Hanafuda is a Japanese playing card. This naming motif matches the beast pirates who are named after cards and games. Interesting thing to note was that despite all the Dino fruits in wano, there was no TRex…but TRex is Latin for tyrant king lizard which is basically his nickname. I think that implies that he has/had the T. rex fruit. Also him collecting ancient zoans is important because more than likely he was Kaido’s original devil fruit dealer and that’s why all of his high ranking officers have ancient zoans. That connection is probably what led Ace to wano. Ace defeated Hanafuda and then wanted to beat his boss aka Kaido which led to him raiding onigashima while Kaido wasn’t around. Also Ace defeating him is likely what led to Doflamingo replacing him as the DF dealer to Kaido.

My theory is that Hanafuda will show up again as part of Blackbeard's grand fleet with the T-Rex zoan. He'll have a grudge against Luffy for being Ace's brother, and Luffy will have no idea who he is before 1taping him in a single panel.
Or he gets scaled up to strong enough to protect the last poneglaph, and is the man marked by flames who’s always sailing around so he doesn’t get robbed by the yonko.

@@KingJinzo2125 that’s not true and being frozen by kuzan ice wouldn’t give people burn scar. Kuzan during his talk with BB crew said he never seen a red poneglaph on orhara so for that theory to be true Saul has to be on the sea with a black ship creating whirlpool. A few chapters ago during vega punk speech we see Saul in a forest chilling while he listens, so base off the canon evidence he’s not on a black ship creating whirlpools with the last red stone.
For me it is the opposite, Swordsmanship is getting way too much gas compare to other paths to power outside of Devil Fruit and Haki, we don't even have an equivalent ranking system for martial arts even though it is in fact the most used system by far (Just within the Strawhats we have Luffy, Sanji, Robin, Jimbe, and maybe Chopper at least in Kungfu Point), other weapon systems don't even have classifications (Whitebeard, Kaido, etc), so Swordsmanship getting this much love even though the MC himself uses martial arts is more than enough in my eyes, especially considering that Fujitora himself (the man in question) is bound to be a very important character in the final war with definitive time to shine.

Yea the only really “classification” I can think of for martial arts in the story is fishman karate and isn’t that what Robin learned over the time skip from Koala? And Sabo also had that Dragon claw attack which I guess is also technically a martial art but that’s more just the name of an attack and not a martial arts style so yea I see where your coming from but One piece has just never really been a real in depth martial arts style action manga like it’s mostly just punching and kicking and every once in a while the anime will give us some good choreography but yea it definitely wouldn’t hurt to have some more in depth information on the specific martial arts but I’ve just never really expected it from one piece cause I’ve never gotten that type of vibe from the show.

@@Error2pt0 Nah, Zoro is great, because he couldn't care less about sword grades, Mihawk himself told Zoro that given enough Haki and sword can become Blackblades, I would not be surprised if EOS Zoro would just pick up a random stick on the ground and still be a monster, just like how Luffy turned his sandals into Legendary Weapons.

5:28 unfortunately thats always been the case. People hype the swordsmanship in OP but its def just thrown in. Theres no real focus on actual swordsmanship just a random new named swing and blade every once in a while
- Honestly, I think it's really interesting that you have to have been to that place to send people there with the Paw-Paw fruit. I always took Kuma visiting the places he sent the Straw Hats as Oda establishing that because Kuma had been there before, he knew where to send everyone. Frankly, I prefer the latter.
- I'm so happy we finally got an explanation as to how CP9 ended up as CP0.
- I know Issho is an admiral so he was already insanely powerful but having one of the Supreme Grade blades really recontextualizes how powerful he is. It also makes me think the theory that it's the sword with the gravity fruit and not Issho is false.
- I really like the theory that's popped up now that this Hanafuda guy gave Kaido all of the Zoans for the Tobi Roppo and the Headliners. And bring me pictures of S-Lizard!
- Oda calling out the media illiteracy is amazing!
- I like that we finally know the Empress in between Shakky and Boa. Still don't think she's Luffy's bio mom. That just feels so bland. It's better than Croco-Mom but not by much. I'd much rather Luffy's bio mom be a nobody.

Mainly because his name is a the name of a Japanese card game, and the fact that the siblings got ancient zoans from an unknown father that was in good standing with kaido. The father of Ulti and Page 1 died which was the reason why Kaido adopted them when they were kids. Hanafuda was active like 4-5 years ago before Kuma joined the warlords

To be fair people brought a counterpoint to back the theory up. In the SBS it states that Kaido took them in but never at what age or if they were even kids. Possible he took them in as teens. I didn’t really go further into so idk if there’s something to disprove it being plausible.

So the shiki thing is basically: You can add strong world to canon if you want as it wont make a difference. The Shiki in strong world is the same as the shiki in canon (which i think he confirmed in a previous sbs). And he regrets giving Shiki a float float fruit, but will make due with it being around.

One thing I have'nt seen anyone talk about is Hanafuda's devil fruit. We know he was gathering Ancient Zoan type fruits so its not so strange that he could have eaten one himself and judging by his epiphet the "The King of Lizards" I think he had the Ryu Ryu no mi Model: Tyrannosaurus.

It’s really interesting how the best blade made in Wano is the one that Fujitora has. Even Enma, Wado or Shusui (before it became a black blade) were not comparable to the rank of Yakuza Kasen. Fujitora might be one of the descendants of the 15 that left Wano according to the Zoro SBS
That is a great point to bring up, the shodai kitetsu however is also wano made and a supreme grade.

Hanafuda is a Japanese card game. There is a card combination where you combine the Boar, Deer, and Butterfly called Ino (for inoshishi = boar), Shika (meaning dear), and Cho (for chocho = butterfly). Kishimoto used this in Naruto for the trio Ino-Shika-Cho; again, also in Naruto, each of these three clans is associated with Boar, Deer, and Butterfly. Since Deers in Japan are considered messengers of god, and boars mountain gods (I am not quite sure about the butterflies), my theory is that in reality, Hanafuda was specifically searching for these three devil fruits, which maybe together can do some unique shit or whatever...

The reason that swordsmanship and Zoro stuff is revealed in a SBS constantly is because it is only hype for fans. Just like Zoro fan service. Hype for people who dont enjoy the intricacies of storytelling. All famous writers do it.

Something tells me oda not thinking about the grade of fujitora’s sword back in dressrosa since it doesn’t really matter. Everything involving has never really been all that explored. It’s really only important to like 3 characters in the entire verse and one of them is dead.
I think Hanafuda could be a fighter in the Cross Guild or under the protection of Shanks at Elbaf or was one of Wang Zhi's commanders at Elbaf and we could see him in a flashback of the Rocky Port incident.
I agree swordsmanship needs more attention, I wish it got more during wano where a lot of the sword masters and master sword smiths are at
Now that I think about it, we don't really know anyone besides Zoro chasing the World's Strongest Swordsman title (at least from what I can remember)
Ace was actually very skillful with his devil fruit, and he was physically strong, ace lost at a time when the finer details of haki was not prevalent, for instance armament haki coating , conqueror haki.
We saw the surprise of the admirals when luffy used it in marineford war. But we didnt know its potential quite until wano. Ace also didnt reach his full potential because he had conqueror haki and was never trained on how to use it.
Maybe if he used it on whitebeard, whitebeard would have taught him how to use it.
As much as people downplay ace he is still stronger than queen and smoothie as a second commander.
Its great to learn about fujitora blade. It would be interesting to see who faces fujitora eventually. Comsidering he is not a bad guy , and he may not follow instructions like kizaru that goes against his principles.
If Hanafuda had a Devil Fruit, I can definitely see a Zoan Type. Here are the ones I could see for him; for Ancient Zoan: The Dragon Dragon Fruit Model: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Mythical Zoan: The Fish Fish Fruit Mode: Western Dragon, and Regular Zoan: The Lizard Lizard Fruit Model: Komodo Dragon.

I think Fujitora and the Zoro thing is so lackluster is because they don't really see each other as enemies. In fact i wouldn't find it weird one bit if they worked together in the end. That'd the energy I get anyways.

just bought the new volume and its probably got some of the best chapters. got the gorosei full spread and the luffy double fisting kizaru and saturn panel
so brago i was just watching episode 975 and im not sure if its jus an anime thing or if it was stated in the manga but oden told toki to jump 20 years into the future since thats basically the reason she came. now in my interpretation thats means she probably saw joyboys defeat. my reasoning is that if joyboy hadnt lost or if defeat didnt seem like a possibility then she wudnt need to have come to the future in the first place right? also the war wasnt probably 100 years toki is 36 when she met oden and she said she had come from the past and stuff, maybe the wars started 900 years ago but ended 74 years later hence her coming, meeting oden, and him suggesting that she go complete her mission but she ended up changing her mission and staying by odens side instead.
Personally I am not too sure as if the Straw Hats come across an Admiral the same thing that has always happened before could keep happening. They get away not because they beat them but because the Admiral allows them to do so (directly or indirectly).
Fuji definitely moved up on my tier list. He’s the strongest current admiral

I don't think every admiral will just get packed up like Kizaru did. Plus I really don't think Kizaru is fully in the fight at Egghead. I believe swordsmanship will make a comeback. I want to see that warlord in action. And I'm like you Brago I wanna see the whole lineup of past and present members affiliated with the world government. It's just cool thoughts. Could even make movies about them.
Hear me out: Hanafuda is Ulti and Page 1 dad. Ace offed him. And Kaido ended up taking care of them because he was friends with their dad, and ulti and page 1 overheard they DF belonged to their dad. and thats part of what made them eat them.

I have to assume that by “ancient zoans” he means ones that have been known about the longest, which are likely the mythicals. I don’t think it’d make sense for oda to introduce a guy who’s hunting down the actual ancient class zoans when we know where all the ancient class zoans are and have already explored that concept

Something you said gave me a wonderful horrible idea… theoretically an object with a devil fruit would have that fruit effect neutralized in water…. What if someone like Don Krieg equipped every one of his weapons and armor pieces with devil fruits, using his strength instead to carry the dead weight of all the devil fruit armory he would be weighed with if he hits water. HE can still swim xD
I agree with the your opinion that Oda kinda mishandled the reveal of fujitora’s blade. We know that Zoro can instinctively tell the quality of a sword so for him to not be able to recognize one the 12 supreme grade blades is unusual. I do think that fujitora is deserving of such a weapon considering he’s an admiral and wields one of the fundamental forces of the universe. We know that the stronger your abilities are, the better quality weapon you need. That’s why whitebeard needed a supreme blade in order to handle his strength and df.
At this rate, ODA gonna drop what the one piece is in an SBS.

Fujitoras sword being supreme grade is actually a really cool reference to the character he's based on, Zatoichi. In the 15th film, Zatoichis cane sword, Ichi learns his blade will snap after one more kill so he gifts it to the swordsmith who made it. The swordsmith was secretly commisioned by a corrupt official to create the ultimate sword, only for the official to X the smith and steal his blade. But it turns out the smith switched his masterpiece with the faulty blade gifted to him by Ichi, leaving Ichi to with the strongest sword in Japan.
I think Hanafuda is just joke by Oda. "Ace couldn't defeat the real Kado, but hey! He beat the closest thing to him!"

Thanks to the SBS, we are at least we are 1 step closer to determine whether or not Toritoma is Luffy's mother! Now I wonder if:

Why i think Tritoma is Luffy's mom is
If im remembering right boa became the empress when 18 years old so its 13 years ago and she was inslaved exactly when luffy was born so that's why she doesn't remember him and we see luffy the youngest we know him as a 7 year old kid and he 19 now so if luffy was with his mom until he was 6 and she still was the empress she was alive and then died so dragon took him to his hometown or Garp did idk, and we have kuma for some reason sent Luffy to Amazon Lily and kuma knows dragon very well he for sure knew Luffy's mom.
So the timeline makes sense and kuma actions too and we have the theory of Nefertari D. Lily might have started the Amazon lily in the first place after the flood and was stuck there in the calm belt and her name also is of a flower.
We know lily has a connection with joy boy
And if she has a connection to Amazon lily and it might have been a failed love story.
If that's true luffy is related to joy boy and lily and he is the son of their lineage.

@deananderson7714 true, maybe he was collecting but not using them. Either way it would be super cool to learn about the interactions between him and kaido.
On another note I don’t think being a swordsman is very popular choice in the one piece world because of Haki. The Navy is a great example of this where just about every basic navy member has a sword and are trash, but the big Dogs all have Haki. That or they have a sword as an accessory or to expand their abilities. So I feel like if you’re a swordsman in One Piece you are an anomaly because there aren’t a lot of TRUE swordsmen in One Piece in a world wide perspective.
I just think the blade thing doesn't matter. Like look at it from a casual perspective. If every time we meet a powerful swordsman, Zoro does a reaction about the sword's grade and say "This guy is strong!", it would just feel like these people are only strong because they got fancy swords. Not the opposite. It would only downplay the strength of all these characters.
Besides, Zoro has only ever been able to sense Kitetsu swords (for some reason). I don't know where this idea that he can sense or recognize any blade comes from.
I wonder if kaido got the ancient zoan fruits his crew used from the lizard king?

And what do you mean much more of a swordsman? For WB I kinda get it since his weapon isn't really a sword and he mainly uses his DF power through it, but why the hell wouldn't Roger be a swordsman? It is clearly his primary weapon that he fights with. I am not saying Mihawk is stronger than Roger, but this is such a tired argument. Even Law who mainly uses his sword to channel his Devil Fruit is considered a swordsman. Roger is even drawn on a cover art of swordsmen alongside Zoro, Shanks, Oden, Mihawk. I do agree that there is probably more to making a black blade than just power or maybe not we don't know. But still the fact that he is the only person to achieve a black blade in hundreds of years since Ryuma who is basically a mythical figure holds huge narrative meaning.
Mihael is stronger than Roger. Zoro's dream is to become the greatest swordsman EVER, as he said that to Kuina. He will have to defeat the greatest of all time, and that's Mihawk, meaning that he has to be stronger than Roger since Roger is a swordsman

Personally I never really was into the swords. I understand others are invested into them, but for me personally it's more of a bonus thing. Honestly, as far as weapons go, I like Whitebeards naginata the best. I think it's mostly because swords exist in a lot more types of fiction, than unique stuff like Devil Fruits, Haki, and many other things that are in One Piece.

Let’s be real, most logias could have defeated most non-logia warlords in their first fight. Ace defeating a pre-timeskip warlord with his devil fruit power should be expected, it’s not really something worth giving credit to. The difference between non-logias and logias pre-timeskip is like the difference between having devil fruit powers and not having them.

Just going to point out that becoming a black-blade increases a swords rank, yet a number of these 12 Supreme blades have not yet achieved this.
In fact, Yoru is stated to be the strongest black-blade, implying that it may be the only one among the Supreme Grade blades. That Mihawk himself elevated Yoru into the only Supreme Grade black-blade in history is a mark of his status as the strongest swordsman.
Thus also means that there is an undiscovered rank beyond Supreme Grade, potentially never achieved in history. If Zoro gets Kitetsu I somehow and manged to forge it into a black-blade, it would likely be an achievement never before reached and cement Zoro as the undisputed greatest swordsman.

Hanafuda looks like he was a PROBLEM, and I agree swords and swordsmen being treated like little tid bit moments bother me. However after Wano I stopped projecting my own expectations on the story and simply became an observer. Much better experience coming into the story on moments I personally find interesting.
