I guessing you dont realize how far of hike it is to that lake. I would love a float tube at that lake if I could get someone to fly it in with a helicopter haha
Great video again, every trip is an adventure! You’re. A hiking machine. Each of my trips I swear to myself I’ll shave ounces. Finally dumped the pump and tried sawyer straw (2oz) for some years now. Also got a ULA pack (Logan UT biz). I’m in the 20-22lb pack range w two rods. Makes my 40+ mile trips doable for my 40+ yr joints!
@@mikenelson3338 Yep! Admittedly it cost some money for some ultra light gear. A recent trip was 5 days fishing the top of Uinta river basin and started at 22lbs. Big Agnes tent, ULA pack, Enlightened Equipment quilt, Thermarest pad.
That's talented casting to be able to snag your wrapper with the wind taking it out. By the way thanks for letting my son take your wheeler hunting. Sorry for all the blood on it from his 4 point buck.
Two questions. 1. why don't you eat some of trout you caught? You could make good catchNcook videos. 2. Is this Big Sky area? (or where would it be... Oh and thanks for NOT ADDING MUSIC to your amazing fishing videos.
@@manuelarellano622 Well, that was a brook trout. But I bet if you contacted the Montana fish and game they would be able to let you know where you can find lake trout.
It's more or less the popcorn beetle set up they use on Pyramid lake. I use 25ft fast sink tip line with a weighted leech or minnow pattern on the bottom----in this case a leech. Three ft up from the leech I used a six inch tag tied to the floating scud. After letting it sink I do long fast strips with a 2 second pause between strips. During the pause the scud floats up. You often get takes during the pause
@@caseysayre4250 I actually go mega cheap when it comes to leaders. I buy cheap 3x or 2x off brand leaders on amazon. Then I just clip off the end and add either Fireline or some flourocarbon as tippet. You can find a pack of six for around $8. I use a 3x leader 90% percent of the time. If i'm using tiny patterns I just use 4 lb test fireline as tippet. It's roughly the same diameter as 1 lb test mono
Jeeze i hope you carry a sidearm in Montana, Grizzlies are a whole different beast than our local black bears 😱 Other than that, as always. Awesome video, great fish!
What a great lake. I wonder if I could offer two words of advice? Float Tube.

Love your vids!
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Nice job! Those were some chunky fish for sure.
A few were eating more than their fair share
Sight fishing in those alpine lakes looks amazing! Love it!
Oh yeah, sight fishing is the best 👍

22 lbs?? Geez well done. My day packs usually end up weighing that much haha
20-22 lbs for a full hike? Dang!

Love MT... gonna move there some day. Nice fishin' dudes.
Oh yeah, Montana is awesome..
Nice size brook trout ! The other big ones that got away will keep you coming back ..
They do entice one to return

Thats always an acceptable reason for having blood on my wheeler 8)
I, too, was impressed by the talented casting.

I've only filmed it once as far cooking fish goes. Next year I'll be sure to add that in more frequently
beartooth?
Yes sir
please tell me where 🥲🥲 i’ve only caught lake trout at twin

@@TroutHowler that’s the thing all i’ve been finding is lakers, nice fish still but man these huge brooks.. i need to catch these beauties
@@TroutHowler how do you get to the lake?
what kind of rod and fly line are using when you were fishing the leach and the scud? Great video~!
Thanks, I was using a 9ft 5wt Scott Radian with Scientific Anglers Sonar sink 25 cold fly line
Was the floating mega scud/black and red leech a dry dropper rig? Or two nymph rig?

TroutHowler what does your typical leader look like?

TroutHowler thanks for sharing your info. How long do you make them? 10 foot?
@@caseysayre4250 It all depends on the water and what type of line I'm using. 7 to 15 feet but 9 most of time

Yes sir, a 10 mm loaded with Underwood ammo extreme penetrators. I purchased my pistol specifically for backpacking in Wyoming and Montana
@@TroutHowler phew! Good to know! Grizzlies are what prevent me from entering the backcountry in that MT/ID/WY region lol.
I also wondered how you stow your net for use while fishing. Is on your backpack somewhere? Do you tether it? Use a holster?
I use a magnet connector that I hang from carabiner. I hook it to either a backpack or my camera harness. The net handle hangs about waist level
@ 7:00 the brook trout’s mouth is like 20% of it’s body length 😳
It certainly had a big mouth
Trouthowler-
What’s your 1 river that you would fish if you could only fish 1 the rest of your life?
That's a good question. There are several good streams where I live. I'll have to think about it
Fishing Montana is cheating.
I would like to cheat more often
How so?
@@mikenelson3338 Less people more big trout

it’s not rlly like that that’s more like alaska
Do you have an email or Instagram/Facebook I could contact you through!? I just have a few questions about your gear and flies.

Not too much. They have a thin rubber like coating on the palms
