How to set and troubleshoot the alarm on an Analog watch - Watch and Learn #33

- In today's episode of Watch and Learn, we cover how to set the alarm on an analog watch. While it seems like a simple task, there is a concept the watch uses called "reference time" which many people forget about, and it causes the alarm to sound at the wrong time.
If you're having trouble getting your alarm to go off at the right time, hopefully this video helps you out.

Thank you so much for this! I lost the original instructions for my analog alarm watch and this first portion for your video worked perfectly!
Because of your great videos and good reputation I ordered 3 seikos from you yesterday for my growing watch collection here in Toronto. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for that!
Thank you Mark!
Always a pleasure to "watch and learn"!
I've learned more things about more things through this series. Thank you so much for taking the time to film and post them.
Thanks for watching.
Hi Mark, Love these watch and learn series, keep it up!
Yes sir!
I want that Zeppelin!
Greetings to Long Island! Mark, thanks for your tutorial, it just helped me with my Iron Annie alarm setting.
Thanks Mark this is really informative
Glad!
Two stunning watches
Love that Seiko!
Hi Marc, watch arrived here in the UK, that I ordered from you a couple of weeks ago. All good, many thanks.
Great, glad to hear it. Thank you!
Excellent video! I've never owned an analog alarm watch, but I might have to buy one now.
It's a great function.
Very good video on setting a watch. I like Marc of long Island watches. Really informative videos he puts out. Good job Marc...
Thank you, much appreciated.
Looking forward buying zeppelin. Can we use alarm dial as a second timezone? Thank you for nice video!
Just sorted out my Zeppelin. Thank you.
Zeppelin may make a beautiful watch in this video, but the one I got was a dud.
Broken out of the box, in the sense it would stop (stick) with the minute hand in the same place each time. Took it to a watch shop, their watch smith looked over it, saying it was broken and needed a part. It was between Christmas and New Years and the part took months to get. Eventually, they got it, replaced whatever, and gave it to me. It gave me about three months of problem free use and then started acting up again (but less frequently). Now 9 months later, it's about the same as it was before.
As far as I know, the watch has never been dropped. It was a gift from the wife, I baby that watch so much it's not even scratched as a daily after a year. Now the only problem with it is that I don't wear it often enough, because when I look down, I know that there's only a small chance the time will be accurate. Odds are it willve stopped and started and be anwyere from 1/2 an hour to multiple hours behind.
I know that I bought into Zeppelin's low end mechanical watchers. My watch isn't going to ever be a collectors item, but I really like the sytle that Zeppelin offers. That said, the experience has put me off of Zeppelin watches, even though I like the history of the company and truely respect their high end items.
Very informative video, thanks! How does the Seiko adjust for daylight savings?
I own that blue Seiko, it is beautiful!
For sure!
Excellent vidio.after 3 years off no alarm ive not got it working
What a beautiful Zeppelin!
Hi Mark, I have a question. On the Seiko, let's say I live in California, and have my main clock set to LAX (California) time and have my world time (2nd dial) set to TYO (Japan) time. If I set an alarm, will the alarm be based on LAX time or TYO time? Thanks for any clarification you can give me and for all the good work.
Hi Marc, I recently bought a Seiko SPC131P1 perpetual calendar. I would like to know if I could use the alarm sub-dial as world time?
Good explanining video and amazing channel. But can i write the watch models in the description in new videos ?
you saved me
Nice
So for the zeppelins ,how to set the alarm on and off?thanks
Does anyone know how the details of the alarms work? Can they be set to go off at the same time everyday without setting anything or are they one-time alarms only?
Nice job Mark, love both watches. What is the difference between the SSC489 AND 508?
Just style; similar functionality.
Hi Mark
Can you please tell me how you distinguish between AM & PM on the alarm time?
The watch do not distinguish AM of PM. As soon as the Reference Time is set, the watch "considers" you'll need her to beep in the following 12 hours. I think it's true in 99,9% of situations.
Hey guys, man do I love these vintage-looking, yellow colored watches with domed cases!
I'd really appreciate any suggestion of similar looking brands and models, in the below 500euro price range.
For now all I'm finding are Orient Bambinos, and these Zeppelin. But I'd love to know a wider variety.
Thanks in advance!
Hey Mark I love your channel and your site. I have a request however; In the future could you put filters into your website. Per example I click dress watches. I would like to be able to select case diameters i want to look for and movement type dial color hand color etc. If i go on your site to find a 34-38mm mechanical dress watch i have to sift through quite a bit to get only the results i was initially looking for. Thank you in advance regardless of whether or not its implementation would be practical. Thank you for all these great videos.
If you search for any item with the search box, filtering will appear on the left hand side.
Thanks Mark!
Why am I here, I don't even own a watch... but now I want one...
Perfect! Just what I had planned.
Join us.
Get a seiko, highly recommend as a first
I call chronographs "functional Jewelery". This is a great place to learn and see some nice timepieces.
😆😁😁
man, great video. congrats on 25k subs.
Thanks. Next stop, 250K
i have the same Zepplin watch. for some reason the tone from the alarm is very low, sometimes it is loud like expected but most of the time very low like unless i put the watch next to my ear otherwise i can not hear the alarm sound. I have replaced the battery but problem still persists. Do you know what could be wrong?
I have the same problem with my new one, did you manage to address it either via or without warranty service?
@@HenkSpankK no i didn't manage to get it fixed, I used the alarm on my phone instead
@@tuanphamrmit okay. I think I'll contact them directly to see whether it is due to a manufacturing fault. I will update you here in case it is not supposed to be that muted.
I used to have an analog alarm watch from the 60s which had a separate crown for the alarm function. Setting the alarm was no problem for me; I just had to remember to w-I-n-d both crowns, otherwise no alarm.
Yes, those are cool watches.
Does anyone know how to get the movements out tha ks
Hey there mark, I was wandering about something, Do you ship your watch to asia?
Thanks, Keep up the good work!
Some parts, yes.
I just bought zepplin watching your video.... I even read all the comments of yours video, and others too, related to this watch... Got so many negative reviews... Did i make a mistake buying zeppelin 1000 years....
What's the point of having a separate reference time? It seems completely redundant.
Not big on quartz watches but that seiko is cool
What is the name of watch on the left??
I just don't understand how to set alarm on chronograph...
What’s the difference between the zeppelin 8670 and 7670?
The 7670 doesn't have the full lumed dial. I think it has no lume at all
Zeppelin watches are got the WW2 pilot/ military look which is good but i find them overpriced. If i was really want to buy one i would choose the automatic movement over the quartz.
I got it yesterday, I am too stupid to set an alarm xD
E' bello, ma di un giocattolo al quarzo, che te ne fai?
Yay i'm finally first!
Congrats!
