Wow, I love that Omega. I loved it so much I went straight to ebay and saw they were going for around $3,000 and decided to stick with my £60.00 Seiko 5. Hey, maybe one day.
SEIKO are a very reputable company. From memory, SEIKO, in particular the Grand Seiko range have repeatedly defeated the over hyped Rolex range in type keeping i.e. only lose 1 - 3 seconds within 12 months.
Beginner yes, Didn't know enough about Chronographs till buying one. I also thought it was D.O.A. then noticed the inner wheel turning and the watch was keeping time. I'm learning thanks to videos like yours. Keep posting and I will keep "WATCHING"
The useful thing about the Omega is that when you are in a vehicle on a road with the kilometres marked by posts, you start the chronograph at one post and you stop it at the next post, based on the place where the chronograph has stopped (For example at nine o'clock, that would be 80 km/h) you've figured out the velocity of the vehicle.
Getting into the watch game. Love your energy and welcoming attitude. I think there are those that understand our penchant for watches and those that don’t. I love a good, bulky, heavy and beautiful masculine watch.
You and The Urban Gentry got me into watches! Recently picked up an Orient Bambino v2 because you both recommended it so much and I love how it looks and feels. Thank you for the video and all your others :)
I don’t know how a chronograph works so thank you for making this video. I’m new to wearing watches and wanted to get second one and I noticed that the watch I want have three extra places that track time and thanks to the internet im learning about it.
Great explanation. I'm also new to all of this stuff regarding watches, I just bought a digital Casio on a whim the other day because it's very cold here in Sweden right now, and it's a bit bothersome to dig out my phone just to look a the time with gloves on and all that, so just moving up my jacket arm a little to see what time it is feels much easier and faster. Then I somehow found my way to a bunch of these videos, and now I feel like collecting more of them, even if I'll probably never own a several thousand dollar one.
I always knew what a chronograph is, I just never owned one. Then I became a junkie and bought one. Of course I didn’t research how to use it so I’m wildly pressing buttons. Then the notorious HOW DO YOU RESET ALL THESE DIALS! Lol. Pretty easy once you read the instructions. Great videos! Thanks!
Everybody who have ever owned one, and learned how to use one had an "oh NOW I understand" moment. When it suddenly all starts making sense. How to start, stop, split, reset, zero in, etc. Only two buttons. I love it.
I actually got my first chrono watch this week, and I too was confused as well. I kept thinking “Why is the second hand not moving, and the subdial on the right is?” Then I got my “Ohhh” moment after watching this. Thanks!
Thank you for this simple explanation. Much appreciated. "A chronograph is a glorified stopwatch on your wrist." Precisely. That is something I can remember.
I love how the Seiko resets as well. So satisfying to see. But I learned I probably wouldn’t want that one. Because it seems to take too long to start over. If I were to use it as a stopwatch I often would be timing things in quick succession and would need it to reset quickly. Hmmm watch fan drama. 😜
So glad you done this video I haven't got a chronograph in my collection yet and I must admit it was partly because I wasn't sure of how they worked. After watching this video I've realised it really is pretty simple so now when I do eventually get some chronograph (Seiko Pogue and Omega Speedy) I will be able to time loads of random things and enjoy using all the watch has to offer.
Thank you for the advice. I thought of myself as a watch man knowing what a sapphire crystal glass is but I never knew what a chronograph watch does until now. That explains my Invicta Chronograph watch. Like your friend I had the same question.
Brilliant just got a tissot seastar in rose gold black rubber strap... same thing I thought the hand was broken but now it's working correctly after watching this .. thank so much
Hi! I'm VERY green to the watch game and happened to stumble upon this channel. Got myself an SNK805 over the weekend. Anyway, I've always wondered what s chronograph was and thanks to you, now I know. Thanks for the education!
Very informative video, keep it up. I have two questions, what if you leave the chronograph hand on the whole time without resetting it? Will it keep on running and act as a second hand or will it stop at some point?
It kind of says it itself, but anyways, if someone is wondering; the Omega Speedmaster and other more high end Chronographs jump straight back to 12 instead of doing the whole "sweeping motion". Reason behind it is so you can restart or start counting something again instantly. People who use chronographs for timing stuff often would pop a vein by not having it ready directly.
Great job explaining the Chrono to a noob like myself.. Ohhh that speedy!! Something special.. being a cinematography and photographer every millisecond is needed between aperture speeds buffering times and setting for the next shot, I believe the speedy’s SnapBack allows for the user to time the next event immediately and not wait for the watch to do a little dance that could cost you start time accuracy if needed at that particular moment.
A chronograph is like having a record player feature on a watch. Absolutely unnecessary in 2024. In 1968,, ok, I can see where this feature could be of some use; but in 2024? I like your video, I like that you mentioned that it is basically a glorified stop watch; and it is. And this puzzles me because I wonder if the great watch makers of yesterday, like Hans Wilsdorf, or Antoine Patek were alive today; would they still be making these dinosaurs? These were innovators, real visionaries, creating new ideas, new watches. Nobody uses the chronograph feature outside novelty purposes.
I have a few chronograph watches; a couple quartz movements (including a Seiko SSC017 solar chrono-diver), a Strela Russian mechanical chronograph and a couple meca-quartz movements that blend the two, therefore having the accuracy of quartz yet the smooth second hand and definitive mechanical click of the pushers. Oh, and I guess my new Fieldmaster has a digital chronograph, which is nice as well. Really, I rarely wear a watch that isn't either a diver or a chronograph and use the timing complication often. One other exception is my mechanical alarm pilot watch, which does show the benefits of a large, uncluttered dial, but also benefits from having an extra little hand for the alarm that can be used either passively as a time marker or as an alarm as intended. Kinda makes me interested in one of those Russian alarm, Flieger type B watches as I've always liked that dial, but rarely wear basic 3-hand watches.
Thanks... Just bought an Invicta Chrono. Annddddd, no, had no clue truly what it was. (Gotta love American consumerism :). I got the impression it was just a stopwatch, but this cleared it all up. Its also a tachymeter, lmao, i have to check your library for that. It seems to me to be basically the same thing. Rotate the dial to mark the start of whatever, and track how long goes by? God i loved my simple Bulova. Broken. More to fix than i payed for it. :( I appreciate the knowledge. Seems a raw deal im only paying a "like" for it
Thanks for the video. I just received my LIV watch abs it has their chronograph thing o. It and yes I thought that hand was stuck to😂🤦🏾♂️thanks for showing me how to work it.👊🏽✊🏽
Here's another honest beginner that literally found you today and I've been binging your channel. For your analytics, your gshock video brought me to you. Great content man, honest opinions and I need that.
Been curious about trying to expand from my G-Shock GA 2000. Was a little worried about not being able to understand the watch world and your videos are making it easy to digest. Looking forward to hopefully get some chronograph pieces in the future!
Newbie interested in collecting :0) you just answered my question! Wonderfully done and some time you and I may need to make an episode on my youtube channel talking shop and teaching a newbie! Excellent stuff! Got a lot to learn and its gonna take a while to train myself to not see the chronograph hand as the second hand. Lol!

Very interesting, I doubt would ever buy one. It's not a love or hate thing at all, it's more me having a use for all those dials. I will never make fun of anyone who owns one. It's what interests you and what you have a use for. I'm pretty practical when I buy a watch. About the only complications I have a use for are: GMT as I travel frequently, and date. Appreciate the knowledge brother just got an Armani exchange chronograph blue silicone strap watch and could figure out what it doesn't exactly now I know
Would it surprise you if some of the people that sell watches in your local mall at one of the boutiques or something doesn't actually know how it chronograph works? I've had someone told me that the watch was broken because he didn't understand how chronograph works and he works at the watch shop. Additionally I've also heard that some people that work at the watch shop do not understand that a battery for a quartz watch does not necessarily need to be changed because the crown has been pulled out and the watch is hacked or otherwise stopped. Thinking that the watch's battery is dead. And then charging the customer for a new battery change unnecessarily.
Never felt so much appreciated as a new viewers. Thanks for the video
Same!!
I think you are the first UA-camr I've ever found that doesn't ridicule beginners! I really appreciate that! Thumbs up. 😎👍
Wow, I love that Omega. I loved it so much I went straight to ebay and saw they were going for around $3,000 and decided to stick with my £60.00 Seiko 5. Hey, maybe one day.
Many have done the same. Nobody needs to spend $3000 on a watch.
Kuldip Singh Exactly- unless you’re swimming in money, there’s more immediate priorities to take care of in life.
@@mapledoodle5516 you said it !
SEIKO are a very reputable company.

I bet the Seiko keeps as good if not better time. That’s the main function of a watch, no?
Thanks for clearing that up. I buy nothing but chronographs cuz I just like the way the look. Never knew what they actually did lol
Same brother.
Same here! Loved the way it looked! Bought another watch that displayed the same look but was not functional and this was puzzling :-D
True true, I like the added visual interest.
Lmao, a bunch of man children in here.
Lol

I bought a 1963 seagull after you and another UA-cam recommended it not knowing what a chronograph lol, now it’s even more exciting when it comes in
Bought my first chrono and thought my second hand was broken and was about to go return haha thx for saving me a trip from not lookin stupid 👍
This was such a warm welcome, I feel so happy! Thank you so much you make me twice as enthusiastic to be a new watch-lover!!!
Thanks for stopping by the channel, Patricia! Welcome to the watch world!

Seriously thank you! I was freaking out when my seconds hand wasn't working.

Thanks for the information. Originally, with all of the dials I thought it was some kind of specialized watch, but this video clarified it for me.
I didn't know what a chronograph was. I do now. Simple and straightforward video. Just the way I like it.
So glad you done this video I haven't got a chronograph in my collection yet and I must admit it was partly because I wasn't sure of how they worked. Thank you for the advice. I thought of myself as a watch man knowing what a sapphire crystal glass is but I never knew what a chronograph watch does until now. That explains my Invicta Chronograph watch. Like your friend I had the same question.
I like Invicta watches. Had the same issue not knowing what the chronograph was.
I also like INVICTA watches that's how I learned about Automatic watches after buying one
Chronos are my favorite complication to own. Right up until I have to service it.
Brilliant just got a tissot seastar in rose gold black rubber strap... same thing I thought the hand was broken but now it's working correctly after watching this .. thank so much
Thank you for this useful information. I was actually just like that sub and thought my watch was broken. Appreciate it.
Bro, that was awesome....no one has explained it so well.... really really appreciate it
I'm new to watches and actually didn't know how chronograph worked.. Thank you sir
You’re welcome!
I bought my first chrono last year. The timex expedition scout chronograph, and I absolutely love it.

love the way you explain things, finally I understood what is Chronograph 😂
The Vostok Amphibia is the best chronograph for both beginners and seasoned watch enthusiasts alike.
The amphibia isnt a chronograph!

You made this video 4yrs ago and guess what you were right. He wasn’t the only one that didn’t know but thanks to your video now I know.
Thank you for this video. My citizen has the sweeping motion. It is very satisfying!
Tnx for the explenations i just got my second watch a seiko chronograph and the video was very informative for me tnks again
I knew what a chronograph was, but still learned some things from this video. Also, the Navitimer bracelet looks like the most comfortable thing ever.
me, who doesn't have chronograph, even don't have the money to buy one right now, still watching 😅😅, the passion is real

I felt the same. Thought there was sth wrong w my watch. Now I know my watch is just fine--even perfect. Lol
I love that Seiko! This would be very useful for a locomotive engineer for performing brake tests and checking your locomotive speedometer’s accuracy.
Haven’t worn a watch in decades.. but just ordered a Waldor Sardinia Chronograph.. hopefully a good choice?

Still your video is helping me after years 🎉❤❤
You should do a series following the chronograph video.
Like gmt, yatch, pilots, divers wacht and how they work.
I second that suggestion. Like Minute Repeater, Double Dome etc.
Just recently wanted to start collecting watches. Had no idea what a chronograph was now I’m just amazed. Thank you so much. It will be a while before I can afford to get one but none the less Subscribed.
Thanks for this video. Just bought a Bulova lunar pilot and thought that it was busted because the second hand wasn’t moving. Now it all makes sense.
A little late but this is the exact video I was looking for. Nice.
Good video and very informative BUT I still need help. So I have a chronograph watch (I got it off Amazon for like $40). So now I understand how to use a chronograph BUT when I reset my chronograph, the little chronograph hands in the smaller circles both reset to 55 seconds instead of at the 12 o’clock position. I have a second counter and minute counter and like I said, they both reset to 55 instead of noon position. Does anyone know why or how to fix it??? Is it broke?
I have a "Breitling Navitimer", too. A friend gave it to me. He bought it on a beach in Thailand for about 50$ and it has a really cheap quartz movement. But it keeps time better than some of my expensive watches. 😄
That said, yes, I hate chronographs.
Cool beans, like you said there are more people than one that have no idea like me. Ordered my first automatic this week, went with a Seiko SNK807. Wanted a Hamilton but haven't got a pay check since Feb (sigh) and that was too much. Have a really unique Apple watch from the 1990's, I guess experts would call it a decorator watch. awesome video im starting to shop for my first chrono soon
Man, I’m so caught up on your videos I’m watching old ones again.
I absolutely LOVE to hear that! I hope the info is helping!! 🙏🙏
Great videos. My Pagani Daytona look alike has a 24 hour sub-dial.
What is that for and can I adjust it somehow?
Thanks!
I've always liked the look of them but never really knew how they worked. I just know I want one in my collection so I figured it was time to find out what they do. Thanks for helping me out!
Hey, i was going through the best deals in the lower end of swiss watches and i seemed to like the swatch trapped series by looks, can you please tell me a little bit about the quality and mechanism of these watches, and suggest something better if possible because tissot seemed to be nice too. Thanks.
That’s just cleared something up for me 😂 thanks man
This is something ive always wondered, is there a connection between the slide rules on watches like the Navitimer and Seiko flightmaster and the chrono function?
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the slide rule is the result of pilots wanting a chronograph and a sort of calculator for the functions they'd need. The slide rule can calculate conversions, for example mph to kph, and things that a pilot would need like fuel consumption. I don't think the chronograph is meant to work with the bezel, but they both have functions that'd be useful in a pilot watch.
Hi Jory, many thanks for this video! I have never owned a chronograph and I was too embarrassed to ask how they work. So I kind of just got stuck with pride and wallowed in my ignorance! A thousand M&M-pizza-brownie-sponge-cakes should be sacrificed at your altar! Thanks again!
Great instructional video Jory...I love that you are helping people new to our hobby. Thank you for another fantastic video :)
Always great too ask questions if you are unsure and really great that you took the time to make this video for those seeking information. Good on you Jory
New to the hobby so this video was VERY INFORMATIVE!!!!! Thank you Jory. You always teach me something and make it fun!
You’re very welcome, Jeff!
Yes! I didn't know, this video was actually useful, thanks
Great video, thanks for the tips!
thanks bro Yess he isnt the only one i wanted to know what a chronograph is too , And its a stop watch lol
Another great and informative video. You made it easy for any beginner to understand, well done sir! I love Chronographs, I have about 5. My favourite is my Speedy.
I appreciate it! Thank you!!!
Short answer: Lots of noise on the dial and a feature 99% of us will never use, but damn some of them look good tho.
Exactly

You solve a life mystery of mine lol
my swatch chronograph uses a subdial to even display 10ths of a second when you stop timing. double sweep, pretty satisfying.
I'm the same with my new sleedmaster 🙂
This was really helpful, thanks. Do you think I can jog with it?🙂
Thanks for that Jory, this also helps us watch guys explain things to our wives…Hoy!
Subscribed after watching 1 min and 30 seconds!
Just saw this comment. You ROCK, Frederick! Great use of your chronograph!! 😂👍
Appreciate the knowledge brother just got an Armani exchange chronograph blue silicone strap watch and could figure out what it doesn't exactly now I know
I honestly didn't know that. Good video!
Chronograph will never use but looks cool gotcha
Nice episode Jory! Exclusive content as always 8)
