to who was better. At his absolute best, Charles was legitimately in the same conversation as Magic and Jordan. Malone was never in that league. In 1990, Barkley had more 1st place MVP votes than Magic Johnson in what was, by advanced stats, Magic's best season and the Lakers had the leagues best record. In '93 Chuck beat prime MJ for MVP, and no one questioned it. The Suns were up with seconds left in game six against the Bulls that year and fell 1 point shy of forcing a game seven. Barkley went 27/13/6 during the finals and it took 41 ppg from Jordan to beat him.
    For 5 or 6 seasons Barkley was the best that a power forward has ever been. I think he could have (maybe should have) been among the top 10 players of all time. But his lack of work ethic and attitude problems cut his prime short.
    Which PF would I pick to start a franchise? It would have to be Duncan. He was the best for the longest. And he was an all time winner. But IMO, Barkley at his best was the best PF ever. He certainly had the most athleticism, skill and versatility of any PF that I've ever seen. Of the top 5 on this list, ranked in order of who was the best at their best, I'd have 1.Chuck, 2. Duncan, 3. Garnett, 4. Dirk, 5. Malone.

      If league MVP is so important then Karl Malone is obviously better than Barkley. We both know that League MVP means very little though. It's just a regular season award. The Suns had the best record in the league that year, so Barkley won. Jordan wasn't even 2nd so it's laughable that you mention beating Jordan in his prime. Everyone knew that Jordan was the best player in the league by far.
      Barkley was superior to Malone early in their careers, but Malone eclipsed him late. Both were great but I have Malone #2, Barkley #3. LoL @ Garnett and Dirk being above either.

What player in nba history could have been said to almost get or be cheated of a quadruple double in the finals???? Dave Cowans of the Celtics was a prototypical power forward, who played almost his entire career as a 6’-9” center. He was a tenacious defender, and averaged 15 rebounds per game during his prime years. He could out-rebound much taller centers, including Jabber. He did this despite having to share the rebounds with Paul Silas, who was also a superb rebounder. While playing out of his natural position, Cowans was voted as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. As a full-time power forward, his skill set and passion for winning, would have made him the ideal power forward.

    I agree with most of this list but I would change a few things. First, I would flip Jerry Lucas and Dolph Schayes, due to the definition of a power forward, Dolph Schayes sounds more like a small forward whereas Jerry Lucas is your traditional power forward. I would also flip Karl Malone and Tim Duncan, due to Malone's better stats. Also I would include Dennis Rodman here somewhere

    • @challengesinthehood917

      My final list of top 10 power forwards is:
      1. Karl Malone
      2. Tim Duncan
      3. Dirk Nowitzki
      4. Kevin Garnett
      5. Charles Barkley
      6. Bob Pettit
      7. Elvin Hayes
      8. Jerry Lucas

      10. Dennis Rodman

    • @mattflynn440
      @mattflynn440 8 років тому +3

      Dennis Rodman isn't on the same level as these guys, as good of a defender and spark plug that he was. If anyone deserves a second look here to make the top 10, it's someone like Pau Gasol or Shawn Kemp. But you can't argue with Duncan at #1, his counting stats are slightly worse than Malone, but Duncan made 8 All NBA first team DEFENSE as well as 10 first team OFFENSE. That offsets any difference in scoring, plus Duncan won 5 titles, 3 finals mvps and never played with John Stockton
